Hi! I've been out of the game for a year now, and haven't bought the new warhammer rulebook yet, but I have a tournament coming up in a few months, and could need some thoughts on this list:

    Skink Chief
    War Spear
    Ancient Stegadon

    11 Skink Skirmishers

    11 Skink Skirmishers

    6 x Cold One Cavalry
    Standard Bearer
    Sun Standard of Chotec

    Stegadon

    Stegadon

    3 x Salamanders

    Total: 1499 points

    Personal thoughts:
No unit has lower than M 6, meaning that all my units that survive should be able to charge something in the second or third turn. Except for the skinks (which are for screening the sallies and cav anyway), the entire army causes fear/terror. Combi-charges should auto-break most units. Terror also gives some protection against flankers and march blockers, the biggest threat to this build. The sallies combined with 2 Giant bows and 2 Giant blowpipes gives the potential for a decent shooting phase, should I opt for it. The biggest weakness is obviously no magic. Would an engine be better than an ancient with war spear?

    All constructive comments appreciated

8th edition is all about block infantry and shooting. You have zero units that will break a horde unit of infantry. A block of 50 night goblins will sit and tar pit 2-3 of your units with steadfast till their support flanked you. Even if you flank them none of your units can break ranks on them. So they will have more ranks then you and be stubborn, plus if near a BSB they can re roll any failed LD test. There is no auto-break anymore.

The new template rules will destroy your general as if it hits your stegadon, it hits ALL the models riding it. They are still somewhat viable, but having a general on one is way to risky. And new magic will eat up them as well.

MonsterHammer and HeroHammer is gone, you need blocks of infantry. Sorry if I sound harsh, but this is very much a 7th edition list, and 8th really changes the game. you really need to read the new book before making a tourney list.

In 8th edition you also have different requirements for the build of the army.

    Lords-25%
    Heroes-25%
    core-at least 25%
    special-50% max
    rare-25%

That means that you can have a lord at that point lvl. You should look at revising your list with that in mind.

Well that is a given as he has nowhere near enough core for it to be a legal army in the first place for 8th.
