me and 2 friends are having a tournament thing (friendly) and i was wandering if you guys could help me make my army list better, my saurus units are ment to hold up the center line, while my stegadon cold ones and carnosaurus rex go on one flank and then run down the side and turn in toward the main bit of the battle, ive only tested this army list once against vampire counts and it did rather well getting me a victory. Lord, general Saurus old blood Carnosaur Light armour Scimitar of the sun Maiming shield Glyph necklace 475 Heroes Saurus scar Cold one Burning blade Light armour Shield BSB 158 Skink priest Lvl 2 EOTG’s Dispel scroll Diadem 440 Core Saurus warriors x 15 Spears Command 210 Saurus warriors x 15 Spears Command 210 Saurus warriors x 16 Command 206 skink skirmishers x 10 Special Cold ones x 5 Musician Banner Huanchi’s blessed totem 230 TOTAL 1999 i only know what the high elf player has and im mainly scared of his lord tirion, but he has tirion arch mage lvl2 on dragon 20 pheonix guard 10 lothren sea guard 10 lothren sea guard 2 x bolt throwers 19 dragon princess it goes up to 20 when tirion goes in here i dont no wat the army has in terms of magic items.
tirion is a high elf named character, his stats are WS,7 BS,? S,7 T,3 W,3 I,10 A,4 this guy has a 1 up armour save, he has regeneration and a 4+ ward save. he is basically immune to fire weapons aswell. so bricks entered my pants when i herd about him.
I think he means Tyrion. He can stand a lot of pain, and then I mean a lot. He can also never lose his regeneration due to him being immune to fire in the first place (thanks to his armour). What I would reccomend against that sort of list is simple: 1. Bait his dragon princes w/Tyrion with a skink unit or something 2. Flee from his charge and let him run the skink unit down (they charge 16 inches, should be easy to estimate where they end up) 3. Charge his Dragon Princes in the flank with an ancient stegadon ridden by a chief with Stegadon War Spear. 4. If you kill them/run them down, you have earned yourself ca. 1200 pts and most probably won the game. This should be very easy to accomplish since he has very few units. You could also use skinks to bait away this unit for the entire game. Its only 1 unit to trick after all. Never charge this unit in the front! Then your unit will be dead, and he gets to pursuit/overrun. As for the mage on dragon, blast him with everything you've got. Magic, blowpipes, razordons etc. It should be fairly easy to kill the mage (T3). If he hides it away, then too bad, he won't get to use it. Finally, try to distract his shooting battery (seaguards and repeaters) with fast units like skinks and terradons. Then he must concentrate on them, and you can advance with your stegadon(s), saurus etc. in peace. Hope that helped a bit. I am a high elf players myself, so just ask if you have any general/tactical questions.
whats tyrions leadership????? The blade of realities is looking really really nice for you right about now (if he has 8-9 leadership he should die with 5 attacks)
He has leadership 10 like all HE princes... I wouldn't want my old blood anywhere near him, blade of realities or no. Also, his AS is 0+ not 1+ because he is mounted. That is a crazy unit of dragon princes. Also Tyrion's base is a monster base (40x40 I think) so he will actually take up 2 spaces in the unit and they wil be an unweildy shape. And your friend's points are a touch off their, it reaches 2090 without any items for the dragon mage, which he will probaby have 40-50 points or any kind of command on the units. Definitely flanking that unit of Dragon Princes is the key, which will be a problem since they are very fast. You will have to get a unit stuck in with them and hope it lasts a turn or that you are lined up to charge where he might overrun to. Even in the flank they get ASF and 2 attacks each, but low s if they don't get the charge. Don't even bother with magic on the DP unit, Tyrion has MR 2. I think you will definitely have trouble taking them out of the game and bringing them down. I would probably try to tangle them up with skinks and focus on destroying the rest of the army.
"19 dragon princess" Lol, yeah elves are pretty darn effeminate. Hmm, is he really running that many together in one unit? How fun for you! I'd swap your Oldblood's setup a bit, possibly give him the ignore armor save blade. You will need some more bait skinks. With a unit that size, he will have trouble maneuvering. If you can get your armor save negating Oldblood into his flank he will be hard pressed to win combat, and the Lord and Carno will start chewing through them if they don't break. Once they are str 3 they really won't hurt you much at all (i.e., if you charge them). That unit will likely wipe out your saurus blocks if he gets a frontal charge, don't expect them to hold much. Also resist the urge to flank charge with your steggie, the ASF will probably nuke your poor skink priest. Much more useful to use burning alignment on them the whole game. A dragon too huh? Interesting. Some terradons could be invaluable just for dropping rocks on his wizard mounted on the dragon. Might just be able to pick him off and get the dragon out of the picture early. IIRC the phoenix guard just have a 4+ ward but aren't stubborn or anything too terrible. Your high volume attack spearmen should mince them well enough. I would dissolve one infantry block, probably the HW+SH ones, and get some more support units in there.
