I have a game tonight against HE. I am pretty sure he is going to be bringing a combat dragon. How should I deal with that? Any suggestions or changes? I think I am going to run this list: Saurus Oldblood LA, Carnosaur, HW, Skin 5+ Quetzl,Itzl,Tepok, Scimitar of the Sun Resplendent, Shield of the Mirror Pool Skink Priest HW, Lvl 1 Wizard (Heavens Only), Aquatic 2 Dispel Scroll Saurus Scar-Veteran GW,LA, HW, Skin 5+ Charm or the Jaguar, Sotek, Tepok Stegadon Salamanders Kroxigor 19 Saurus Warriors HW, Shield, Skin 6+, Predatory Fighters, Full Command Quetzl 19 Saurus Warriors HW, Shield, Skin 6+, Predatory Fighters, Full Command Quetzl 11 Skink Skirmishers HW, Blowpipe, Aquatic, Skirmish, Darts and Javs Poisoned 11 Skink Skirmishers HW, Blowpipe, Aquatic, Skirmish, Darts and Javs Poisoned 11 Skink Skirmishers HW, Blowpipe, Aquatic, Skirmish, Darts and Javs Poisoned
Don't know your plan with this list, but heres my tactic: Drop quetslspawning on one unit of saurus and give it warbanner insted. Then you can depoly your scar-vet in this unit and charge out when a beefy character is in range. Then drop both saurus champions and give bane head to one of your saurus characters. Other then that, I think your army could stand up against the worst of elfs. Quick question: How many sallys and krox in your list?
Thanks for the ideas. What does the Warbanner do? Should I put the Bane head on my old blood and taget his Dragon Prince? One Salamander 3 Kroxigor
Warbanner = +1 combat result. Besides, your scar-vet cant join the saurus block if he don't has the same spawning as the unit. A fully ranked saurus block with banner, war-banner and a scar-vet you should deffinetly have the upper hand when working out combat result. Bane head can work well on both your saurus characters. And yes, pick out the dragon prince. If he don't field tyrion... This looks well. Good luck and feel free to post the result of the game
I will definitely post my results. No I understand what you were saying with the warbanner. I was confused at first. Ok, I am pretty sure he is using a Dragon Prince, so I think I will give it to my Oldblood, because I really want my Carnosaur to eat his dragon. Also, I was thinking of running my Saurus in 6 wide blocks, but yout hink I should go 5 wide?
No, 6 files should be good as well. Didn't think about it actually... May Tepok protect you and Sotek bless your fighters with will and strenght. The lizardmen shall prevail!
Ok, I made the suggested changes and will have 2 units of 20 5x4 saurus. I know have 5 points leftover
I wish you could say more about your opponent's list because I have more experience with High Elves then any Lizardmen player should ever have, but if you're going up against a Star Dragon...I wish you luck. Most Dragon Princes usually have a sick save as well, so be VERY cautious. If it's a Star Dragon, then listen closely, that thing is very, VERY hard to kill. A Carnosaur doesn't stand a chance in hell against it, so don't waste your time chasing his dragon around, because he'll always out-manuever you. First, TAKE OUT THE BOLT THROWERS. These things are beyond dangerous, especially to your lizard. Next, you must get rid of his magic, with the right spells he can harm your army quickly, plus with them out of the way you'll have more room to fire magic. Next, unless your opponent is an idiot and allows Krox's or the Carnosaur to charge him, do NOT aim at him, focus every ounce of your power into crushing his army, because Star Dragon's are evil creatures and so are their damn riders. If it's a Moon Dragon, skinks can probably kill the dragon much less a Carno can hurt it cosiderably plus so can Kroxies. Remember that Always Strike First stuff, it's nasty business! The best way to beat High Elves is with lots of Skinks, and Salamanders! I cannot enough stress how amazing salamanders are against everything in the High Elf army! If you see Swordmasters, do not, I repeat, do NOT engage in combat unless there's no other choice, your saurus WILL lose. Be careful and beware of Pheonix Guard, that ward save is sick. Also, if he has Dragon Princes, those bastards are fast and they hit hard. May the Great Warrior Xhotel guide your blade and Quetzl protect your heart, destroy our enemies! Blood for the Serpent God!
