Hey guys, had a battle last night vs The Brets. Here's about what happened, The lists: SV-CO-LA-Sh-Scimitar of Sun resplndant SV-CO-LA-BSB-Enchanted Shield-BBOC 18 Saurus spears, standard, musician 17 Saurus spears, standard musician 10 skink skirmshers 10 skink skirmishers 10 skinks 6 chameleon skinks 4 Terradons 1 Sala w/extra handler Bret list: General, grail vow, horse and stuff.. BSB, Virtue of duty, horse and stuff 8 KotR FC (BSB here) 8 KE 6! Pegasus Knights 5 Grail knights (General here) Deployment, from my point of view: Pegasus knights on the far flank, woods, Knights Errant, 6"gap, Grails, 8" gap, KotR with BSB Facing, Salamander, 10 skirmishers, 10 skinks Large hill which was partially covered in woods, Terradons in the woods, 10 skirmishers as redirectors in front of the Saurii blocks with my heroes. Chameleons also stood in the woods (no place to scout). He prayed so i took first turn: T1: I simply advanced somewhat, setting up for redirecting. I moved up so he didn't get any charges. he swooped his Pegasus Knights over, his KotR moved more over to the flank and the other knights advanced only a little. T2: Skinks move up to redirect. KotR could charge and be flanked, or stay put or advance a bit. KE could charge skinks, which I would flee; leaving them stranded. Pegasus coudl charge, which I would flee, leaving him stranded. He charged his Knights Errant in my skirmishers, which fled; leaving him stranded. But they fled so far that they blocked my skink cohorts from doing anything next turn... His Pegasusi charged my Skinks, I S&S, he won and overran a measly 4"; meaning I could get the charge with both my blocks next turn! Skinks outran his pegasi and rallied later on. T3: My general failed his stupidity, and thus couldn't charge...My BSB moved in for the kill however. Skink skirmishers on my left flank didn't rally, panicking my terradons off the table! the skink cohort stayed put. Skirmishers on my right rallied. Salamander spit and killed 3 KE. Who did not panic. Combat: My troops cause 3 wounds, he kills 3 back. I have SCR (3 ranks, banner, BSB, outnumber) and he breaks. I pursue, hoping to get out of LOS from his KotR (they were facing my flank). I ran the pegasus knights down, AND get out of sight from the KotR. Big swing in my favor. His turn 3: KotR charge flank of my general's block. It was 16" exact...Sooo my big block and hero are going down. Grails turn around and shuffle, KE do the same. Combat: he woops my butt with his KotR. And runs the Saurii and general down, ending in the woods. Turn 4: Skinks skirmishers on my left fail to rally and run off the table. Saurii face to take the charge of the Grails. Skinks move to annoy some more. Salamander fails. his turn 4: grails move in, errants move over, KotR move out of woods. Grails kill massive 7, my troops fail to deliver. I hold, barely. Turn 5: My inability to redirect his troops correctly is now starting to cost me. I have to sacrifice my chameleons and my last skirmishers in order to protect my BSB's block. I now have my Salamander, skink cohort, 8 Saurii with my BSB left. He has only lost his PK and half his errants. So 2 big hammers are still in the game and they are threatening! Sala fails. Combat: He kills another 4, and my so-called hero fails; again! I hold again, barely. his turn 5: charges my skink redirectors out of the way. combat: his grails finish off my saurus warriors. And my so-called hero fails! Do the math here: he had the chance to attack 12 times. only 2 hit, only 1 wounded; which he saved. Boo! the BSB holds however Turn 6: (we thought it was turn 5) Sala kills a KotR, but they didn't panic. BSB fails, but holds. His turn 6: moves in for a turn 6 charge on my lone BSB with his errants and KotR (remember, we thought it was turn 5). My hero fails, breaks and out-runs his opponents. My turn 7: Hero rallies, but I throw in the towel; there is nothing more to be saved. result: Massacred! Analysis: I failed to redirect his hammers correctly, costing me dearly. He didn't rush forward, but played more conservatively; which also threw me off a bit. My deployment wasn't optimal, I did not pay much attention to what i like to call: 'Panic lanes'. My skinks will flee some point int he game, so i need to check in what direction they will, and if they will not rally; they don't cause panic on other troops. In this battle; my skink cohort had to make an extra panic test (which they passed) and my terradons flew of the table as a result. His KotR on the flank should have been better dealt with. And his grails hit way harder than I think. All in all, food for thought. It also meant the end of my 'streak of no defeat', which stood at 7 (including 5 massacres ). I was fairly proud of that, but it also learned me to ALWAYS be on your top; or you fail. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed. The Hunted
Good report, sorry the outcome wasn't in your favor. Thats what I love about this game, its truly unpredictable. U could have the best list to walk over your enemy with but for some reason (dice) you fall short. 6 peg knights ouch! Hey I always learn more from a loss than a win. Take this and move on. As for your You may want to do some warhammer justice on that model. My choice of justice. (Hammer + downward force)+Pewter model = revenge. I call it the Hammer of woe treatment. Good game and better luck next time. Your Friendly Thunder Lizard
