Figured I would post up the 2000pt list i plan on taking to a tournament next weekend. Feedback is welcome. Ancients Regiment 170 Ancients on Rhinosaur Horde w/ potion of the caterpillar(pathfinder) 295 Horde of Tyrants w/ brew of courage(-1 to nerve tests against) 225 Ankylodon Battle Platform 250 Clan Lord on Kaisenor Raptor Mount w/ blade of slashing(reroll a miss) 175 Mage Priest w/ heal (3) and inspiring talisman 125 Clan Lord on Fire Drake w/ wings and medalion of life(regen 5+) 315 Drakon Rider Horde w/ brew of haste 285 Drakon Rider Lord 160
Interesting - not a lot of big units, which is a bit odd, and can be dangerous if you run into a big enough Ratkin or Goblin horde and get overwhelmed by sheer numbers. Looks terrifyingly deadly, though. How did the tournament go?
So after playing 5 games with the list i think it is too one dimensional. Everything was a hammer. No anvils or chaff. I think taking out the drakon riders and drakon hero for a horde of primes, a ghekko skylord, and lekelidon will be much better
In my (admittedly limited) experience, the Ankylodon is not worth its points cost. De 6+ would suggest it should be used as an anvil, but it has a relatively narrow front and is too easily flanked (or maybe even bypassed). The Lekelidon looks interesting. I think a couple of them could make great chaff units, with a secondary shooting role. I have yet to try it out in numbers, though.
the ankylodon has been $$ for me in almost every game. the narrow front makes it even more tanky because it makes it more difficult to multicharge. It also has decent shooting and cant be wavered. Also wounds everything in the game on 2+
Yes, such monster is often best used near the center of your line, sadwitched between solid infantry units so his flanks are protected, and allowing him to combo charge with eitheir one of those supporting units to add the needed punch where it might be needed the most.
