i just started to use skroxigor units, and i say: USE THEM!
expecially with life's augments, they will be very dangerous to high toughness\armoured units, cannot be stomped, cause fear, have movement 6, and they are often cheaper than saurus warriors. Only make sure they're in your bsb range, even though they use to win in combat they have only 7 ld. With the points of the saurus with spears you can have a unit of 2 kroxigors, 40 skinks and the standard bearer, or 3 kroxigors, 29 skinks and the standard bearer. With life skinks will have toughness 6, and you're enemy cannot touch the kroxigors in close combat befeore he kills them. You don't need the plaque of divine protection because he must join the temple guard, make him loremaster, drop the plaque of tepok and give him a dispell scroll, so you can drop the skink caddy too. I never give my units the FC, only the standard bearer, and there's no reason to play ranked skinks without kroxigors, expecially in small units. Skirmishers are good, but there's no reason to play more than 10 per unit. Kroxigors aren't so good without skinks, i think, but try them if you want. 20 temple guards are enough with a life slann, and i often play them with the razor standard: they're quite good against high armoured units, even though skinks+kroxigors are better. A unit of 5 chameleons is quite small, I think. 2 salamanders are good, but i'd prefer 3... or 4. (2 are enough, but give them the extra handler)
with the points left you could improve the amount of saurus, get a scar vet, get a stegadon or terradons

i have used skroxigor units in the past and what always seems to happen is my opponent would kill all the skinks and have huge combat res against me. the krox alone would go next to my temple guard and then flank and cancle out ranks but still have killing power. plus i would rather cast flesh to stone on a unit of saurus or trmple guard than skrox. I use the DPOP so the slann is well protected from fireballs of cannons. also the fc i think is essential, i get swift reforms and the extra attack does come in handy. As for the skinks I wanted to run them in units of 12 because they would be the guys running around outside my BSB ange so they have crappy ld so with 12 of then you have to kill 4 to cause panic. And as for sallies I want to invest to maney points i the because they can be extremely helpful but also extremely usless with the random range. thats the basic logic behind my list

the slann already has a 2+ look out sir, a 4+ ward save and 5 wounds, and if you use life he can have regeneration too and restore a wound per spell.
but if you feel good with the plaque, use it
