Hey all, pretty new to collecting Lizardmen, and I tend to go for the models I like to build up a list rather than building a highly competitive list (will be just me an a few friends that use Dwarfs, Chaos, Dark Elves). Pretty set on a 500 point list as follows Hero Scar-Veteran - Light Armour, Enchanted Shield Core 15 Saurus Warriors - Spears, Standard 12 Skinks - Blowpipes Special Bastiladon - Solar Engine Just need some tips on expanding this to a 1k list, thoughts so far are Hero Scar-Veteran - Light Armour, Enchanted Shield Core 19 Saurus Warriors - Spears, Standard 12 Skinks - Blowpipes Special Bastiladon - Solar Engine Stegadon Rare Salamander Hunting Pack Leaves me around 161 points left to play with, id quite like some Chameleon Skinks as I love the models but was thinking id need more Saurus, thoughts? Thanks All
First off: welcome to the jungle! Glad you were able to find us through all the other jungly parts of the internet As for the list: Looks pretty solid! Though I am not sure you can use the Solar engine on the Bastiladon without a spellcaster, IIRC you need a caster. Unfortunately, the bastiladon needs the engine to be really effective. Now it's just a 150 point, terror-causing, thunderstomping monster. Which isn't all too bad actually, but nothing amazing either. The 161 points are enough for a unit of 6-8 chameleon skinks and some extra bodies on your Saurus. Maybe you could add in an extra handler for the Salamander as well, so you don't run the risk of him eating all your handlers and going crazy in a single turn.. Overall, it is just a solid and fun list. I think every unit will do quite well on the battlefield, in particular the chameleons will be very good. Have fun! The Hunted
Oh wasnt aware I needed a spellcaster to use the Solar engine? (also based on a few other lists using it without one?) thought as its a bound spell and each turn you roll for number of power dice regardless of casters in your army? Might need a replan on it if you cant use it without a caster . The extra Handler sounds like a idea, and was thinking of increasing the Sauras up to 24 then maybe 6 Chameleons and see what points I have left, maybe a small magic item for the hero?
You shouldn't need a caster to use the engine, you should still have to roll for winds of magic even if you don't have spellcasters (you just can't cast anything without one of course but you'd still technically get the dice). In this case you'd spend the dice on the bastilidon's bound spell. If you are going to run a smaller number of saurus, less than 20-24ish, you may want to use them with hand weapon and shield for the parry save. Since saurus almost always attack last there's a chance that your extra ranks will get wiped out before they get to use many of their extra spear attacks. A block of 20 saurus is good for 1000 points though. With your extra points you might want to think about grabbing a skink priest, and maybe gear up the scar vet a bit more. Giving him a Dawnstone will greatly increase his duarbility and a great weapon increases his killing power (at the cost of the shield but you can give one of the magic armours to compensate). I run an Oldblood with stegadon helm, light armour, dawnstone and great weapon in my 1000 point list. He's a lot of points (over 200) but in the 3 games I've played with him he's killed 3 enemy generals and hasn't died himself yet. Looks like a fun list though, two big monsters at 1000 points can do some nasty damage, just watch out for cannons!
