Hi everybody, Friday I'm up agains someone from my local store. I have no idea what army he plays and he doesn't know mine. I was thinking of something like this: Scar-veteran -GW, Hide of the coldones Scar-veteran -LA, CO, Enchanted shield, Burning blade, BSB Skink-priest -Engine, diadem, scroll 18 Saurus warriors (general goes in here) -Spears, musician, banner 10 Skink skirmishers 10 Skink skirmishers 6 Saurus cavalry -Musician, banner 3 Terradons Salamander hunting pack -Extra handler Exactly 1500 points It might be a little hero heavy, what do you guys think? C&C much appreciated
Looks like a solid list Maybe try to find the points to upgrade your Skink Priest to level 2 (where the Engine really kicks in ) and a normal shield for your general. If you come up against Elves you don't really need the higher strength unless they've got some serious armour on. To have the option to go for hand weapon and shield is always nice
I'm not so sure about the extra lvl, it seems to me that the extra lvl is only usefull if you go magic offense. 2 of his powerdice will probably go to dispel anyway so there's not much of a magic phase left after that... I could drop the extra handler and get my general a shield. You are right it is better that way. I was just 3 points over limit so i removed it. I was also considering to drop my general and the battle standard to get an other salamander and a unit of chameleons.
The reason you make him a level 2 is because of the extra dice he generates for both PD and DD(since he gets bumped to lvl 3 you get an extra DD), also for 2 spells. You could then use 3 dice to try and get a spell through on offense and still save 2 for extra DD. This would give you 6 DD.
I wouldn't drop the BSB or the general for more shooting support. What I would consider is swapping your characters around; make the Scar-Vet on Cold One your general and the one in the Saurus unit your BSB. Most people underestimate the value of a BSB, combined with Cold Blooded... we stay in combat a lot longer. Neither would I drop the general as he adds more umpff to your hammer unit (if you were to change them around) With two units Skirmishers, a Salamander and the Terradons you have enough harassment units, more shooting would weaken your combat phase...
Thanks fot al the comments Swapping the BSB/general... interesting, I was thinking of making the CO BSB as i tend to see a lot of Dark Elves with there wretched Hydras, The burning blade combined with the BSB makes for a very potent hydra hunter. He wil be farther away from the fighting blocks i think though... Still thinking about that one... Then there is the lvl 2/3 wizard, how you say it it might acually work The only problem is getting the points... I might swap to a more offensive setup. Mabye something like lvl2 and wardrums?
So I made some minor changes on the equipment of the priest. I got him the drums and plaque of tepok as well as lvl 2. For this i dropped his original magic items and a cold one rider. I had the game today and it turned out he played an all khorne warriors of chaos list. Something along the lines of this: Exalted hero on Juggernaut with SoM and some ward save and reroll on the eye of the gods table or something. He got 12 which ment he got a 4+ ward and stubborn....nasty 16x Chaos warriors, FC 16x marauders, FC 2x5 warhounds 5x marauder horsemen 5x chaos ogres, chaos armor 5x Chaos knights (hero here) 1 spawn pretty much all of the units that could had the mark of khorne and some sort of favour of the gods I got forked lightning which saw a unit of hounds and marauder horsemen die. Skinks did awesome. Saurus took care of the ogres and marauders. I managed to get my cold one scar-vet in the knights flank and next turn i rear charged what was left of them with my EotG, Impact hits and burning allainment killed his hero! Basically everything went right. steg got charged after the knights died by the warriors but he lived and killed what was left of them after my cold one scar-vet dropped by. btw my CoR all died by ridiculously bad armor rolling against the warriors (he got 7 wounds on then, i needed 3+... rolled 6 2's and my unit was gone....) We didn't count all the points but it was either a major victory or a masacre for me Thanks for all the advice guys!
I slightly changed my list, as i found my hide of the coldones scar-veteran almost useless. So i switched him for a JSoD. the equipment on my priest has changed as well, freeing enough points for an other salamander. Scar-veteran: LA, CO, BBoC, ES Scar-veteran: LA, Sh, GW, jaguar charm Skink Priest: EotG, plaque of tepok, scroll, lvl 2 18 saurus: spears, musician, banner 2x10 skink skirmishers 3 terradons 5 saurus cavalry: musician 2 salamanders or 1 salamander and 6 chameleon skinks 1498 points better?
