    First thing's first, hello everyone!

I am getting ready to set foot back into the WFB world after a long hiatus. I played extensively in 6th, but missed 7th entirely after an out of state move. I'm now back in MA and my old gaming group is starting to get back together. (We're all re-learning the game, most stopped playing shortly before 8th released)

I've been reading up on the rules of the game, but I feel like my sense of what is good and what sucks is still being strongly influenced by my 6th experience. We're getting ready for our first games, playing at 1500 pts. Here is the army list I have so far! One last bit of insight, we all tend to play more killy heroes and less magic, it's just sort of the way our play group evolved. I plan to swap to a Slann as my primary lord once we graduate to 2000 pts, though. For the time being we are trying to field mixed army lists without weighting them too heavily in one direction so we have a fairly balanced learning environment. I have a fairly large stock of models to pull from, the major exception being cold one cavalry. I think I only have 1 box of 5 models, I never even bothered to open it since they were so lackluster in 6th. Other than that I have mostly everything available to me.

    Heroes

Scar vet with crown of command, light armor, enchanted shield, venom of the firefly frog, hand weapon

Skink priest, lvl 2 with a cloak of feathers

    Skink priest, lvl 2

    Core

    Saurus x20, full command, spears

    Saurus x20, full command, HW + S

Skinks x10 with brave (the non-flying priest would be joining this unit)

    Special

    Kroxigors x3 w/ancient

    Chameleon skinks x10 w/stalker

    Rare

    Salamanders x3, no extra handlers.

My thoughts of alternatives are to drop the salamanders to 2, drop the kroxigors to 2 and put them in an 18 man skink block or perhaps bulk up the saurus units to 25, though that seems like a lot at this point level.

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Ever thought of including your cavalry into the list? Sure, they're not brettonian quality, but I've had good experience in using them.

I hadn't really given them much thought. I really like the idea of a cowboy scar vet, though!

Do cav see much use in current Lizardmen lists? They seem so expensive. :shamefullyembarrased:

I'd break the chamo skinks into two units of 5 and drop the stalker.

Personally, I would go with this. Your kroxigors will be able to stick around long enough to hit back, from behind the safety of the skink-meat-shield. It'll make a huge difference. Just remember: krox/skinks+krox aren't anvils; they're hammers, and should hit the flanks.

Other than that, I highly recommend squeezing a cube of darkness or dispel scroll onto one of your skink priests. A tip with 8th: one spell has the potential to cause massive destruction. Make sure you can shut it down before it happens, at least once.
The cloak of feathers is pretty situational, but I don't know your opponents, so it could be good; I wouldn't put it in an all-comers list.

Also this, and drop the Brave from the skirmisher unit. IMO Champions are usually not worth their points in 8th, often only taken to redirect challenges.

Thanks for the tips so far, folks!

I hadn't even thought about the fact that Kroxigors wouldn't go first on the charge anymore, yikes! That seems to make it very ill-advised to NOT put them in a cohort...

I can get a dispel scroll onto a priest no problem. A cube would put my max hero allotment over by 5 pts, so I'd have to trim something off the scar vet. Dispel scroll looks like the choice.

I mostly took the cloak of feathers because I don't have a second skink skirmisher unit to put him in. I'll be playing my trial games against orcs and gobbos, maybe some high elves.

    Here's the modified list.

Scar vet w/light armor, enchanted shield, crown of command, venom

skink priest lvl 2 w/cloak of feathers

    skink priest lvl 2

Saurus x24 w/spears and full command (leaving space for the scar vet, spears seem like the better defensive weapon)

    Saurus x20 w/ HW + S and full command

    Skink skirmishers x10

    Skink cohort x19 w/FC and 2x Krox

    Chameleon skinks x5

    Chameleon skinks x5

    Salamanders x2

I can't take both cloak of feathers and a dispel scroll, it puts me 15 pts over the hero cap. I decided that I'd prefer a flying caster as I'm at a loss for what to do with him otherwise. I suppose I could put him in the Skink cohort but I don't have fond memories of putting casters in units while I was playing 6th.
