I'm still not entirely sold on this list, but here's what I've got.

Scar-Vet - Cold one, Scimitar of the sun resplendent, light armor, shield 163p
Saurus Warriors x12 - spears, shield, standard 156p
Saurus Warriors x12 - spears, shield, standard 156p
Cold One Cavalry x5 - spears, shield, standard (Jaguar Standard) Musician - 230p
Cold One Cavalry x5 - spears, shield, standard, musician - 205
    Skink Skirmishers x12 - Blowpipe, brave 90 p
    Total - 1000 points

There are a couple of things I'm not sure about in this list. First, I kinda want a Skink Priest in there at level two. Any suggestions on what would be best to sacrifice to get those extra points?
Second, I'm wondering if I shouldn't have gone with two small saurus units, but combined them into a bigger one.
Likewise, I'm wondering if two groups of skirmishers would be a good idea.

Any input would be appreciated. We're playing tomorrow.

Well, It's not a bad list just needs a few little edits, and then I'll give some advice which is purely optional and such...

Scar-Vet - Cold one, Scimitar of the sun resplendent, light armor, shield (It saves you like 3 points to do sword of battle and maiming shield over the scimitar. But this setup is fine.)

Saurus Warriors x12 - spears, shield, standard (In 1000 points, these small units can work just fine.)

Saurus Warriors x12 - spears, shield, standard (Perhaps make one only 11 saurus since your vet will be in the unit, and that will save you 12 points.)

Cold One Cavalry x5 - spears, shield, standard (Jaguar Standard) Musician (These are ok, though I perfer to field 6 wide with warbanner.)

Cold One Cavalry x5 - spears, shield, standard, musician (I'm not crazy about double cold ones, though it is viable. Personally I'd drop this whole unit and get your Lvl 2 priest with Diadem of Power and a scroll.)

Skink Skirmishers x12 - Blowpipe, brave (The Brave is useless, drop him. And you could drop this whole unit to 10 skirmishers. You could also if you perfer to instead field two units of 10 cohorts to redirect charges better from your saurus blocks.)

Not sure how many points that leaves you with if you get the priest over the extra 5 cold ones, but if your able to a salamander with extra handler would help bring some of the kill power back from loosing the 5 cold ones. Plus a salamander should do pretty good against orcs, template will hit the blocks pretty well, and panic tests will definately help.

    Good Luck...

Love the saurus heavy theme! Teach the enemy to fear the Old Ones TRUE warriors!

Id advise against taking out 1 saurus from a unit, as it pretty much binds you into where your character will go. I personally only leave a space if the character is custom tailored for that unit (eg. Slann, a Scar Vet with Sword of the Hornet for my 1 big saurus block etc.) If you keep your units as is you don't have to decide where your character goes until the end of your deployment, meaning you can place him where he'll be needed most, sure, one of your units will have a hanger-on out the back, but an extra wound on your unit before you start loosing combat effectiveness is never a bad thing!

If you wanted some points, Id drop the command and magic banner from both units of Cav. and, as SlannofItza mentioned, shrink the Skirmishers to 10 and drop the champion.

This frees up around 105 points for your Priest or whatever else you would like, Id probably suggest a 2nd unit of Skirmishers though, or maybe a salamander (templates + block infantry army like Orcs and Goblins = lots of fun!)
