    Hi guys,
not long ago I started playing my lizardmen army. My first army in the recent edition of whfb. So I have played 3 games with the list below, one against empire (win), one against beastmen (win) and one against skaven (loss).

The game against the skaven was yesterday and I was without any chance, I didn't do any leadership test successfully and had to watch nearly my whole army run after being shot down by these filthy vermin.

    So here is the list

Scarvet - w/ shield, burning blade of chotec and dragon helmet
skink priest - lvl 2, dispel scroll
22 Saurus warriors - w/ musician and standard bearer
    12 skink skirmishers - w/ blow pipes
    12 skink skirmishers - w/ blow pipes
    6 chameleon skinks - w/ blow pipes
    1 salamander - w/ extra snack
    1 salamander - w/ extra snack
    3 terradon riders

Given that my last game was so clear without any chance I thought to ask you guys about this list, what to do think, any suggestions? I was actually thinking about leaving the terradons out , but dont know what to use instead!? Also what about a block of skinks?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Best,G

If you can't spare the points out of your troops then I'd consider upgrading your Scar-Vet to an Oldblood. Either way, use up as much of your 25% for Lords as you can. You have 250pts, and that can give you a pretty good Oldblood.
I'd consider dropping the Dragon Helm as, in my opinion, it's not very often you come across flaming attacks outside of magic (lore of fire), and you'd want to be getting into combat with your saurus as soon as possible which keeps him out of trouble (can't be targeted by direct damage or magic missile magic). Burning Blade is a good choice, especially if you're planning on keeping him out of challenges and using him as armour-crushing crowd control.

That's just my opinion, and I'm by no stretch of the imagination an expert.

    Good luck!

P.S. Maiming Shield may be good if you're after more attacks for that crowd controlling!

Your list looks good to me. You have plenty of shooting to take on Skaven, especially with 2 Salamanders. Sounds like you just had a stint of bad luck, which undoubtedly happens to everyone once in a while. I'd only want to add light armor to my Scar-Vet and put a champion in my Saurus. Drop a few Skinks from one of the skirmisher units and BOOM. Gravy.

But I do agree that you should field an Oldblood, like NexS suggested. Since he has access to 100 pts of magic items, you can beef him up very nicely. The Crown of Command would be a great addition to your army. It may also be wise to invest in a Scar-Vet BSB to help your Saurus block with those leadership tests, if you go that route. Standard + BSB in the same unit = instant +2 combat resolution. Make the BSB carry the Warbanner for +3. Not too shabby. Oh, and they're stubborn. :bored:

I may have missed something, but why are they stubborn?

Ahhh.. I should have checked... I'm so lazy.

That's also why I love Gor-Rok, that and working by percentages, he can win most challenges... Until some mongrel gets lucky rolls, then lucky re-rolls!! Grrrr

    Hi guys,

first off, THANKS A LOT for the replies! Very helpful..

I have a light Armour on my vet just forgot to place it in the list above :)

Maybe I am stupid but what is meant by that controlling the crowd ? (@ NexS)

Acutally I never thought about an Oldblood, isnt he overpriced for 1k battles?

So dropping the terradons for an oldblood?

Thanks in advance and looking forward for your comments!

Crowd control is using the 5 awesome attacks against troops in a unit rather than against another hero/lord. They're easier to kill, have less armour and build up combat res points quickly and easily.

Oldblood is about 145 points base (I THINK, from memory), so 250 points should be enough to kit him out pretty well!

    Ok thx I got it.

So if I leave the terradons at home and reduce the skirmisher units to 10 skinks each, I can take a champion for my saurus warriors and field an oldlood with the burning blade, a light armour, (now sorry I dont know the english names for the artefacts) the magic shield (? +2 armour save), crown and the lucky charm (or so, reroll one armour save once for less than 10 points).

In total 999. What do you say?

I like it. Just make sure you are using the cost of the Enchanted Shield (+2 to armor save) in the LM Army book, not the one in the BRB.

As I said before though, your first list looked pretty good. Really just bad rolling seemed to be the culprit.

enchanted shield that was the name! Yes thanks I took into account the army book price.

I agree I had real bad luck last time. Only my chameleon skinks did well by reducing that warp canon to 1 wound but failed to kill it in the end. Terradons died without any impact and so did salamanders... best thing was that my skink priest did the chain lightning that actually killed a lot in 4 different units :) apart from this, my army failed :)

What do you think about skink units, I mean regular skinks to support the saurus block? I dont like the idea too much but my opponents tried to convince I should (have to say they play each army the same style... boring, maxed list with 0 painted models, not that funny :) )

I like the idea of Skinks with Kroxigors. The idea is cool, but I'd rather have mavouvrable skirmishers to take out high toughness things/war machines.
I always take at least 30 Saurus with Spears and make up the rest with skirmishers.

