So next weekend I'm playing in a team battle of 2000 points each side. I’m teamed with high elves and we are playing against the coalition of Velveeta ; Chaos warriors and Bretonnia…..don’t ask me how they justified this one, I think someone shouldn’t get the blessing as they have been bad little frenchies. I have not seen my teammates list yet, but I’m going to strongly recommend her running maximum bolt throwers and a unit of Dragon Princes. Skink Priest, Engine, 2nd level - 435 Plaque of Tepok (making him a lvl 3 for all intensive purposes) War Drum of Xahutec Skink chief, General - 124 Staff of the lost sun Terradon 3 Terradon Riders 90 2X10 Skink skirmishers 140 2 Razordons extra handlers 160 Razordons and chief unit are there to take out Bret archers and march block. Engine to draw the tin cans out for the bolt throwers as I pelt them with spells. Skinks do what they do. I still have 51 points floating, Im not married to the list so feel free to offer advice against this dastardly duo.
hmm... Its difficult to suggest much without knowing what your ally will be running, a couple of thoughts against your opponents though - - Salamanders would make a better option than Razordons IMO because of all the armoured troops on the field - One thing you'll have to tailor your lists to fight is a lot of knights. Even if the Mortals player doesn't bring any your still looking at some very nasty potential from the Brets. Anti-armour in any form is a must. Your biggest concern, I believe will be those lance formations, the armour and sheer hitting power on the charge will cause havoc to most things it hits... It depends on your play style, but Id prefer a more defensive lure/ counter charge army with good magic defence (Mortals can get some nasty magic power) and shooty goodness courtesy of a few Bolt throwers...
Get your HE ally to take the banner of sorcery with his dragon princes and take a LvL2 who can choose his own spells so that he can take metal (rule of burning iron and spirit of the forge) to stay in a unit with the gunline. Then he should take bolt throwers, some core, the DPs and a unit or two of seven swordmasters without command. The bret's wont have any offensive magic and neither are likely to have much offensive shooting. Swordmasters seven-wide can get charged head on by a lance and butcher them with loads of ASF S6 WS6 attacks, their only vulnerability is shooting and magic. For your list replace the razordons with a single salamander+handler. I would drop the skink chief and a unit of skink skinrmishers and replace them with 18 spear saurus with standard and musician as well as another unit of three terradons. Use the terradons to drop rocks on the support units (maurauder horsemen or mounted yeomen if they have them - it is good against reasonably valuable low armour units, not knights) and marchblock the enemy with them so that they take longer to get to your line. Swordmasters should chop them up and with a lvl2+3PD with metal and a lvl3 with a 50% chance of uranons (no armour saves) and a 50% chance of comet as well as bolt throwers the enemy should be in serious trouble.
