Hi guys! I've decided to start collecting WHFB with three other friends, I have chosen to collect Lizardmen. We decided that our first goal will be to build a 1000point army each and battle with them. I've been experimenting on my own with different armylists, and in the end I came up with this one. No experienced player has yet checked it out or given me any feedback, so be gentle hehe . Here it is: Lizardmen 1000p armylist for the purpose of casual play as follows: Heroes: 250p Saurus Scar-Veteran Light Armour Enchanted Shield Obsidian Trinket Total 110p Skink Priest Level 2 Dispel Scroll Talisman of Protection Total 140p Core:540p Saurus Warrior x19 Spears Full Command Total 258p Skink x16 Full Command Additional Kroxigor x2 Total 212p Skink Skirmisher x10 Special: 60p Terradon Rider x2 Rare: 150p Salamander Hunting Pack x2 Army total: 1000p Any constructive criticism is much appreciated. The idea is to let the Scar-Veteran join the Saurus unit, thus giving the whole unit a magic resistance(1) with the Obsidian Trinket. I thought this could be useful since I'm up against Dark Eleves, Skaven and Greenskins, and from what I've understood they all use a good amount of magic. The Skink Priest is to join the Skrox unit and follow them to the front line, while casting augment and hex spells to aid my troops in combat. Skirmishers will do the hunting/harassing, as will the Salamanders, and the Terradons will go for the long shots, like war machines or lone characters. What are your thoughts?
For salamanders, doesn't matter what was meant, there is no rule where that's correct. If you mean terradons, though, he's right. Minimum of 3 per unit. Spears is probably not a great idea on your saurus with only 19 models, IMO. You'll lose those extra attacks pretty quickly. I'm not a big fan of champions in general, and can be more points than they're worth at only 1000 pts. For your skrox unit, 16 is a small meat shield. I like to take 20+ skinks for 2 krox, to have the extra protection. Take all that with a grain of salt, though. I've played terribly the last several games, and am definitely starting to think my tactics are flawed.
Purely for experimentation, taking both a wizard and a scar-vet makes sense, but I'm not convinced you will find both effective. Basically you don't have enough points to properly equip both, especially if you want that scroll. If you drop the scroll and take the priest with nothing, you can make a good scar-vet. Enchanted Shield is okay, but I would absolutely combine it with Dawnstone. Then you spend the rest of his points on either Sword of Might or Burning Blade. Obsidian Trinket is really not worth buying. Damage spells are not that common and a 6+ save won't make a clear difference anyway. Talisman of Protection is never worth buying. As above, I think you might be happier dropping the scroll for scar-vet equipment. Generally I don't think that is enough numbers to justify spears. They will often be missing out on spear attacks in the FIRST round. I agree that 16/2 SKrox is not enough skinks, but "not enough" is true of everything at this points level, so I'm not sure that is a priority fix. Not legal - min size is 3.
Oh how could I have missed that, min size is 3 terradons. Well that's embarrassing . Considering the Hero problem, I want to keep them both, but I guess I'll have to undress my priest. And about the terradons, I think I'll just drop them. What about making it look like this instead: Saurus Scar-Veteran Light Armour Sword of Might (considering that I already know that the Greenskin player is gonna field netters, so I want to make up for the strength loss) Enchanted Shield Dawnstone Skink Priest Plaque of Tepok And then as said removing the Terradons, buffing up the Skrox unit 24 skinks and 2 kroxigors. Also bringing 2 extra handlers for my salamanders. According to my calculations I'm at 960 points now, and the Saurus Warriors are left as they are for now. I could either add some extra warriors, or I could remove some of them to make room for another 10 skink skirmishers to compensate for the terradons. Is this progressing in the right direction? As for now I don't have any special choice, but I guess when you're playing with low point armies you have to make sacrifices to gain advantages elsewhere.
Lizardmen special choices are not that awesome, so skipping them is not a problem. Different books have different strengths - if you skip High Elf specials, your army probably stinks. I would absolutely increase the Saurus slightly.
We have to buy both the Sword of Might and the Enchanted Shield at the points cost listed in our book, not the BRB. The sword doesn't really make a difference, but the shield puts you over your 50 point cap on magic items. Swap that puppy out for the Charmed Shield.
Thanks for all the advice! I'm tweaking and experimenting with some points to make the most of them, but since me and my friends are new to this game, I will not try to make it too competative, more like holding it on a casual level. But that doesn't mean I don't want to win hehe. All your advice are taken to consideration, and I'm working on making the best of it!
