I played my Dark Elf friend this weekend, and I got my ass whopped every single day. So now I want to consult Lustria Online for help with my list for the next time! Okay, we are still new to the game, still trying to get the hang of the rules and so on. We play in a very friendly environment, not competative at all. This doesn't mean that I don't want to win though . Anyway, I need thoughts on this list: Lords: Slann Mage-Priest BSB, Harmonic Convergence, Channeling Staff Heroes: Saurus Scar-Veteran Cold One, Dragonhelm, Light Armor, Great Weapon, Luckstone(poor mans Dawnstone) Core: 20 Saurus Warriors Standard Bearer, Musician 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers Special: 20 Temple Guard Full Command Bastiladon Solar Engine Rare: 2 Salamander Hunting Packs Alternatively, switch the Bastiladon for a babysteg and the cowboy for a Skink Priest with Cube of Darkness, because I have lots of problems with his magic phase, pesky Word of Pain and Bladewind! This would need a bit of tweaking to fit though. What are your rhoughts?
At 1,500 points, I think that a Slann is too much. Run two Heavens Priests and a Bastiladon for magic support (Elves will dread the Solar beam, and the Heavens buffs/debuffs will make for all sorts of rerolling fun for both sides!), then use the spare Lords points to grab a tooled up Oldblood (on foot or on a Cold One - your choice). It would be helpful to know what it is in particular that you are struggling with. Dark Elves have a number of key sterngths, but you need something that can deal with: 1) Mobility (Dark Riders, Warlocks, Pegasi Masters, Shades) 2) Magic (Warlocks, Sorceress') 3) Big combat blocks (Executioners, Corsairs, Witch Elves, Black Guard). 2) Can be covered off with some Skink Priests and, if you really want, a Ripperdactyl Chief with the Egg (go assassinating), or a unit of them. For 1), I'd suggest a unit of Terradons for that sweet drop rocks. In regards to no. 3, both of your combat units are too small to really weather their attacks. So I'd probably be looking at something like: Oldblood with Enchanted Shield, Dawnstone, Light Armour and magic weapon of your choice. He's got a 1+ re-rollable for defensive, so you can either run a Sword of Battle/Strife/Bloodshed so that he can really cut through T3 Elves (Stack the Egg with a Sword of Battle to get some wounds in before the Elves strike), or Piranha Blade + Potion of Strength if you're having trouble with monsters. 2x Skink Priests Level 2 with Dispel Scroll and Cube. Like I said, I think that Heavens is best, but Beasts certainly isn't a bad option. Knock one down to Level 1 to fit in some more toys. 2x 10 Skink Skirmishers with Javelins and Shields. Pull that being Frenzied Death Star away. 30 Saurus with Full Command. I'd probably run them with Shields and Hand Weapons just for that Parry Save to keep a couple more alive, but Spears aren't bad because Elves are the one few opponent where that extra handful of S4 attacks will actually be worthwhile. You just need to bring lots, because the Elves will be going first. Oldblood goes here! Blastydon with big old blasty beam, for blasting Elves. 3 Terradons for running after Dark Riders, Shades and Warlocks 3 Ripperdactyls also for running after them and wizards. And then keep those Sallys so that they can carry on doing what they do best. That should put you around the 1.5 mark. I actually tend to think that both the Elf books are something that Lizards can deal with.
I just ran a very similar list at 1600 points. Went WD on the slann with the book of azure and only had one sally. I had a few more skirmishes. Overall the match was close but the de player had a corsair death star. His magic outclassed mine, and his main block wiped out all the tg in 2 rounds. Bastilladon was my mvp, but much of that was luck. Expect to lose units fast with all the rerolls. I agree with dropping the slann given my last match outcome. Remember his movement is 5 for most troops, so he will control most engagements, dont deploy sallies on the deployment line as de have gw welding scouts. All that said, wildform is a must. All that said, I have no idea what the rest of the de army does. Good luck to you!
