Hi guys,

Is a wizard, who failed to dispell that turn, allowed to use a dispell scroll to 'dispell a spell' that same turn?

I could not find a solid answer......

Hope you can help me with this one......

Thanks!!!!

If I remer right if you roll a 1 or 2 on your dice you can't make any more dispell attempt with that mage this turn,
and you only get one attempt at each spell, so no throwing dispell dice failing for that spell then using a scroll...

Somebody correct me if I'm remembering the wrong edition.

n810 is correct.

Per the rule book "a wizard who has a dispel scroll can read it instead of attempting to dispel the spell by using dispel dice." So since using the scroll takes the place of rolling to dispel, if the wizard isn't allowed to roll, he can't use the scroll either.

On page 35, if the wizard fails a dispel roll, "the Wizard is so preoccupied by his collapsing dispel that he is unable to attempt another later in the phase". So putting these rules together, if a wizard fails a dispel roll, he cannot use a dispel scroll later that phase.

The 1 or 2 n810 mentioned only applies to casting attempts.

If you fail a dispell attempt it doesn't matter how high/low you rolled! That wizard is not allowed to dispel any other spell in that magic phase. Very important!
It's true that this mage can't use a scroll this phase either (confirmed by FAQ).

Can you actually not dispel anything if you don't have any wizards?

You can always try to dispel, but if you have no wizards (or your wizards have already failed a dispel roll earlier in the phase) then you get no wizard level bonus to your dispel roll. All you have is a straight dice roll.

This is sometimes referred to as a "army dispel".

A natural dispel roll of 1 or 2 does automatically fail, just the same as with casting. Check page 35 of the BRB under "Dispel Value".

Alright, thanks a lot!
