So I started playing lizards back in 5th ed but they've kinda been on the shelf for quite a few years. With the new book and models I've decided to bring em back. Here's what I'm working with right now and it seems like a pretty standard tactic but I've got 425 points to spend and I'm not too familiar with the list tactics for the new book so any suggestions for what to change with current list and what to add with these points would be greatly appreciated. Slann Mage Priest(400) BSB, Focused Rumination, Soul of Stone, Focus of Mystery 2x18 Saurus Warriors(456) Full Command 2x12 Skink Skirmishers(168) 16 Temple Guard(291) 6 Cold One Cavalry(260) Full Command That's 1575 right there. Probably need another hero possibly one on cold one too add more punch with them. Also, thinking about adding stegadon but what kind and do I want a hero on it whether it be chief with stegadon war spear or priest on EotG.
Personally, I love the Engines. You charge in with your saurus, and then flank charge, or squeeze into the front alongside the saurus if you need to. Then use burning alignment. It's nice. You may also want to look into getting some Krox. Run n unts of 4, they can be devastatig on the charge, but are cmpletely screwed (in me exp) when they get charged. Salamanders are nice against rank-and-file armies, especially ones with lots of small-based troops, such as goblins, or dwarves (the -3 AS is nice, messes the dwarves up ) but not so nice against large-trooped armies such as ogres, because you won't get many hits. Razordons are okay, nice against the larger models, doing artllery die attacks each, will mess stuff up, if you can hit. Stegadons are nice too, even withou the EoTG, as I'm in love with the giant blowpipes (4d6 poison attacks) are great against unaarmored opponents. It depends on what you're fighting. If you fight O&G, TK, other lizards, or especially skaven salamanders and an ancient steg. Salamanders and krox against dwarves (they rip up dwarf armor, ad if you fight a gunline, the krox will eat them aive after just 2-3 turns, as I think they are move 6, S4 or 5 + great weapons). Against ogres, I would reccomend krox and razordons. Daemons I don't know, probably an ancient stegadon and kroxigrs there, but I haven't played against them. Warriors of chaos are krox all the way, and an EoTG so you can use the Burning alignment (Ignores armor saves is just plain nasty against WoC). The various elves, I don't know, haven't played 'em with my lizardmen. Sorry for the huge longness of the post, but I wanted to give my reasoning behind the advice, instead of just screaming abou the "epic pwnage of teh uber kroxigorz" or something like that. That's my 2 cents, hope it helps, Krox
I'm kind of in the same boat, LM was my very first Fantasy army and I'm just now getting back into them. I would say that a level 2 priest on an engine with the plaque of tepok and a dispel scroll would be a nice addition to your list, I also believe it takes up exactly 425 points so would fit in your list perfectly. Also, with your saurus blocks I would only take them in units of 18 if you are taking spears on them, otherwise I would go with a ranked up unit of 20. To get the points for this I would start by dropping some of your command options on your units. I would start with your champs, Champs aren't super necessary if there isnt a character to protect. I would drop the champs from the saurus and CoR, this gets you exactly the amount of points you need to get 2 extra HW/S saurus in each unit of Saurus.
