Hey, I'm pretty much brand new here, but I played 7th ed for a while. I was wondering what you thought of this list for 8th:

    Skink Priest
    Level 2
    Staff of the Lost Sun
    Plaque of Tepok

    Saurus Scar Veteran
    Cold One
    Light Armour
    Shield
    War Drum of Xahutec
    Burning Blade of Chotec

    20 Saurus
    Spears
    Command Group

    18 Saurus
    Command Group

    12 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    6 Cold One Cavalry
    Command Group
Magic Banner (from Rulebook, can't remember the name)

    Salamander Hunting Pack
    3 Salamanders

    Total: 1500 points

The Salamanders and some other stuff is there just to make up points.

Well don't use the salamander as just a filler, he is by far one of our greatest units in 8th. Lots of people will now have big blocks of infantry, and sallies can march and shoot and the template auto-hits now. Lots and Lots of burning hits.

Saurus champions I am still not sold on, they were rarely used in 7th and I think they are going stay that way for 8th. But the 50 extra VP if you manage to kill a character would be nice.

Calvary took a big hit in 8th with the step up rule and requiring 2 ranks to break ranks on your opponent. Personally I won't be using them at all in 8th, but if you like them go for it :) But no longer will they break an enemy on the charge unless you get 2 ranks of them, and even then steadfast is going to be a bitch. Plus re-rolls from the BSB on break tests. I loved them in 7th when they weren't stupid, but in 8th I think heavy cavalry won't be used much. If you do use them do not attack the front of a unit, almost always go for the flank in 8th.

The war drum is not necessary really at all any more, as all it takes to march with an enemy near you is a LD test, and well we rarely fail those.

What is going to hurt you in 8th is going to be war machines, You will probably want a unit of terradons or chameleon skinks to go war machine hunting. Shooting got a big boost so expect to see even more war machines then before.