Brilliant..... the BoRT will cut clean through all of those dragon princes....and the carnosaur speaks for itself with str 7, only problem is they strike first.... but give your oldblood a ward save and u should be fine... but hit him in the flank just incase. Also.... Burning alingment and uranons will tear his unit to pieces.
ASF for the princes is no problem at all as long as they don't charge.. Getting your carnosaur in a position to charge the flank will be the hard part since they are fast, once he is there it is a simple matter of cutting them to pieces. I guess some careful baiting with skinks should give you the opportunity. Don't let anything get to the front of the unit (ie. your carnosaur) because there lies Tyrion, and he strikes first with s7 and 4 attacks all the time. Yep, PG also cause fear though. With their high WS and s4 you would want to be a bit careful with saurus units, especially since they only seem to be 15 models strong, wouldn't want to be caught beaten and outnumbered due to an extra rank and outnumber from the PG. They aren't really that scary on their own when not suported by a character, but they are still very hard to kill and cause fear. I would probably get the cold ones into them with a saurus block, then you get some fear yourself and outnumber. Also, be a bit careful with burning alignment. At the moment it is not known whether it is a flaming attack or not, if it is ruled to be flaming at the tournie (which is good against most armies) or by a GW FAQ whenever it comes, the dragon prince unit will be immune to it.
i can't tell you how good sallie's are against high elves they would do good against everything but the dragon and dragon princes so are still worth taking plus they will help with the undead as well so i would highly recommend them as for tyrion i have never fought him but i have read his stats and am terrified of him there is a reason he costs as much as he does i think he could take just about anyone in close combat so i would just stay away from him try to get the flank like everyone else says
I'll second the salamander idea, if just for that stupid block of phoenix guard. Are they immune to psych in addition to fear causing? Even if they can't be panicked, you can toast large numbers of them and hopefully they won't outnumber by the time they get to combat, then the saurus can have fun. Saurus vs PG - 1/2*2/3*1/2 = 1/6 of all attacks wound PG vs Saurus - 2/3*1/2*2/3 = 2/9 of all attacks wound PG do slightly better, but the Saurus have a lot more attacks (I think). I think PG only have 1 attack each? Are they spearmen? (wishes he had HE book handy still)
The PG have halberds, so they are s4. No they are not immune to panic, they just cause fear. PG 6 attacks, 4 hit, 2 wound, depending on your AS ~1 dies. Saurus 19 attacks (one is dead from ASF), 9.5 hit, ~6 wound, 6+ armour saves 1, 4+ ward leaves ~2.5 dead. Yeah I guess statistically saurus are a bit better than PG due to the shear number of s4 attacks. However, they have a rank up and outnumber so you are still losing combat by 1 or 2 and needing insane courage due to the fear. You need to either gang up on them with two things, or bring them down a bit with shooting/magic. They will get their ward save vs salamanders, so they wouldn't be my first target. But due to the lack of other viable targets in the posted list, I guess I would probably aim for them and see what happens.
Most likely he will only run 12 dragon princes and have a Tyrian and BSB join the unit. Give them the d6 combat res. Dont forget he can always give his DP the banner of ignoring terrain. This can be a big problem, yes the carnasaur can do alot but if it gets challenged by Tyrian its not going to do anything. Tyrian is 4 attacks str 7 after about 2 turns of combat or 1 turn of you getting to attack the carnasaur will be dead. Carnasaur has 4 attacks 2 hitting 2 wounding and he will have what a 5+ Armour 4+ regen 4+ ward. If you can get past that all you can roll a 5 or 6 to mulitwound and kill him. The chances are there but there not that great because you would only have 1 chance at it. The best thing to do would be to charge it before he charges you, you can do this with the hitachi banner or some good bait and flee. I personaly have never killed Tyrian i always kill his unit and run him down. I suggest the say thing.
He can't challenge you if he is at the front and you are at the flank... He needs to be in the fight to issue a challenge. If the unit has the battle banner (for +d6 combat res) nothing is going to touch them in combat, don't even try.
If you round like that, yeah only 2.5. The real number is closer to 3.1. So if they take outnumber and an extra rank, you're looking at a dead heat, with the saurus favored in successive rounds. A lot depends on making those rolls though, so yeah, it will be important to thin them out a bit. Even killing one to get that extra rank will make you a favorite to win, assuming you don't charge them and lose your extra attacks!
was just thinking that a couple of large units of razors would be able to do some damage to that unit of dragon princes and they might just be the key to breaking that unit down and that unit is pretty much his army since it is almost half of his points they can throw down a large amount of shots and can monouver around fairly easy since they are relatively small and can get off a few shots before they get charged since sallies cannot hurt them they are mostly useless against them so in this case i like razors
