So this is a 2000 point list just for fun. Heroes: Skink Chief on an Ancient Stegadon w/ Stegadon War-spear Skink Priest lvl 2 on an Engine of the Gods w/ Rod of Storms Skink Priest lvl 2 on an Engine of the Gods w/ Plaque of Tepok Core: 15 Saurus with Spears and Full Command 15 Saurus with Spears and Full Command 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers Special: Stegadon Total 1995 I made this army after first seeing the army book and joking that you could never max out stegadons for what ever size your playing but that is would be fun to try and to play the Jurassic Park theme music during the turn. As for deployment the saurus would take the center with the non-EotG stegs to each side with the EotG beside them and the skinks would be on the far outside as harassment.
this will be a very good list if played correctly, but if just one of those stegadons goes a big chunk of your army is gone , and things begin to crumble.
I'd get rid of both saurus units and replace them with like three units of 10 ranked skinks and three units of terradons. You don't need anvils, you need complete movement control so that you pick the combats and pick them in your favour. You also need to be bale to take out war machines desperately and terradons do that as well as providing a way to remove enemy light cav (ie even more movement control) and marchblock. This way the only way that they can get any real points is by killing a steg as everything else costs less than 100 points, but you control movement and therefore combat, while an engine somewhat counters heavy shooting. Charging things with two stegadons (sometimes with warspear), then blasting with an engine should obliterate almost anything, and if you get comet the with luck you should be able to do considerable damage beforehand anyway.
Wow. I was blown away by this post. That's some of the best advice I have seen. I never thought about using stegadons as a points denial method, and then harassing your enemy with good ol' worthless skinks... Thank you for your wisdom Dumbledore!!!
Im leaving the saurus in for now. Terradon riders are also going to be included as soon as i get the rest of the army painted. (if i buy to much out of the block nothing ever gets done) But i do believe that the army does need the Saurus anvil to be if nothing else an anchor and hinge for the army to swing around, without them you get much more mobility but lose a huge pivot point. And in the end i like the Saurus models to much to remove them from the army.
