Hi all, Been otherwise occupied of late and my poor Lizzies have been feeling quite neglected, so its time to polish the scales and crack open the weapons vault! I've got a 1500pt game against Nurgle Daemons but we both tend to use all comers lists so without further ado, I give you my latest list! HEROES Scar Vet. (general) - Light armour, Shield, Cold One, ??? items? Designed to be tough, with a nice save, and a cold one to give fear protection, weapon/ equipment options still pending... Scar Vet. - Light Armour, Shield, Cold One, BSB, ??? items? Same idea as the General, good save and cold one, magic items still pending... Skink Priest - Lvl. 2, Diadem of Power Anti magic defence, 5DD should do the trick when its this low a points, could potentially have a D. scroll as well but trying to shave the points... CORE 16 x Saurus - Spears, standard, mus. 16 x Saurus - Spears, standard, mus. The Mainline, each unit gets a Scar Vet and ranks up 6 x 3 for maximum spear-induced carnage... 10 x Skink Skirmishers 10 x Skink Skirmishers 10 x Skink Skirmishers For Harrassment/ diverting, and all the poisonous shooting that we love them for... SPECIAL 3 x Terradons 3 x Terradons For those who weren't familiar with my previous lists I LOVE TERRADONS!!! So much utility, so many options, and relatively disposable to boot! Stegadon My "Hammer" unit, to support the wall of Saurus might! So strategically, the Saurus hold the line, the steg supports, the Terradons and skirmishers harrass and weaken the enemy lines, and take out shooting/ magic/ war machine threats. Thoughts? Suggestions? Criticisms? I have about 79 points left over for items on the scar vets, but unsure what to take besides the Burning Blade of Chotec on 1... Any help would be greatly appreciated!
BBoC+Enchanted Shield is quite a build... That leaves you with 64 points on items (or units). I'd pick a scroll. For an all-comers army; you really want something to stop that crucial spell->hence a scroll. 39 points to go... Bane head perhaps? Sword of might? VotFFF? Even Sword of the Hornet if you like that... Those are pretty personal choices. My vote would go for Sword of Might (lovely S6 attacks) and bane head. BBoC+ES Bane Head+SoM or BBoC+Bane Head ES+SoM That's what you have to decide! Otherwise; solid list. Remember your scar-vets are a kind of semi-hammers as well! Now, put it to good use! The Hunted
I'd think about a simple magic weapon often over looked, the sword of might! +1 str will give you scar vet a better chance to bite through that high toughness and armour to boot. Plus it's relatively cheap so you have more points for elsewhere. I'd also consider giving your two blocks of saurus one more model so that you have three FULL ranks of six after you enter your Scar vets. You may also want to consider putting a champ in each unit for challenge protections since you are planning to put your characters in there. Dispel scroll, never leave home without one! Other than that I can't really think of any other things you'd wanna do besides perhaps beefing out your units.
The Hunted just advised to use the SoM and the Scar-Vets are both riding cold ones so take two spaces which takes the blocks to 6x3. an other option to consider is the SotSR or SoB/MS combo. Both get you a 6 S5 attacks Scar-vet. which in my oppinion works like a charm. VotFF is also a solid option, perhaps with a halberd or AHW (does that work when mounted). As stated above BBoC/ES is really good, i'd give that to your BSB for some serious bashing. Good luck! I hope to hear from your results!
I don't have the BRB with me but I'm 98% sure you can't gain the benefit of AHW in close combat when mounted.
Is that actually the case? I don't have the book handy, so I can't remember if there's a special rule for mounted scar-vets, but typically I've found that usually when a unit joins - unless it has a specific rule stating that it counts for rank bonuses for the units it displaces... it just counts as a single unit in the ranks.
Look in FAQ #2 on games workshops website it explains formations with mixed base sizes.... basicly the big base unit counts toward what ever size bases the bain unit has... so a mounted scar vet count as 2 saurus warions as far as ranks go, it also happens that he is US2 so that works out nice and even.
Adding larger character models to a unit will increase the rank and file size of the unit. Elsewise a unit which has a Slann join it wouldn't be able to form up around it, and the unit would look pretty funny and be very awkward to handle on the field.
Well in the slann's case - it specifically states in its rules that it replaces a 2x2 block and counts as those units for rank and file. That's why I was thinking it doesn't unless specified. I'll take a look at the faq when I get home again, cause that actually would help me out for a list I'm building as well.
