So yeah, title says it all.. going against an Ogre Kingdoms army tomorrow and wondering about my list. Slaan, rumination, becalming, plaque of tepok (lore of life or shadows) Scar-vet, armor of destiny, shield, piranha blade 25 Saurus Warriors, full command 20 Saurus Warriors, full command 11 Temple guard, musician, standard (since slann displaces 4 models this would make a full 2 bonus ranks unit. 10 skink skirmishers 10 skink skirmishers 10 chameleon skinks 6 Cold Ones Cavalry, musician, standard bearer 1 stegadon
At 2000 points, you will probably see a cannon or possibly 2. I would also field a unit of at least 3 maneaters with the scout and stubborn ability. These will also have a brace of pistols (so expect to be shot at). In the Core department, you will see a unit of regular Ogres and a unit of Ironguts (expect the characters to go in this unit or the maneaters-if it doesn't scout). There may be a sabertusk or two as well. For his general, he will probably take slaughtermaster (lvl 4 with Death Lore) and the greedy fist. This item will steal a spell and a level from your slann with each successful hit (both in combat and magic). It will ruin your magic pretty fast. In the hero slot, you should see a butcher (with the Hellheart) to cause you to miscast (without casting). You can transfer that using cupped hands or use the throne of vines to save against it. He should also have a bruiser BSB to get the rerolls. Take out the cannons as quickly as you can. Those cannons are also chariots that are fairly good in close combat. Hope this helps.
good info, but some back information is needed. Myself and the Ogres player have made a pact.. he won't lore of death/greedy fist me.. and I won't purple sun him. Also, I know he only owns one maneater model (which I got for him) and so he won't be fielding a unit of them. He does, however, have that monsterous cannon and giant tusked beasty. I'm using my saurus as anvils and the CoC/steg as my hammers with the TG as a bunker that can be a fall back hammer if things get hairy. I'm hoping to use the chameleons to tie up his cannon for most of the game. The skirmishers will be harassers and redirectors. The scar-vet is going in the larger of the two saurus blocks and with 2+ AS and 4+ ward he should be able to take a beating.. at the same time the piranha blade sill be dishing out two wounds for the price of one which should slow his role rather easily. I'm hoping the steg/chamo skinks are his prime targets with the cannons then get across the field to lock into him. Lore of Life will make my saurus insanely tough to kill while Lore of Shadows should make his big bad ogres into glorified clanrats with a bad roll and utter mush in a good roll. Dwellers is less effective than pit of shades on ogres though both have their merits. I could, however, scrap the scar-vet and the steg and take an EotG.. give my boys a 5+ ward save against his cannon as we march. Opinions?