    OK guys,

thanks a lot for your help so far. on thursday I probably have some time to try out the changes I made. The possible enemies are Beastmen, Skaven (*spit*), Ogres and Dark Elves (*double spit*).

I have one question though, I noticed that I had some problems the last time to deploy my skink priest. I was afraid of letting him run around solo because of the warp canon and the 2 skaven magicians. So I put him in the saurus block with the plan to release him later before I go to cc. Despite the fact that I never came to cc, I didn't like that move.

Should I run him solo or in with the skirmishers?

There are issues with doing it either way... Skirmishers are more likely to run in all circumstances (panic and break). However, you'll get a 2+ look out sir if the priest is in a unit. Keeping him out of the skirmisher unit will only give him a 4+ look out sir.

Come to think of it, a skrox unit would be perfect for a skink priest on foot....

Don't forget the skink priest can always just leave the unit...

I thought your initial list was great. I would think about maybe leaving either the chamo skinks or terradons at home, and adding more saurus instead, but keeping them both is fine. I would definitely drop both skirmishers down to 10.

Gotta disagree with adding an old blood to this list. You should not need stubborn via the crown of command in that saurus block- you should not be losing combat with that block. That's not it's purpose, and if you're losing combat by that much, AND you don't have more ranks (therefore being steadfast), then your unit is boned anyway. Your skink priest should be able to help them out enough with hex/augs.

    Hi there,

today I played against ogres. I changed my list a little bit, I took out the terradons and filled up the saurus warriors up to 31 including full commando. Tweaked a little bit the skirmisher units and stayed with the scar vet, gave him the burning blade, enchanted shield, light armour.

thanks to the stupid VP rules it was a draw. Basically only my skink priest and a salamander were left on the table. Maybe for those who are interested I summarize how the units worked:

Skink Priest: Sorry but the lore of heaven just sucks hard! It is so useless, unless you get the comet and have some fun and go all or nothing... he basically did nothing but sitting in a tower and doing some useless spells here and there...

Scar Vet with saurus warriors: So I managed to get in cc in the second turn! And charged 6 ogres, and i did exactly 0 wounds! 0!! Ok my dice where cursed that evening... So it was a draw. Second round of cc, I got attacked in the flank and lost in total... 10 to 17 or so... and couldn't hit snakes eyes (one a snake with 3 eyes :) )... and the whole unit was destroyed as it run 4 inches... Scar vet did basically nothing much...

Is it worth giving him the burning blade? maybe better something for attack boosting?

skink skirmishers: great, lost one unit too easily but could really use the full advantage of being skirmishers with the other one. He was never able to charge me and I could always shoot at him. With a little bit of better dice rolling they would have changed the game in the last turns...

chameleons: I dont know what it is, but these little f..freaks are just fantastic. Lost 2 of 6 in the first round due to some venomous wood and had one skink surviving almost the whole game killing one of the shooting ogres...

salamanders: hm.. I think with ogres I did face on of their least favorable enemies ... in the important moment I ate 2 skinks instead of firing or overfired... but still I guess these guys just rock...

In total I was pretty happy with the army itself although my dice rolling was ... ok lets not talk about it,..

Saurus warriors where very unlucky and I still struggle with my scar vet and his weapons.

Although not as useful as light or life, heavens is far from a useless lore and doesn't suck at all

Iceshard is one of the most useful signatures in the game (maybe fireball is more versatilez?) there is practically no unit that this is not worth casting on, minus one to hit in combat, minus one to hit in shooting, cannons only work on a 4+ and -1 to leadership, this spell can be a combat changer

Harmonic convergence, rerolling ones on a casting cost of 6, what a steal, super useful

Curse of the midnight wind, a bit larger to cast but rerolling enemy sixes, so messing up poison, killing blow as well as the super usefulness of negating sixes.

Granted the other spells are a bit meh and comet is situational, ogres are so fast it is useless against them. But because iceshard is so useful (and can be stacked) you can always switch the spell out for iceshard

Your Skink Priest needs Plaque of Tepok if your playing at 1000points. Forget the DS its not very helpfully in that low of a game. Youll be a lvl 2 Priest with 3 spells a better chance at rolling thos good spells.

Now I do have one question:
I just wanted to know what do you mean by use the Enchanted Shield in the LM book. Wouldnt thos items in that book be override by the new rule book in 8th? If not whats the differents?

The FAQ states that if an item is listed in the BRB and the army book. (such as the case for the enchanted shield) you use the rules text from the BRB but the points cost from the army book, so the enchanted shield is more expensive for a lizardmen army than other but conversely a war banner is cheaper but they all have the same effect for every army
