So, here's a list to play against Ogres, I've never played against them before, but my opponent just started his army (like me) and it's a friendly game, no "Supreme-Championship-Of-Ruling-Everything" setting. I will post my army list first, and then the models that are painted and ready to play from which I could take swaps and changes. I don't have any other models that these. I like to play WYSIWYG to an extent, so apart from specific items, I don't like to use my Kroxigor models as Terradons, for example. Please post comments and feedback about things that are completely useless, or better used otherwise The list: Heroes *Saurus Scar-Veteran [General], Light armour, Shield, Great Weapon, Venom of the Firefly Frog, Aura of Quetzl Core *15x Saurus Warriors, Spears, Standard-bearer/Musician *10x Skink Skirmishers *10x Skink Skirmishers Special *12x Temple Guards, Standard-bearer/Musician, Blessed Totem Rare *Ancient Stegadon Total : 1000pts *Full options (things I could pick from) -15x Temple Guard in total (3 more, that is) -3x Kroxigors -Skink Priest on Foot -Skink Chief on the Ancient Stegadon *My reasoning behind... ...the Scar-vet: S7 is awesome, he has WS5 which will hit most things on 3+, and will wound everything on 2+. The Aura will make everything in that army hit him on 5+ (no Lords so all base attacks are on 4+, -1 for the Aura), which combined with his T5 will mitigate most dmg, and will allow him to go on a duel with the Ogre General as well (woundin him on 2+, even against T5). ...the Skinks: poison versus high T but low armour. nuff said ...the Saurus Warriors: well I kinda need an anvil, and spearmen are good, so with their static CR and ranked attacks they might deal some heavy dmg ...the Temple Guard: I love that unit, and with the +D6" charge banner they will be quite a surprise to my opponent (my General will be in here most probably). They can either chrage frontally, or can act as a hammer. ...the Ancient Stegadon: S6 impact hits will wound on 2+ instead of S5 3+, and the poison gatling guns will do a better job that then rank-piercing bolt throwers. Causes Fear, shoots myriads of poison darts, charges with impact hits of S6, T6, Stubborn and ItP, US10. Nuff said I guess. The Guard will be fielded in 2 ranks of 6 for maximum Attacks (since I will probably charge with the banner), having +1 CR for the rank, and the extra punch (I hope) from the General. The Warriors will be fielded 3x5, even if many ppl will probably argue that 6/6/3 is better for maximizing attacks but I prefer standing my ground versus killing whatever charges me. Lastly, just a reminder - both me and my opponent are very, very unxeperienced with our respective armies.
Beware of bull charges ! they can be quite deveestating. try to screen you saurus with skinks untill you get close. Poinson is a good solution to ogres, just be sure to stay on thir flanks, being outnumbered by fear causers is a real game breaker against ogres since they are US3 each... try to concentrate shooting one unit at a time untill its dead.
TG are kinda usless without a slann to make them stubborn, they are more expensive saurus with a better save, kroxigors would serve you better i think, they are S6 afterall and you are unlikely to be outmanouvered by ogres if you do change the TG for kroxigors you might want a chief on the anciet steggie with a stegadon warspear, that gives you 2D6+1 impact, 3+3 S6 attacks afterwards otherwise its a nice list, i like to have mor saurus usally but thats just me, i never leave home wihout 2x15 or 2x18
