Hey All! Haven't posted on here in a while, but I'm getting back into Warhammer Fantasy and dragging the ole' Lizards and Dwarfs out of the closet. I'm attempting to get more people involved in my FLGS, so I'm making up 1000pt "starter lists" to play against each other, and I'd like some advice. Here is the Lizardmen List: Lizardmen 1000pts (Standard) Heroes: Scar Vet w/ GW, BSB, Light Armor, Dragon Helm, Cold One Skink Priest, Lvl 2 w/ Lore of Beasts Core: 25 Saurus w/ Spears, Champ/Standard/Musician 10 Skink Skirmishers w/ Javelins and Shield Special: Bastiladon w/ Solar Engine Rare: Ancient Stegadon w/ giant blowpipes Just for good measure, here is the Dwarf list: Dwarfs 1000pts (Standard) Heroes: Runesmith w/ Shield, Rune of Spellbreaking (dispel scroll), Rune of Stone (+1 AS) Thane w/ BSB, Shield (for shieldwall), Master Rune of Gromril (1+ armor save) Core: 23 Longbeards w/ Shields, Champ/Standard/Musician Special: 20 Hammerers w/ Champ/Standard/Musician Rare: Organ Gun w/ Rune of Forging (artillery dice re-rolls) Overall, I think this is a pretty fair set of lists - the Lizardmen list is much more mobile and can concentrate forces pretty heavily, while the Dwarf list is an attrition brick with a good hammer and anvil setup and a slight ranged advantage (that organ gun is nasty). I thought about switching it for a Cannon, but that seemed a little unbalanced against the Stegadon and Bastiladon. Any thoughts would be very helpful!
I'd suggest going with the cannon. The Organ Gun only has one decent target, the Skirmishers. If they are shredded to pieces the LM player loses their only mobile unit and their spellcaster. The cannon, while deadly is unlikely to be able to kill the Steggy AND the Bastiladon. I would recommend putting the Scar Veteran on foot though. A newbie is unlikely to think of doing it, but it would be unsportsmanlike in a learning game to cannonsnipe the Saurus character since he would not have a look out sir while mounted in an infantry unit. Also, welcome to the forums!
