hey everyone, im relatively new to fantasy and have played just a handful of games but Im doing a casual tournament with some of my friends soon. theyre playin a bunch of armies; HE, dwarfs, ogres, orcs and goblins, dark elves, empire and i need 1 or 2 set lists for the whole thing and heres what i have so far for my first one. basically a TG+slann unit surrounded by two units of saurus was what i used to use in entirety but that just seemed to costly and symmetrical and i was getting out flanked so i dropped that for some skinks. I plan to run lore of life with this, hence the gear on my slann to get throne of vines off first turn even with someone intent on dispelling it... Slann Focused Rumination Plaque of Tepok Power Stone Forbidden Rod.............. Temple Guard x 18 Standard Bearer w/ banner of swiftness (life is pretty short range and i wanna get my slann in there!) .......... Saurus Warriors x 20 standard bearer spears.................... Skink Chief (going in my biggest skink skirmishers unit) blowpipe, light armor, shield......... Skink Skirmishers x 16 skink skirmisher brave........ Skink Skirmishers x 10 Skink Skirmishers x 10 .......... and 8 chameleon skinks just to mess with em'........ so it comes out to 1500 flat. any suggestions on the list or how to use it to its full extent would be very helpful, thanks everybody Edited. Do NOT post individual points cost for units/items. Thanks.
You won't be able to take Plaque of Tepok, Power Stone and Forbidden Rod on the Slann, as you can only have one single arcane item per character. I'd use the points to take another discipline, such as Becalming Cogitation or Focus of Mystery. Also, consider using musicians in your saurus and temple guard units; the reform and move ability they grant is invaluable. They may clear this up in the next FAQ, but as it stands at the moment an enemy character can challenge your Slann just as though he was in the front rank. For this reason I always take a unit champion in the temple guard. If you roll up the Rebirth spell you will be able to bring him back to life, so I think it's a good value to give the champion his <25 point item. Think about what you want the Skink Chief to do for your army. If he's there just to add another, more accurate blowpipe shot I don't think it's worth it. You should be keeping the skirmishers out of combat, so kitting him for hand to hand isn't the way to go, either (if it was a ranked Skink unit with kroxigors, it would be a different story). If you have a model for the Chief and want to use him, I'd make all three skirmisher units 12 man, put the Chief in one, and give him the Staff of Lost Sun for better firepower. That's all I can think of for now. Good luck!
You can have up to 375 points of Lords in a 1500 point game. Slaan with one discipline base cost is 275. You can add a 2nd discipline and a cupped hands or something and still be under point value in 1500.
Farsight, please read the FAQs. As it is pointless to use a slot system from seventh edition in the percentage system of eighth all armies use the same rules for generating armies, Min 25% core, max 25% in heroes, lords and Rares, and 50% Max in specials.
