Here is my list with which I played against Dark Elves and High Elves previously. Against High Elves I won, but against Dark Elves I lost, because his magic was to strong (everything he cast was a hit and he canceled out my Sallies, because he stopped them from firing in the next round every …. time). I use a list without magic, cause every time I use Magic it tends to do me more harm than the opponent. My Slann/TG and Skink Priest are thus retired ;-). Scar Vet (goes in SW unit) General Shield + LA Scar Vet (goes in CoR unit) BSB (Sun Standard of Chotec) Spear Cold One 3x Salamander 3x Krox 3x Terradon 9x CoR with Champion 13x Skink Skirmishers with Javelin and Shield (+ Brave) 25 SW with FC Total: 1497 Pts The Terradons did practically nothing (dropping rocks lead to zero wounds), except marchblocking and then a Rear Charge which led to 2 dead Terradons and a flight of the remaining Terradon). Maybe I need to swap these for 8 Chameleon Skinks (and for the points I need to drop the Shield of the Scar Vet or the Brave; I think it will be the Brave of the Skink Skirmishers). The CoR I’m not too sure of either. They performed well on the flank against the High Elves, but against the Cold Ones of the Dark Elves they were decimated like nothing. What I have for replacing things from the above list: 12 Chameleon Skinks, 11 Skink Skirmishers, 7 CoR, 7 SW, 10 TG, Stegadon (in whatever configuration with EotG, SkinkChief, SkinkPriest) and a Skink Chief. Cheers.
Re: 1500 List for tourney Well I played with the following list: Scar Vet (goes in SW unit) General Shield + LA Scar Vet (goes in CoR unit) BSB (Sun Standard of Chotec) Spear Cold One 3x Salamander 3x Krox 8x Chameleon Skinks 9x CoR with Champion 12x Skink Skirmishers with Javelin and Shield 26 SW with FC Total: 1500 Pts AND I GOT BEATEN LIKE Problems I faced: When getting the scenario with the Breakpoints, I only got 4 and can only afford to lose 2 points. My Scar Vet is way to fragile, so this one needs to be upgraded to an Oldblood. My Sallies were transformed into clanrats (stupid 13th spell). It was due to an IF, so I don't think a Wizard would have made a difference, but it did seem that all the magic that was happening hurted me a lot (against Orcs & Goblins). So I think I will have to go for a Skink Priest at least. I was happy though I swapped my Terradons for Chameleon Skinks as they did their work very well. Any suggestions for my next tourney are always welcome ;-)
Dreaded 13th is nasty, however your sallies should have been fine as the spell can only be cast on infantry (it's in the wording of the spell - 'This spell can affect a single infantry unit'). Of course your saurus would have been screwed but that's another matter!
1500+ = always take a Slann Your current list doesn't contain a single spell caster. That means giving up an entire phase. at 1500 points you can field a very nice Slann.. rumination, becalming, and plaque of tepok. At the very least you should have a skink priest. Just my two cents.
I think you should try upgrading to an Oldblood, try this kit out; Great Weapon, VotFF, Cold One, Armour of Destiny, Dawnstone. He is one of the hardest to kill characters in the game, and with 5 S7 attacks he will really add some punch to a unit he joins. You should try two Skink priests; one Skink priest with dispell scroll give the other Skink priest Cube of Darkness. This is a really nice magic item and we should always take it on a priest if you don't have s slann (or even if you have one, but it will be nasty). Use both the priests to cast Iceshard Blizzard and then use Dispell Scroll and Cube for antimagic. Having two priests is nice as even if one dies from a miscast you will have another one, so you won't completely miss out on the magic phase. put one of each of them in Unit of Skink Skirmishers as you don't want your skirmishers to be in combat anyway and it makes them harder to shoot at. I think the most important bit of advice anyone can give you is that everyone's play style is different and this is great for LM as we are flexible, so try out a lot of builds and units and see which ones work the best for you
I vote for one level 2 skink priest at least. The +2 is a big help and gives you something to do in the magic phase. At the very very least give a scarvet the ruby ring of ruin so you can toss all your dice at fireball.
Thx for the advise. I will try to build a list with an Oldblood and 2 Skink Priests (or at least one). Will go for 2 Sallies and 6 Chameleon Skinks then, to free up some points (and maybe drop the Krogigors). Slann with TG I have played 4-5 times and they did not work for me. As often mentioned on this forum you need at least 18 TG to be able to have still a decent troop after a miscast in which you lose 9 of your TG. I only have 10, so often got stuck on 1 TG with the Slann beside him (not so impressive ). Cheers
Lore of Life is your friend. Get rid of the nasty miscasting (most of the time) and regenerate fallen friends even if you do. Being able to put a 4+ regen save on your TG is also quite nice so even if your Slann does go bang there is a good chance half of them will survive it. Also, PLEASE remember, spells are all FULLY resolved BEFORE you roll on miscast.. which means irresistable force on throne of vines gets the full benefit of having throne of vines cast.
