AoS 1st Battle in AoS

Hi All,

as posted a week or two ago I was at the point of losing my AoS battle virginity.
But this ended in an anticlimax ;)

So before building up the tension again i want my army list to run by you guys, to prevent a disappointment when it is time to perform ;)

We agreed on a 1K battle, and because of it will be my first time I packed a list together from the models that i already own:

Allegiance: Seraphon

LEADERS:
Scar Veteran on Carnosaur (240)
- General
- War Spear
Scar Veteran on Cold one (100)
Saurus Astrolith Bearer (160)
Skink Starpriest (80)

UNITS:
5 x Saurus Knights (90)
- Lances
5 x Saurus Knights (90)
- Lances
5 x Saurus Knights (90)
- Lances
10 x Saurus Warriors (100)
- Spears

BATTALIONS:
Firelance Starhost (150)

TOTAL: 1000/1000

I had read a lot of times that Firelance Starhost might not be worth the points costing it, but i think i like to try it(other suggestions are welcome though)

Let me know what you guys think.

I like Firelance at 1k.

Your Carno and ScV-Co will have to do the bulk of your army's work in combat. I would consider taking a damage artifact on one of the two. Either a +1 Damage or +1 rend will be the most universally helpful. Alternatively you can take the Sword of Judgement on your ScV Carno and you will wreck monsters and heroes. This can also help your Carno degrade a little better as the warspear is unaffected by damage suffered.

If you drop anything I would lose the Astrolith Bearer. D3 CCP and Proud Defiance are both nice, but you aren't likely to get much use of it at 1k. If you have 4 Razordons I would swap them in place of the SAB.

Another change you should make is to have your Skink Starpriest be your General. This is so that you can take the Master of Star Rituals trait. It essentially allows your Skink Starpriest to double up as a reg Skink Priest as well. This will enable you to give a unit (your Carno) rerolls to saves, runs, and charges.

I personally would advise him to drop the warriors. While warriors can be ferocious in large blocks, 10 of them won’t be very helpful in combat, especially with such a mobile army. Other than that army list looks pretty good.

I am not that familiar wit the artifacts, i do not own a Core Rule-Book... neither do I (yet) have the Generals handbook(waiting on the release of 2019)

Seeing that i need to drop 100 points i am thinking the following.

1. Dropping the warriors
If doing so i'll and up with a nice cavalry army but a skink starpriest and an Astrolith bearer as infantry.
Leaving the Bearer near to useless. So i might drop him as well, opening up another 160 points.
The idea about the 4 Razordons from @LizardWizard, who else ;), seems nice.

I have to buy them

2. Dropping the Astrolith Bearer
This way I free up an extra 60 points to reuse, not sure what to pick though.
1 Razordon ;)

3. Dropping the Scar-vet on Cold One
this will sort the points problem right away. It means i'll have one heavy hitter less(or am i to optimistic about his stats?)

I'm still waiting to find time to battle. So i can adjust the list for a while until i think i have it ;)

Sorry @Imrahil, I feel like I messed up your list. You could just agree to play a 1,100 point battle?

I haven't played much actual AoS either (so take any of this with a grain of salt). I think if you drop the Scar-Vet on Cold One, you lose some nice synergy with your Knights. And if you drop your Saurus warriors, I feel like you don't have many troops. What about just dropping the Astrolith and picking up either the Razordon, a unit of Skinks, or even some Endless Spells (maybe Soulsnare Shackles & Prismatic Pallisade)?
 
After taking a closer look at the battalion description i noticed that for the Firelance Starhost it says Scar Veteran either on a Carnosaur or a Cold one.
Playing and reading around on the Oldblood vs Scar Veteran on Carnosaur i prefer the Oldblood's stats and abilities.

And since i messed up the points count :p

SO: instead of 40 i have 100 spare points to spent

I see a lot of options...

- Option 1: Extra unit of Saurus Warriors(990/1000pts)

- Option 2: Extra Scar Veteran on Cold one(1000/1000pts)

- Option 3: Two extra Razordons(1000/1000pts)

- Option 4: Ditch the Saurus Warriors and add a Trogolodon and a Razordon(1000/1000pts)

- Option n: ....

O mehn, this will take a lot of thinking ;)
