Was messing around in army builder, and made up this Carnosaur list, seems solid, yea it's definitively light on Magic, but that's kinda the idea. I figure the enemy has one or two turns, of magic before they are in some nasty close combats. So let me know what you think. Edited for clarity: 2000 - Lizardmen Roster Saurus Oldblood, General Carnosaur Light Armour Fencer's Blades Helm of Discord Talisman of Endurance 25 Saurus Warriors (full command) 25 Saurus Warriors, with spears (full command) 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers Skink Brave <- (leftover points) (skink priest will probaly join this unit too) 2 Salamander Hunting Pack 6 Skink Handlers 6 Cold One Cavalry, (full command) Standard of Discipline (+1 LD banner) Saurus Scar-Veteran (goes in cold one unit) Great Weapon Cold One Armour of Fortune Luckstone Venom of the Firefly Frog Skink Priest, (Level 2 Upgrade) Cube of Darkness The Lore of Heavens Total Roster Cost: 1996
I think the reason you aren't getting many responses is because it looks like a solid list. Admittedly running a carnosaur in a 2000 pt list might hinder you points wise more than anything, I think that if you were trying to find the right list for 2000 pts with a carnosaur this was it. If you want to take this list up a notch I would use the Cube of D. instead of the dispel scroll, you would have to move some points around but I think it is almost necessary. Like you said they only have about 2 good turns before combat hits, so you should shut down a magic phase that way it only seems like 1 turn. Other than that I would suggest dropping the carnosaur BUT if this was meant to be a carno list then by all means keep it!
Ahhh good point about the cube. Yea the whole point is to field a Carnie, There aren't any Drawf or Empire players in my circle of oponents, so no cannons to speak of. This make the Carnie a bit more of a viable choice.
Ive just got the carnie as well, So im looking to craft a 2k / 2500 list for him As a carnie list is meant to be combat heavy, I would have to say, beef up the Saurus, Id make them 2 units of 25, and for the points I would actually drop one of the salamanders, If you're running and gunning into combat, the sallies wont get much shooting in, and Id rather have another rank of saurus. For the magic defense, Yeah, the cube would be a good idea. Something that Im planning on doing is using the Engine of the gods, Giving the skink priest another Level on his dispels and the D6 S4 hits no armor saves isnt bad, and a big monster running around with a wizard on top might detract your enemy from the Carnosaur just enough to keep him safe on the way in Just my 2 cents, the list still does look pretty damn solid. Let us know how it gets on
If I recal correctly it is very dificult to fit a Carnie and a EotG in the same 2000 pt list without going over the character limit. Edit: Maybe it was some other reason I couldn't fit it in the list.... I forget.
It's possible, 500pts is 25% of 2000 and a basic EotG is 355, then the OB w/ carno is less than 500 i'm sure. remember that EotG is a hero choice and carnosaur is lord so they take up 2 separate slots.
Well I'm not really a fan of the helm of discord. It just seems like it would not be that useful or effective. If you are in base to base contact with an enemy character, you should do pretty well in fighting them anyway (unless we're talking some big bag Chaos daemon or something). So I would suggest the following build for your Carnie: Oldblood Carnosaur Fencers Blades Armor of Fortune Dawnstone This gives you the 5+ ward save, 1+ AS (with rerolls), Inititave 10 and 6 attacks and all slightly cheaper than your build. Also why the discipline banner in with your Cold Ones? Is Leadership 8 with coldblood not going to be enough for that unit? I would rather put the sun standard of chotec and protect that unit from missile fire until they get into combat. I generally find my problem with CoC is getting them to the fight alive, not necessarily panicking and running away. Maybe alternatively getting the Huanchi bless totem to ensure a nice long range charge to get into combat all the sooner. Also I would drop the venom on the Scarvet and get an ironcurse icon instead. This helps your CoC a little bit against warmachines. I've never understood why people put poison on a high strength unit anyway, you already are going to wound pretty handily and beat armor down a bit. Poison is meant for low strength units to wound high toughness targets (hence why your skinks use poison, not your saurus!).
