8th Ed. 1000pts for my first game

    Will be playing my first game in a few days so wanted to get some advice on this list. I am constrained by the models I have so i'll give you the list and then tell you what could be changed. Any advice would be great. No idea what I will be playing against as I am going to a gaming club so just going for an all round army.

    Scar Vet, Light Armour, Shield, Cold One, Sword of Might, Venom of the Firefly Frog
    (2+ Save, S6, Poisoned attacks)

    Scar Vet, Light Armour, Great Weapon, Dragon Helm
    (3+ Save, 2+ Ward against Fire, Attacks at S7)

    30 Saurus, Full Command, Spears (Second Scar Vet goes here)

    10 Skink Skirmishers, Javelins and Shields

    11 skink Skirmishers, Javelins and Shields

    8 Chameleon Skinks, Stalker

    3 Terradons

    This comes to 999 points. I don't usually invest so much in heroes but I don't have any other units. The builds for the heroes can be changed but they are already at 249 points so can't add anything more to them without taking something away (I do have another Vet on foot if the Cold One is taken away). The Chamo Skinks are just normal Skinks that I am running as Chamo so the Skink units can be played around with. Other than that not much can be changed i'm afraid!

    Any changes or advice on how to use this army would be greatly appreciated! Don't want to get too badly thrashed on my first game! Thanks.

    IMO i would change one of the scarvets to a skink preist; just so you can have some magic in their, and then make up the points with magic items, level upgrades sort of thing.

    other than that sounds like a pretty solid list.

    Ok, good advice. Maybe I will see if my opponent minds me using a normal Skink as a proxy for now. If I do that should I take the other Vet off the Cold One and put him in the unit or run him as a cowboy?

    Have also decided to cut both skink units back to 10 men, take off the stalker and take off the venom from the Scar Vet so that I can run 2x5 Chamo Skinks. So the list looks more like this now:

    Scar Vet, Light Armour, Shield, Cold One, Sword of Might

    Skink Priest, Dispel Scroll, Plaque of Tepok

    30 Saurus, Full Command, Spears

    10 Skink Skirmishers, Javs and Shields

    10 Skink Skirmishers, Javs and Shields

    5 Chamo Skinks

    5 Chamo Skinks

    3 Terradons

    Let me know what you think about these changes and about putting the Scar Vet on foot and in the Saurus or not. Thanks.
