So, the game against WoC was postponed (you might have seen the list I posted) but many thanks to Ripper Derek anyways Next up Dwarfs! Only 2000 pts this time and I've never ever faced them.. ugh! So maybe you want to help me tailoring my list? ^^ The league has no comp whatsoever so I decided to bring my own artillery in form of Tetto'ekko. I figuered since I only have one Lore an Engine might go a long way, although the Steg obviously will have a big bullseye on his head... hopefully big enough to distract from the Sallies and the main threat: my character bus. Add in some Chamos and Rippers for warmachine hunting and a Saurus horde to march across the middle. Lords 246 Oldblood, general CO, GW, Armor of Destiny, Dawnstone, Ironcurse Icon Heros 356 Scarvet, BSB CO, GW, Armor of Fortune, Luckstone Tetto'ekko Core 515 35 Saurus, Hw+S, FC 20 Cohorts Special 440 10 Chamos 3 Ripperdactyls 6 SCOR Rare 440 2 Sallies Ancient Steg, Engine of the Gods What do you think? Mind that the whole list is open to debate (apart from Tetto, I really wanna try him).
Looks good, sallies are great vs dwarves (20mm bases, big units), Tetto is king of the comet and can shatter a dwarf castle on his own. You should do well, just make sure your rippers are out of range when comet goes off or they will evaporate
I like tetto in this situation as well; a comet will definitely disrupt his castle, they won't ever move their war machines either. As long as you're aggressive you stand the best chance of winning just be smart during your deployment and you'll be fine, but he might out deploy you with that huge block of saurus. You might want to consider figuring out a way to break up that big target or get into combat as fast as possible with your COR, rippers and chameleons. Good luck.
Game will be tomorrow. Just came to think, does it make sense to take halberds instead of GWs against Dwarfs? They have I2 if I'm not mistaken and T4. Well their Lords will probably have T5 so I'm unsure... Any thougts or experience on that?
You need 9 Chamo skinks to consistently take out artillery in 1 round of fire. Even then it's not guaranteed, your chances are only around 75% @ 18 shots. Also, I would recommend the Ironcurse Icon over the potion of foolhardiness. If you make even 1 ward save on a COR it makes its points back x6.
Thx for the comments. I'll stick with GW than, change the potion for the Icon and drop some Saurus to get more Chamos. I was actually planning on taking the Icon, don't know why I forgot about it...
Against dwarves you can expect to fight 50+ ranked great weapons. Quarrelers - 2x10 Xbow dwarves that reform into a 5x4 flanking block with GW. Hammerers - WS5 S4 heavy armor great weapons, stubborn with a lord. Dwarf lords have a 125 point magically allowance and are rock hard. You don't see GW that often, for example you can make a 1+/4++ with +1 to-hit +1 S +1 I easily enough. GW warriors - WS4 S3 5++ and cheaper than a saurus Longbeards are identical to hammerers but they serve as a psuedo BSB against panic/fear/terror. You might see the hammerers as counts-as LBs at this point level rather than a BSB thane. Halberds will let you go before GW and you don't need S7 for anything in the army. Cheaper too.
Minor Loss. I was in his face turn 2 so no need to get comets of, lol. Unluckily my General and BSB broke combat and decided to flee 2" with CO and swiftstride... d'oh! I cleared all of his army apart from his horde of Longbeards with Lord and BSB.... which safed him enough points for his victory. Funny ending: I had last turn, his huge horde of GW Dwarfs was down to 2 models. Tetto'ecko was the only one who could reach them so I decided to 6 dice chain lightening... killing the 2 Dwarfs and having Tetto'ecko sucked into the warp xD
Bummer on the chain lightning, but that's a gamble worth taking if it gets you the draw... Though I wonder if you should have just 3 or 4 diced the thunderbolt since it was only the one unit you could have effected anyhow. Same spell just no jump on a 3+ and a cast on a 10... Maybe it could have saved you. Then again sometimes you can only get spells off on dwarves when they don't care or they go off irresistably. Take care.
Had to be chainlightening because I had no line of sight Thunderbolt is magic missile, chainlightening is direct damage
Hammerers are stubborn regardless of the lord. When a lord is present in the unit they are also immune to fear/terror AFAIK.
