'Afternoon fellow Lustrians! o/ After a draw against my Skaven opponent in our 1k game, it's time to move up to 1.5k. We're still using 7th ed rules as neither of us have the new rulebook, but with the removal of rolling for partial hits for all templates, and not just Skaven spells. Anyway, let's cut to the chase: 1x Saurus Scar-Veteran - General - Light Armour, Shield of Maiming, Sword of Battle 1x Skink Priest - Lvl2 - Scroll, Diadem of Power 1x Skink Priest - Lvl2 - Scroll, Plaque of Tepok 17x Saurus Warriors - Standard - Spears (scar-vet goes here) 15x Saurus Warriors - Standard 12x Skink Skirmishers 12x Skink Skirmishers 12x Skink Skirmishers 8x Chameleon Skinks 2x Salamanders - Add. handlers 2x Salamanders - Add. handlers Total: 1498pts I ran Cold Ones in the 1k list but axed them in this iteration as they've never made up for their points. The two salamanders on the other hand... my saurus + scar-vet regiment was wasted by his plague monks + plague priest and clanrats + chieftain. Before combat the sallies halved his clanrats, after combat it finished off both regiments. Win. As soon as my opponent has the points, he'll run a plague priest and a warlock engineer. I need to stop their magic at all costs. It's likely that he'll run a doomwheel as well, and against it my best bet is magic and blowpipes. He'll probably put his monks against my big saurus regiment, which will allow my other saurus regiment to rape any of his other combat units. I'm considering axing two skirmishers in favor of spears for that unit. Terradons and kroxigors are out of the question! I do have a couple of stegadons, however. So, what do you guys think? Should I change anything? Am I missing something? Opinions are welcome. As a secondary question, how do you guys think this list would fare in 8th ed? Cheers! /Lycanthrope
im new to the army myself but from my limited experience it looks a nice list, you can never have too many salamanders
One thing to remember about Skaven. The storm banner! It BLOWS It will shut down your shooting by giving an additional -2 to hit. The banner also makes you're salamanders have to role a 4+ to even fire. The only plus to this banner is that effect goes away on a d6 roll of 4+ (the skaven player rolls every turn after the activation of the banner). That banner is a huge pain in the arse. It will shut down your shooting altogether (and I like my shooty skinks). Other than that, you have a solid list. Working in a stegadon would be good (EOTG if you are playing 7th). On the 8th edition, you would be able to field a Slann. List looks good. I would also recommend dropping one unit of skirmishers and adding cohorts instead. Then outfitting the cohorts with at least a musician and banner (for 8th edition) as these will help you in some of the pitched battle scenarios as well as add to combat resolution.
I'm prone to agree! Unless... The existence of the storm banner was pointed out to me when I asked around on warseer as well. I'm basically completely fucked if he brings it, and I can't think of a list which will make me storm banner and doomwheel proof. FFFFFUUUUUUU- A saurus + steg list maybe? As long as I can keep his doomwheel away from my steg, which is extremely unlikely, I might make it.
If you can go first, you can possibly get into shooting range and shoot the first roung. If not, he activates the banner and you're shooting will suck. That banner will fail at some point, then it is game on. If the unit that has the banner breaks, the banner breaks too (keep that in mind). Throw some magic at the unit and maybe break it that way.
