8th Ed. 2.5K WD Slann in TG Bunker - lacking enough punch?

    Good evening all

    This is my first ever post on the forum, and first ever Lizardmen list so i'm looking for some wisdom.

    My main concerns with the list below is whether it might be wise to swap out one of the Ancient Stegadons for Gor Rok (Or similarly kitted out Old Blood/Scar Vet), whose presence in the Saurus unit would make them a more combat capable and resilient anvil. The remaining points could then be spent on a Salamander.

    I've also thought about swapping an Ancient Stegadon for a couple of Scar Veteran cowboys with the usual net builds.

    The only issue I have with these swaps is that I feel in order to run monsters effectively you need multiples of them to saturate the board so WM don't auto delete them (plus, the Steagadon models are beautiful IMO).

    I've also considered replacing one of the Ancient Stegadons with 2 salamander packs and then maybe using the remaining points for some more Chameleon skins or a bare bones Scar Veteran to go in the Saurus Warrior block.

    I think you're short on core tax. 2500 / 4 = 625.

    I think your core comes in at 570.

    For 625 exactly you can take 35 saurus with full command and the three skink skirmisher units. Not sure where you'll get the points from though.

    Never played Gor rok so can't comment on him, but personally I'd almost always take a couple of scarvet cowboys as they can do so much.

    Yeah you were right, I forgot to include another unit of 10 Skink Skirmishers with Javelins (They are now included in he list above)

    I like the idea of running a pair of Scarvet Cowboys, what do you think of these builds?

    Scar Vet, Cold One, Light Armour, Great Weapon, Dawnstone, Dragonhelm (145)

    Any suggestions on how to run a Cowboy effectively with the Crown of Command?

    Secondly do you think my Slann build would be better with Harmonic Convergence, Channeling Staff, Ironcurse Icon and the Obsidian Loadstone rather than my current build? I feel it would support the Temple Guard bunker more whilst generating more PD to get of all the signature spells.

    Scar vet, cold one, GW, AofD - Spot on.
    second build up to you, but I like:
    Scarvet, cold one, steg helm, luckstone, GW. Gives him good AS with one reroll, +1 to his Toughness, D3 impact hits and the GW (plus 5 points to spend on an extra magic thingy if you want)

    I've never used Crown of Command, so can't comment.

    I usually build my slann with becalming cogitation, harmonic convergence and chanelling staff. Then either Focus of Mystery or Wandering Deliberations depending on how I feel! Any extra stuff (like Ironcurse Icon) I'd say is down to you and what you expect to play against.

    Only other thing I've thought about (and no idea how you fit it in) would be a salamander or two, particularly if you are facing something squishy.

    I've amended my list taking into consideration your advice.

    I still have a few questions though. How do you rate Resevoir of Eldritch Energy? I figured it could work well with the Harmonic Convergnce/Channeling Staff combination to produce some more PD. It could be swapped for Becalming Cogitiations?

    Looks a lot better imo . Just drop a couple of temple guard. Their power is all in the front rank anyway.

    What is it that you like about WD? You might find a lore which does the same job, allowing you to save he points or grab resiviour (which is definitely a good combo with harmonic). I can't recommend light highly enough. You could then run the skink on beasts, harder to cast Wildform ofc and needs more dice but you are generating those two extra from Slann upgrades.

    If you are playing any specific scenarios you might want to drop two skirmish units and replace them with ranked cohorts wih banners.