Hmmm, that resplended scimitar is possibly unessesary. Considering you ride a carnosaur, and has equipted bane head agains Dragon Prince... I would have taken Blade of Realitys insted, to give a real character killer, and with 20 pts to go I would invest in more... I don't know, more skinks maybe. I really just comes down to point fideling now. You should plan for some backup tactick if things goes awry though.. If you met a shooty army, and your carno goes pop in round 1, you would like to close in melee as fast as possible. Huanchi banner might be an answare, or some terradons.. I don't know. I say; try your army as it is now, and figure out what worked and what did wrong after. Rule nr 1, Your army should be fun to play. It doesn't matter if you win or lose if you were bored all through the game. I love taking chances like Blood statuet of spite e.c. Ah, I'm too tired! Must sleep... must... slee.. zzzzz
Well it went poorly. I think it was a combination of everything. We each placed one terrain where we wanted it and then we scattered two pieces from the middle. He put a stupid hill in his deployment and I put a big pond in front of my deploy. Then we both scattered Trees close together on the flank but nearer my side with an alley through them. I hat the hill in the deploy zone because my skinks can't screen like they are supposed to I thought I would advance on both sides of the trees on his hill and take him out. He had: 3 Bolt Throwers Dragon Prince on a Star Dragon 2 sets of spearmen with bows Lvl 1 Mage 5 scout guys 12 mounted dragon princes I don't know if he could have picked a harder army. He went first and only one of his BT could see my Carno, so he got one wound on my Old Blood with it. I should have taken some sort of Ward save, but you think the Carno would take the wounds. He advanced his dragon close behind the trees. I was able to move some skinks out to where they could get some shots off, but I only got one wound out of like 30 shots. Then things got real bad for me, my cold blooded lizards couldn't pass leadership tests from his dragons terror and I had units leering real close to my board edge and dragon princes bearing down. Alson on this turn he shot my general off of his carno with another bolt shot, the only one that could see him. My Carno descided to whimper and I lost my Steggie and sally two of my skink units and my krox. There really isn't much more to say about this he charged my Carno with his Dragon and I had a chance to kill it, but it got double sixes on its saves. Isn't much more to say. The hight points. I killed three Dragon Princes with my Steggie. I got one wound on his Dragon with my Skinks. I killed 4 of the 5 scouts with my forked lighting. I eliminated one unit of spears and half strengthed the others. That was all the good news I had. Hindsight being 20/20, I think maybe I should have charged down the guy, but I think the range would have smoked me anyway and the dragon princes on horses and dragons would have killed my flanks anyway.
Ah, shooty elves I see.. Not easy to face with slow lizards. I was masacered a few weeks ago by a 2000 dark elves shooter army. Maybe some units of Terradons and a Slann instead of kroxies and Oldblood on carno would have worked better, but it's difficult to say. My experience is you need to close in CC as fast as possible against elves. But how did your JSoD work?
A word of advice from a Lizardman player who knows how to make a High Elf list and beat one better then most High Elf players, your friend's list, on a scale of 1 to 10 was at least an 8. It was not invincible by any means, but your list was misguided to begin with, no offense intended. I've found the Carno/Oldblood to be worthless against bolt throwers, much less a dragon. My advice, never leave home without a Slann. Pit of Shades would have immediately killed his dragon and the rider in one blow, nothing would have saved him. With only one lvl 1 Wizard? He would have been screwed. So in fighting ability, I'm convinced the Elves have us outmatched, also, never take a Steggie. They're juicy target for BT's. Take a 2nd Generation buffed up with casting help, extra spell, and Diadem plus a skink priest for LoS, hide the Slann in woods so the Dragon can't get him and fire like there's no tomorrow. A High Elf without 3 lvl 2 Wizards armed with scrolls is doomed against a slann, end of story. Also, Krox's and Salamanders are all I take against HEs. Also never leave Terradons behind! They allow you to kill those damned bolt throwers quickly, plus if there are archers on a hill they can eliminate them. I wish you the best in the future, -Dalkarius
