iv got a friendly match coming up, my opponent is fielding; excluding magic items, command grps etc. -Lvl 3 Necromancer in a unit of 32 zombies -Lvl 1 Vampire in a unit of 35 Skeletons -1 Cairn Wraith in a unit of 22 Grave Guard -1 Vargulf -5 Wolfs -2 spirit hosts To counter this my list includes; -1 Mage priest (BSB) in a unit of 16 temple guard -1 sauras scar-vet on cold one -20 sauras hand weapons -18 sauras hand weapons -10 skinks blowpipes -10 skinks blowpipes -1 salamander pack We are both pretty inexperienced players but my basic strategy is to hold my main line an make him work agaisnt the sallies flame an skink harassers. the aim is to block 1 flank with them, his vargulf will be pincushioned by 40 darts if nearby, ghost providing the major annoyance as they are ethereal. I plan to have my scar-vet as a counter charge for this reason tooled with magic weapons an high armour save. From what iv gathered u take the undead commander an the army crumbles, so I am opting for lore of death for my slann, extra casting dice an Cupped hands. the idea here is so roll maximum amount of dice in the first few spells/turns in an attempt to assassinate his necro an vamp (possibly vargulf) with the many single target speaks availed to that lore. bonus being that many dice being rolled is hard to dispell, irresistible force is bound to happen, an the miscast transferred to his casters is a double win. Does anyone have any thoughts about this line up? I am open to suggestion
i think one saurus unit is to small, 18 is a small number i take it you go lore of life with this list? specially with the small amout of temple guard? since u both are unexperienced it will be a fun battle and keep us up to date how it goes!
I would love to bolster the numbers in my sauras regiments if I had the points. The reason i left them being if I can kill his necro with lore of death spam my sauras will chew through his regiments taking few losses. (or even his vamp, leaving my scar vet to chew the necro in a challenge) I would have to sacrifice a unit of skinks, or even my Sally to reinforce my sauras, but they are my only counter to his flanking units of wolfs an vargulf. does this sound like a good idea?
if u plan on going lore of death, i would opt for a solo slann lose the tg and get those points in getting a 2nd sallie and boost your saurus units to 30 each, if u got points left add some more annoyance units, like terradons or skinks
In those small games I have great experienve with running saurus around 18-20. ppl do think it is too low, but i find it frees up points for me to get sallies and other good stuff and to me atleast it seems to be the better choice. They are ofc, more prone to panic tests etc. but those are rarely a problem as a lizardman
I did a few theory tests of CC with his regiments and my sauras, an I doubt even after 4 turns that he would be able to destroy my blocks of 18 and 20. I am killing 3 to his 1 of skeles. I aim to keep my blocks within slann bubble, ld 9, BsB re rolls. cold blooded I should pass all leaderships tests. I hadn't thought of leaving the temple guard at home tho so I will seriously think on this, see what else I could swap in! thanks My main concern was leaving my slann in the open givin the speed of a vargulf hitting him
as i dont recall the vargulf having flaming attacks, your slann cant be hit, the main trick is to keep your slann wandering around somehwere safe =)
That is assuming I Opt for making my slann ethereal? I don't think I hve the points (exceeding max lord pts)
in a 1500 pt list you can have a slann with 2 disciplines and cupped hands with no problems: remember that the first discipline is free
Oh I have been using the warhammer army builder on my computer, it generates points values etc. assuning its right it states the max points for lords is 375 in a 1500 point bracket. slann Bsb with cupped hands is 345, takin a 2nd disciple takes him beyond this. I would have to swap disciples or drop bsb (which I don't like the idea of )
i play solo slann on 1500 points bsb, ethereal, plaque of tepok , crown of command IF u go lore of death why: lwo casting values, no real need for rumination a few shit spells , no need for loremaster i dont remember if ugot points left, but if u have, u could give him some magic resistance to up his wardsave vs miscasts and enemy magic or ethereal, plaqu eof tepok, crown of command, rumination if u like an other lore u need a cold one bsb rider tho =)
I worked out if I swap my temple guard out for sauras, bring it back to 3 bloks of 18. swap my slann equipment to BsB, ethereal, cupped hands, an giving him Plague of Tepok, he should be fine on his own seeings he won't be facing any magic spells (VC player only has resurrection speeds and curse of years) this allows me to add a 2nd Sally into my choice with I think 10 points spare this sounds like a better line up I think
