hello, i have contstructed my army list but am wondering if any improvements can be made. scar veteran ; light armour, burning blade of chotec, carnosaur pendant tetto'eko skink cheif; shield, staff of the lost sun skink skirmishers X 20; brave X3 skinkX 26; brave x 4 standard bearer x 1 saurus warriors x 16; champion, musician, standard bearer jungle swarm cold one cavalry; champion, musician, standard bearer, sun standard of chotec razordon hunting pack
Hey, It seems you have constructed your army list using the rules in the lizardmen army book, These are now obsolete, they are new rules in the 8th edition rule book, The new rules are based on percentages rather than a number of selections. So at 1500 you are allowed 25% lord choice so you can fit a slann with some goodies into the list, this should be a serious consideration because a slann is very powerful at this level You are only allowed to spend 25% of the points on heroes, currently your list has almost 32% heroes so this is illegal, however if you consider taking a slann, you would not need tettoeko so this would sort out your percentage problems In your actual list: Rank and file skinks are nigh on useless unless A) they have kroxigors included to make a skrox unit B) they are used as a rear bunker for a skink priest So I would get rid of these and purchase more skirmishers or more saurus (as 16 is too small a unit, you want 20+ at least) Also you can only take one brave per unit of skinks, so again taking three or four is illegal, however skink braves are rubbish so drop them all. Skirmishers are best run in units of about 10 so split the twenty into two units of ten Jungle swarms are useless, take more skinks or saurus with those points How many CoC is in the unit? 5? Cavalry are not as good as they used to be and people say cold one cav aren't worth taking, but if you like them then why not, they can do a job Salamander are better than razordons in almost all cases so most people will say take them instead, however razordons can do a job (albeit not as well as sallies can) so if you prefer them then take them. Other than that? Consider looking at terradons or chameleons both of them are good units and if you have freed up points from your skinks
thanks for the advice, i had no idea; but according to the rule book you aren't allowed lords untils at least 2000 points, so does that make a slann illegal or not? otherwise i shall reconsider my list and repost it when i can by the way i have 8 CoC in the unit. i only chose to have 16 becuase thats all you get in a box and money is short as i am only 14.
In the 8th edition of the rulebook they changed the army composition, everything is done with percentages now (<25% Lords, <25% Heroes, >25% Core, <50% Special and <25% Rare), so you can have Lords in any points size game.
so ,for example, i could get rid of the multiple braves (leaving 1 in each unit) change the razordon to a salamander and swap the scar vet for an oldblood?
have redone the list; not to many changes as many models i already have (skinks, saurus, cold ones) Lords: saurus oldblood: 191 -carnosaur pendant -burning blade of chotec -shield Heroes: tetto'eko - 255 skink cheif-90 -staff of the lost sun Core: 16 X saurus warriors :206 -full command 23 X skinks(will be joined by cheif) 131 -brave -standard bearer 20 Xskink skirmishers(2 units of 10) ; 152 - brave (x2 one for each unit) Jungle swarm: 45 Special: 8 X Cold one cavarly: 355 -full command -jaguar standard rare: salamander hunting party: 75 will that be a better army than my previous? i need as much help as possible because i have not played a game of warhammer yet.
This list is definitely better than the previous, as it is legal! It isn't a conventional lizardmen list but that doesn't mean it won't be viable. From what I'm reading is that you don't have many extra models other than the ones in the list so you are looking to keep unit changes to a minimum, yeah? With that in mind, the easiest way to tweak this list is slightly alter the magic items as you have some weak choices. Old blood: the burning blade of chotec is good, the carnosaur pendant isn't ideal, how about glittering scales or gamblers armour? Give him some protection? Skink chief: give him some protection, he is only toughness 3 and will get killed easily CoC: Huanchis blessed totem is better than the Jaguar standard. Getting into combat is more important than pursuing, (in my opinion)
If you wanted to keep the block unit of Skinks, you should seriously consider getting a couple of kroxigor to go in it. To make room for them pointswise I would get rid of the Skink Chief entirely, as he doesnt really add anything to the army (dropping the Braves from the skirmish units as well would also free up more points, again, they don't add much). As Rhodium said earlier, making the Saurus unit larger would also be a really good idea (for rank bonus etc).
uit changes needed to be kept minimum as i have al models excpet tetto'eko and the sally. if i were to get some kroxigors i would probably just boost the army points a bit. again thanks for the advice.
just had a look at my army book and removing all braves and carnosaur pendant (and swapping jaguar standard for huanchis totem) that frees up 40 points for protection for oldblood/skink cheif - what do you recommend for this army? P.S. at this point in time i will probably mostly play orcs and goblins, vampire counts, and high elves. if that makes any difference again thanks for the help
Since you play with special characters, is the HE player bringing Teclis? If so, you will struggle with only Tetteeko as he is only a level 2 and cant take make items such as dispell scroll or feedback scroll. Protection for the character for about 40 points? Old Blood: Light Armour, Shield, Dawnstone, Dragonhelm. 51 points (although you already have the shield counted in your current built) 1+ rerollable AS, 2+ Ward against flaming Chief: Charmed Shield, Light Armour, 7 points, 5+ Armour Save and a one use 2+ Ward (essentially), this still leaves the chief weak, but chiefs are always weak, skinks
to my knowledge he doesn't have teclis, but he does have a mage (not sure on the level) if i were to have these improvemnts i would be 12 points over; i guess i could get rid of the dragonhelm and the light armour on the skink chief, would that work?
after some sorting things out i think i may have the finishe article. --SAURUS OLDBLOOD: TOTAL: 206 -BURNING BLADE OF CHOTEC: 20 -LIGHT ARMOUR: 10 -SHIELD: 6 -DAWNSTONE: 25 --TETTO'EKO: TOTAL: 255 --SKINK CHIEF: TOTAL: 95 -STAFF OF THE LOST SUN: 35 -CHARMED SHIELD: 5 --SKINK SKIRMISHERS [x20*]: TOTAL: 140 --SKINKS [X23]: TOTAL: 123 -STANDARD BEARER: 8 [X1] --SAURUS WARRIORS [X16]: TOTAL: 206 -SAURUS CHAMPION: 12 [X1] -SAURUS MUSICIAN: 6 [X1] -STANDARD BEARER: 12 [X1] --JUNGLE SWARM [X1]:TOTAL: 45 --COLD ONE CAVALRY [X8]: TOTAL: 355 -CAVALRY CHAMPION: 20 [X1] -CAVALRY MUSICIAN: 10 [X1] -STANDARD BEARER: 20 [X1] -hUANCHI'S BLESSED TOTEM: 25 --SALAMANDER HUNTING PACK [X1]: TOTAL: 75 *2 UNITS OF 10 (sorry for posting individual points its just copied from my computer because i couldnt be bothered to type it all out again)
tut tut I'm not sure laziness is a valid excuse! but thats not important Given that you want to stay within the models you have, this army list seems good, As long as it isnt Teclis, you should be able to compete with magic. Only one thing, You have dropped the Dragonhelm, I would drop the Light Armour and keep the Dragonhelm as Light Armour = +1 Armour Save Dragonhelm = +1 Armour Save AND 2+ Ward against flaming and they are both the same amount of points so there is no downside to taking the dragonhelm over the light armour
thansk for pointing that out, see, i said i needed help. i won't type out the list again. thanks for all the help and now i have a legal and half decent list.
