Hello there everybody, I've lurked around for a while, and decided to finally sit down and type something, and get that postcount going. I am completely new to lizardmen, though no rookie when it comes to WFB in general, I've played VC, WoC and DE for many years now, and decided to go for a change. I went to a tournament this weekend, pretty strickt 1999 pt tournament, not a lot of magic or shooting is allowed, and this is what I came up with, I just wanted to run this by you and hear what you think. Scar veteran, general, cold one, LA, Shield, +2 A schimitar Scar veteran, BSB, horned one, LA, enchanted shield, halberd Skink Priest, 2 scrolls, engine 2*15 saurus, spears, fcmd 11 saurus, spears 2*10 skink skirmishers 10 skinks 15 skinks, musician 3 Krox 3 terradons 2 salamanders This list was pretty much dominated by what i had painted, the special slots suffered a lot by that fact, (and the fact that max 1 large target was allowed). Mathias
Yes, he can have any magic items within his limit, as long as his banner is not magical. As to the list, I would make a couple minor tweaks to the characters. The horned one I don't really like, as it severely limits the scar-vet on his equipment options. You have a 0+ save against shooting but in hth only 2+ (though I suppose you can choose to use a normal hand weapon). The Horned one is a love it or hate it kind of thing, but I can't find a way to make it appear useful to me. There is no unit you can join to use its movement of 8, joining cold ones you still have to test for stupidity and only go 7. Joining ranked units the thing is a glorified armor save boost. Running that thing on its own probably isn't the wisest idea.. it just takes one ignore armor save warmachine to take it down. That said, he should be just fine in a "soft list" like you mentioned. The Priest I would swap one scroll for the diadem of power, but this is purely personal preference and based on what you tend to face mostly. The army looks good, though the 11 spear saurus unit looks a little weird. A flanking detachment maybe?
Thanks for the comments guys, now that you guys had your chance to comment, I'll tell you how I went. first things first, the BSB is great with the horned one and 0+ save, I faced off against 2 daemon players, do you have any idea of how great a +0 save reliable guy with M8 is against flesh hounds! He can grind those units really fast, especially since they couldn't use a BSB, (restrictions), and no lord ld. personally I would have taken the diadem if the restrictions allowed it, if i'd gone with the diadem I would leave home without any scrolls, not good. It was a 1999 pt tournament, the restrictions was alright, but allowed a bit too much magic IMO, wich made the VC and daemons really powerful. 50 players started off, I finished 4th, and I'am more than pleased considering my B army "soft" list. Battle 1, against skaven, my krox panicked off the table, as well as the salamanders died turn 1. I felt the pressure, but saurus and scar vets saved the day, they walked through any skaven unit, one of the big saurus blocks took 25 plague monks to the front, 4 rat packs to the flank, and won combat. 20-0 Battle 2, against the VC raising army of auto pilot, 90 ghouls, 21 GG and 7 raise dice. I thought about hiding, but decided against it, the dice didn't like me much, wich meant my saurus died horribly, I would ahev won though, if my engine could have killed more than 3 dire wolves with 3 dino attacks, 5 skinks, AND 2 burning allignments, if I'd killed 4, my engine would ahve charged his 10 ghouls with 2 vampires, including general, in the flank, (we rolled the dice for fun, and the general would have gone PUFF). 5-15 battle 3, against a balanced daemon list, units counted half, characters double, I got the upper hand early on, and picked his army appart without loosing anything but 10 ranked skinks. He was hard to take points from though, 2 units of plaguebearers, 2 nurgle heralds, yikes. 18-2- Battle 4, messenger scenario against wood elves, Saurus sure can take a lot of punishment with help from jar jar binks on the engine. My BSB went completely lumberjack, and ate treekin and dryads alike, (0+ save is so full of cheese ). My messengers got off the table, and i managed to eat his, terradons took 2. 20-0 battle 5, dirty daemons, 36 horrors in one unit, plague bearers, flamers, 8 flesh hounds, khorne jugger, 5 screamers and a but load of furies, eeww. I went for it, as I always do , my engine got off burning alignment on his jugger, my BSB grinded his dogs, and everything was looking dandy, then the dice again betrayed me, me BSB died in the second combat round, (statistickly it should have taken 12! ), which cost me my engine, (which didn't manage to kill the khorne jugger), and without DD I was pretty much done for, i did what i could to scratch back points. 14-6 Regards Mathias
The Sword of Stikring is a better option than the Scimitar. +1 to hit means you will hit many units on 2+. That is statistically the same as having 2 more atx, but for half the cost. I agree about the Horned One. I love it for an Oldblood, but for a Scar-vet, you a better of with a Cold-One. Spliting up you Krox to put into skink units is something to think about, especially as a unit for your Scar-vets to join. Or even combine the krox with both your skink ranks, making 1 unit of 3 Krox & 24 Skinks with full command. This is a very nice unit to have a Cold One mounted General and/or BSB in. Overall, though, pretty nice lst
