8th Ed. 1000pts Noob Lizardsmen

    Hi, I'vw been playing 40k for some time now but hardly any fantasy. I've got the IoBB, read the BRB but not much more. I'd like to make a lizardmen army and this is what i came up with:

    Heros
    Scar veteran w/ LA, charmed shield, luckstone and potion of speed

    Skink Priest level 2 w/ plaque of tepok

    Core
    20 Saurus Warriors w/ spears and full command

    20 Saurus Warriors w/ spears and full command

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    Special
    3 Terradon Riders

    Rare
    1 Salamander w/ extra handler

    Tactics: Well, saurus attack head on, skink flank and priest support.

    Sounds very solid and is probably as good as it gets for an all-commers list.

    However you should remember that with a shaman some skinks, some terradons and a salamander ypu will be able to force many people to come to you. When that happens allow them to get the charge. In 8th the bonus you get from the spears is way better than getting the charge of.

    I figured I might come up with a more presice battle plan after i play a few games.

    Is there really nothing i could change?

    There are loads of things you can do. Exchange your teradons for chameleons, take fewer saurus and bring another salamander instead, go no magic and instead get a BSB/more troops in general or possibly equip the shaman with cloak of feathers and a rod of thunder. There are way more things that could be changed but with these like with all other changes that you could make it only comes down to what you decide you want to play with.

    Your list wont get much better, however it can change in many ways and remain as good and possibly more suited to your taste.

    I would suggest at least trying out the chameleons in some games.

    Good luck in your games and remember to read your opponents spells before placing your priest alone. Are some nasty "hit any unit anywhere" out there (learnt that the hard way against O&G).

    Would it be fine to run without magic? Quite frankly, i think the priest is much points and little power. Is a BsB really nessesary? Combined with cold blood the saurus is nigh unbreakadle. I have a feeling the salamander are just going to get shoot up but we'll se how it goes...

    If they are playing a fast army you will really struggle they will out manouvere you also you would really struggle against a gunline or heavy shooting DE army.

    If its going to be a saurus footslog maybe another unit of terradons or some chamo skinks to anti-warmachine/archer?

    I can just imagine you going against several mortors/cannons or loads of repeater xbows..

    New list! The shaman is no more and in his place theres some chamo skinks and some regular ones to threaten flanks. Might it still work?

    I disagree with the last army being close to impossible against some armies.

    For gunlines the terradons, the salamander and the priest will work great in order to limit their advantage. On top of that saurus are very durable and can take quiet alot of punishment and still be nasty when they reach the enemy lines.

    For fast armies you have got the salamander, the skinks, the priest and the teradons who will make it hard for fast and weak units to use their superior mobility without getting attacked. You have also got big hard blocks that can take a charge in the side or rear and then reform the next round and crush most opponents.

    I am not saying that the list he had was optimised against those kind of armies, but if you focus on taking down those types you will always lose something that is valuable against something else.

    Therefor i think the 2 lists that he have posted seem good enough to start with. He will then improve it as he sees fit depending on opponentsplay-style and gaming climate where he is at.

    Are mixed units of kroxigors and skink any good? Kinda cool at least.

    I think im just gonna have to see what works on the field as well as on paper. Now all i have left is a few hours of painting:)

    you should not have spears on saurus they are 2 few that leaves you with 39 points exchange potion for dragon helm 34 p take 3 saurus then you will have 2 x 22 saurus with hw shield they need to loose 13 before loosing attacks while the 19 with spears needed only 5 aaand you get 6+ ward in cc and better gear for scar-vet and really the 11 skinks cant threaten flanks kill 2 and you dont negate ranks.... and more offen than not they will simply give your enemy combat res

    yes they can be devestating mostly against heavy infantry or knights were the saurus only take one of their maybe 3+ making it 4+ the krox makes it 6+

    Plan is to make tha saurus units bigger later on so i'd rather keep the spears for now. How can i make the saurus wear a dragon helm without hom looking too retarded? What can i get instead of the skinks then? Another salamander maybe? Or another unit of skink skirmishers?

    i understand the part of the sáurus fine but you dont actually need to show that he is wearing a helmet as that can offen say whats in your list and is you have to put a picture of the sun on a standard of chotec that would be rather lame as you could never change gear on em just say its an invisible dragon helm :p lol a
    and for the skinks you can still keep em just for another job more like annoying shooting and maneuvering your enemy around was just pointing the fact out that they should not be used for flanking in most cases

    The more i think about it, i think i'll run the first list. I'll just make some changes to the scar-vet and ta-da! Thix for ur time guys, im looking forward to do some gaming :)

    BTW, how effective is the lore of heavens? Is the singature spell any good?

    the signature spell is great, and the rest can be very good as well. Wind blast is pretty hard to find a good use for but some people seem to like it.

    My favourite is (even though it is often unpractical) the comet. With some well thought placing and some luck it can win you the game.
