Hi All, I just got back into WH fantasy after finding a big box of my old Lizardmen in at my parents place. Tomorrow I'll be getting to play some games at a club. 1500 points is the plan. This is what i came up with. (345) Slann mage-priest -1 discipline (Rumination) -plaque of Tepok, Divine plaque of protection -BSB (355) Skink priest -engine of the gods (270) 20 Saurus warriors -spears, FC (70) 10 Skink skirmishers (70) 10 Skink skirmishers (60) 5 Chameleon skinks (175) 5 Cold one cavalry (80) Salamander hunting pack -1 extra handler (75) Salamander hunting pack 1500 points on the nose. Any C&C is more than welcome
Looks like a good list. In my armies I try to take at least 25 Saurus if I want spears. That way I can take a few casualties and still get 3 ranks of attacks when they get into combat. But at 1500 pts it may not be a big issue, especially with your Engine pumping out a 5+ ward.
So how did your game go? I agree with the last advice - lose the spears, lose the cavalry. I'd also drop the Engine myself, because I'd rather have an Ancient Stegadon to charge into combat.
Well the games went quite well actually . I was late because of the trains, missing the first round. This eliminated any chance of ending high ofcourse but the other 3 rounds were a blast! Only thing i changed was switching rumination for the higher state of conciousness. Round 2 (first i attended) was against Warriors of Chaos. The mission was highest points value within 18" of the centre of the table. He had a sorcerer, combat lord, knights, two blocks of warriors (Khorne and Tzeentch) and a hell cannon. He moved first and i managed to flame his knights with both my sallies turn 1, killing 3 out of 5. I charged my cavalry into his Khornite warriors, only one CoC survived, but he lived through like 3 full turns of combat! he eventually charged my saurus with the Tzeentch warriors. the EotG and Slann were busy with the chaos lord who after losing his knights unit had run between my lines and was in my backfield, threatening my slann. Luckily i could march out of LoS until he got frustrated and slammed him into the back of my EotG, where he remained the rest of the game. The hell cannon survived the game, although i had a unit of chamo's and skinks shoot at it all game. I won the game by moving my Slann into the objective range on the last turn. Minor Victory Round 3 (my 2nd) was against an other Lizardmen army. The mission was simple, control more buildings than your opponent and kill more points. he had a huge block of Temple guard (in horde formation) with a Slann, a unit of Saurus (hw+sh), 2 units of skinks and 10 chamo skinks. Turn one i moved my slann forward into the 24" range of the pumped up dwellers below and fired away with 6 dice, getting IF. That took care of his Slann and about 12 TG! :O i then crushed his saurus with mine and my EotG, though i was cornered by his TG and my slann was charged. he was ethereal but i put him in a unit of skinks and that's the last time! they won by CR and i broke, bye bye slann. I still won the battle by controlling 2 buildings and contesting the last one. As well as having killed more. Minor Victory Round 4 (my 3rd) was against Wood elves. I had never played them before and didn't feel very confident about this one. the mission was pick up more objectives then your opponent. Objectives were in a river running across the board, only heroes and lords could pick up objectives. He had a wizard(with 'get an extra dispel die for every spell cast on 3 or more dice), a waywatcher hero in waywatchers (with the move to any forest magic item), 2 scout units, 2 fast cav, 2 archer blocks and the eagle riders. the details are a little foggy, but I made sure i had a closed rank where his units couldn't slip through, moved everything up and managed to charge his archers with wizard with my CoC, running them of the board. i toasted his scouts with a sallie and a skink unit. His waywatchers turned up behind me in a forest and tried to kill my steg (they failed). He really couldn't hurt my slann as it was ethereal and 2+ ward from ranged. At this point i had 2 objectives and next turn i fried his waywatchers with a lucky salamander. He conceded. Major Victory It was a really nice tournament with a lot of very nice players. Thanks for your comments! I have my saurus with spears because they were nice in 7th, still haven't changed them. I think i agree with you guys, but the extra points help for the 25% core and i prefer playing WYSIWYG. Also in my games i usually get my saurus in combat with at least 2,5 to 3 ranks, so i guess they work okay. I know the CoC are expensive, but they are really fun and work quite well for me. I was actually thinking of getting more I wouldn't mind having a scar-vet, but the EotG did very well and it is really one or the other. cheers!
