I just picked up a few of the newer CoC models and I'm thinking of taking them to my local monthly tournament. Much like the Spanish Inquisition, nobody will see them coming! (I'm also hoping that they become cheaper in the new book, so I can play them more) This is the list I'm working with right now: Nasty Slann (Mystery, Rumination, Higher State, Soul of Stone), Cupped Hands, Bane Head Skink Priest w/ Dispel Scroll Scar Vet BSB on Cold One w/ Lt Armor, Dragonhelm, Dawnstone, Great Weapon, Venom of Firefly Frog 11 Cold One Cav w/ Full Command & War Banner (Scar Vet goes in this unit) 30 Skinks & 2 Kroxigor w/ Full Command 1x 10 Skink Skirmishers with Javs and Shields and Champion (Slann joins this unit) 2x 10 Skink Skirmishers with Blowpipes 2x 5 Chameleon Skinks 1 Unit of 2 Salamanders (6 Crew total) I'm a big fan of the Lore of Metal (and I've been pushing it lately in the forums) but I think I'm going to go with Life for this army. If I can't keep the CoC alive, then there isn't really much hope for the list. I anticipate seeing Chaos Warriors, Beastmen, Dark Elves, Goblins (A Spider themed list), High Elves, and maybe Chaos Dwarfs at the tournament. As for a plan, I think I want to double team units with the Skrox and Cav and hopefully win a bunch of combats. Use Dwellers to soften up some meaty targets or take out war machines (and maybe put a hurting on a wizard with the banehead and miscast) and keep the Saurus at +2 or +4 toughness. I'll probably hold off on casting Throne of Vines until I trigger the Cupped Hands by 6 dicing Dwellers a few times and use the Soul of Stone to try to maximize the damage it causes. What do you guys think? Should I tone down the Slann? Maybe try to fit another Scar Vet into the CoC? Is it worth trying to get Icon Curse Icon in the CoC?
Only Criticism I would give, and I hat to give it, is that I would loose the Cold one rides in favor of a block of saurus, more sally's, a steg... really anything else. With 8th edition and steadfast, cavalry really just sucks for the points it cost... and I like the cold one riders my self... got about 20 of em... never really use em.
Metal and fire, awesome lores when you need a change from the usual. In regards to the list I would cut the CoC back to a unit of 5 with the Jaguar standard and use them as an annoying flanking unit that has a bit of punch. Great for chasing down fleeing units and hitting warmachines. I would also drop the Skrox unit and replace it with a saurus block and extra skirmishers. It's annoying having an awesome unit like the CoC and not be able to use it
