My first game with lizards, and I find myself fighting... Lizardmen? How did this happen? What grave incident incited such a civil war? Hmmm.... Anyway, marching to the field of battle I have: Skink Priest (General): lvl 2, mounted on an engine w/diadem of power and a dispel scroll Skink Chief (BSB): Lt. Armour, shield, and javelins, w/Haunchi's blessed totem 3 Kroxigors 12 Temple Guard: w/ full command, champ has Sword of the Hornet 12 Saurus: Musician, Standard, and spears 12 Saurus: Musician, Standard, and spears 16 Skinks w/ 2 krox's: musician and standard ... and my opponent's army (to the best of my memory): skink priest on engine scar vet BSB w/fear causing flag of scariness scar vet general w/halberd 12 templeguard w/full command 15 saurus w/ standard, and musician 15 saurus w/spears, standard, and musician X2 12 skink skrimishers He deploys and goes first, saurus units with guard between them. skinks on the flanks and engine right behind the templeguard. both scarvets are with the temple guard. The whole force is on the (my) right side. I have krox's front and center of my deployment zone. left of them is the temple guard, then one saurus block, then the engine, then the other saurus block. My skink unit is on the far right. I roll celestial shield and second sign, he rolls shield and comet. Turn 1 & 2: He advances, wheeling his army to face mine, since we've effectively started in opposite corners. One of his skirmisher units moves downfield to some ruins. The other moves up, gets fried by burning alignment, and turns tail. The skink priests glare at each other as they wash on magic. turn 3: One of his saurus blocks charges my temple guard. The guard hold. The stegadon and the kroxigors make like a hammer and anvil and charge opposite flanks of that saurus block. The saurus are quickly turned into to a fine red mist. Meanwhile, the engine kills 4 temple guard. turn 4: His engine flank charges my engine, killing the priest and crew, however monster reaction makes the steg unbreakable. His temple guard charge what's left of mine, break them, then cut them to pieces. Meanwhile, my skinks pull the do-or-die charge against his spear saurus in the front. The skinks decide to be AMAZING and break the saurus but don't catch them. We had to stop after that due to time, but it came out to a draw. As it was, the game still could have gone either way. His skink skirmishers that had run rallied on turn 3, and by turn 4 were in a position to flank charge one of my saurus units, which were themselves in the flank of his engine, which was in the flank of my engine, which was unbreakable. Meanwhile my other saurus unit would have been facing his remaining temple guard w/scar vets. That left my skinks hoping the saurus they just broke continued to run. Either way they'd be charging, if for no other reason than having the chance to take some saurus with them.
Awesome, sounds like your skrox unit pulled it out for you at the end. Can you tell us exactly what happened in the combat? I.E. number of wounds per side, how the saurus failed the leadership roll etc.
My bad! Just goes to show how often I use Temple Guard! Fighting Lizardmen with Lizardmen sounds like a tough fight indeed!
That quarter of the field was basiclally the SKrox, 12 skink skrimishers sitting in a ruin, and the 14 saurus with spears. Everything else on both sides was busy elsewhere. I could have charged the skirmishers earlier, but decided 1)the skinks were probably going to run and would most likely get away and 2)a failed charge would have meant a flank charge from saurus on the SKrox. Anyway, the SKrox are 6 skinks wide and charge with 15 skinks (one died earlier), the skink chief BSB, and both kroxigors still. He makes his fear check for the krox. The kroxigors kill 1 saurus, the skinks kill 2, and the chief kills 1, so the skinks hit like a freight train while the kroxigors gingerly poked saurus with great weapons. The saurus kill 5 skinks and don't bother with the kroxigors or skink chief. So the SKrox have 3 ranks, standard, BSB, numbers, and 4 wounds; while the saurus have 1 rank, standard, and 5 wounds. The saurus rolled a 6 or 7 (I forget) with no BSB in sight (besides mine). I was an inch short on the pursuit distance.
