    Lords: 455 (22.75%)

    Saurus Oldblood
    -Carnosaur
    -Maiming Shield
    -Sword of bloodshed
    -seed of rebirth
    -Light armor

    Heroes: 487 (24.35%)

    Skink Priest
    -Level 1
    -Dispel scroll

    Skink Priest,
    -Level 2

    Skink Chief
    -Terradon
    -Light Armor
    -Shield
    -Staff of the Lost Sun
    -Bane Head

    Core: 588 (29.4%)

    Skink Skirmishers x10

    Skink Skirmishers x10

    Saurus Warriors x30
    -Musician
    -Standard Bearer
    -Spears
I run the unit 6 wide 5 deep and it works well with spears for me. I'm sure mathhammer wise HW+S is better but the extra row of attacks I think is worth the loss of a parry save.

    Special: 230 (11.5%)

    Cold one Cavalry x5
    -Musician
    -Standard
    -Huanchi's Blessed Totem

    Rare: 240 (12%)

    Salamander Hunting Pack x3
    -Extra Handlers

What do you think? Any suggestions? Also, quick question: With the skink chief on terradon can he drop rocks on a unit he flies over? On page 91 (Heroes section of book) under the chart at the bottom talking about character mounts the rules it lists for terradon is "Flying Cavalry, Hit and Run, Drop rocks, Arboreal predators". This suggests he gets the rule, however the rule itself states, "Once a game, during the Remaining Moves segment of the movement phase, a unit of Terradon Riders may drop rocks on an enemy unit at least one of its models has moved over during that phase" the tricky part is it mentions a unit of terradon riders. Two things I can think of is A) a skink chief is not a "terradon rider" but a skink chief with a special mount and he is not a "unit" he is a lone "model"... What do?

My opinion is that there isn't enough cold one cavalry. They normally get targeted because they are hard hitting and have a bunch of attacks. Now people will target them because they are small in number too, and they're too expensive to field for them to just turn tail and run (they only need to cop 2 casulties before they start to panic).
Another thing with that point is even if they get into combat, there wouldn't be enough to secure a combat win.

Agreed about needing more CoC. Especially if you're committing points to a standard/musician w/ magic banner. Just a couple more.

Your old blood and carnosaur are vulnerable. 6+ regen, no ward. But, so long as you know that cannons exist, and a block of infantry will still be steadfast because of ranks, it's your game, have fun with it. I like the aggressive build, though. That's a lot of attacks.

... Wow, just realised you've got no warmachine hunters (except the chief, perhaps?). I would seriously consider switching out 10 skirmishers for a unit of chamo skinks. Without them, a cannon is going to give you nightmares.

In regards to the terradon question, I think would say he can drop rocks. No rule to point to, I just think it would be dumb otherwise. Plus, drop rocks never really seems to do much for me.

I totally missed an important hero lol... There should have been a scar vet with CoRs...

Scar Vet (In with Cold one Cavalry)
    -Cold One
    -Shield
    -Gamblers Armor
    -Dawnstone
    -Ironcurse Icon

He gives the unit the extra oompf as well as the ironcurse save to help it make it to the enemy. As for hunting warmachines yeah that's the chief most people I play only field 1 canon or trebuchet so chief vanguards out then marches 20 drops rocks then launches 9 s5 bs5 attacks most of the time that's enough. Like I said we ARE new to 8th rules so that might not be doable but the best I could figure is due to flying cavalry rule, while on a terradon, he is fast cavalry. As such he can vanguard as well as march at shoot.

As for the chamos I need the core points so to fit them in I'd have to kill a priest or sally and I get a lot of use out of those do you think it's worth it? I've never really used chamos before.

haha, yep, that's quite an omission. Have a try with the chief, it can't hurt. I might run him myself next game. How much points is he worth total?

If the Chief is going to be a war machine hunter then I'd drop the Bane Head. I wouldn't put a crappy skink in a challenge with a decent character.

I'd also drop the staff and give him a blowpipe (poison! heck yeah!) and the sword of strife for a couple of extra attacks. My theory would be to take out a wound with the vanguard move (blowpipe) and follwo up next round with the charge and kill off the last couple of wounds. Most war machines only have 1 or 2 wounds.

OH! might also be cool to take the charmed shield for 5 points (disregard first HIT on 2+ - ie: defence against a cannonball after your vanguard)

Ok just tried this list against a friend of mines Dark elf army and his Bret army. Bear in mind both of his armies are old 5th ed ones so he was using a bunch of small units in both. Think his largest block was 25 spearmen. Destroyed him both times.

As for lists I'll quickly list them off. We used his 5th ed books for point values and special rules for his army and the 8th ed rules overall. Not sure if this is why I decimated him, maybe everything was more expensive then?

    Dark elves:
5 Dark Riders (With spears and Xbows)
    2 Repeater Bolt Throwers
14 City Guard (7 wide 2 deep, first row is xbowmen second is spearmen)
    14 city Guard
    25 Spearmen (Shields)
    20 Witch Elves
20 Corsairs (with AHW and Xbows)
    10 Xbowmen
Beastlord General on Black Dragon (Armor of Fortune and Enchanted Shield)
Dark elf Sorcerer Champion (we Count it as a level 2) Death
Dark elf sorcerer Champion - Shadows

    Brettonia:
3 groups of 15 bowmen in wedge formations
3 lances of 6 Errant Knights(?)
1 Lance of 10 Grail Knights
1 Lance of 10 Questing Knights
1 Wizard Lord on Warhorse (we let this count as a level 4 wizard as its the 3rd upgrade above basic) Heavens

Not sure if either of these would be legal in 8th but they were by the book legal in 5th by his army books anyways.

Against the Dark elves I lost like 6 skinks, my chief and 1 priest (miscast) and he conceeded after all he had left was corsairs and 1 unit of city guard by turn 4. (Saurus never made it to combat) Basically he tried to gunline, i marched up my whole army behind the 2 hills on first turn, he did nothing on his first, then I marched my skinks out and bee-lined my terradon into his Bolt throwers killing a good chunk of crew due to drop rocks and 9 shots from staff of lost sun. He charged his warriors into the terradon and moved everything else forwards to get ready to charge the skinks only to get a bit too close to my carnosaur and CoR's. His block of spearmen got mowed down in 2 turns to my carnosaur, his Witch elves all melted to skink fire, (well all but 2 then they ran) 1 of his city guard units lost 6 models to salamander fire and ran off the board, both his wizards and xbowmen died to more skink fire. it was a massacre. Everything worked wonders.

As for the Brets, game was called on his turn 3 after a Lucky Comet (the 2 tokens a turn one) landed after being cast on turn one and he didn't get far enough away from it with his two big lances of knights and took 2d6+6 S10 hits. Yeup. they all died. As did most of his bowmen on one side from salamander fire and from the other side with the chief. I did lose a bit here the knights charged the saurus block killing like 12 of them but thats more or less all I lost. Think I lost like 3 or 4 skinks and a cold one rider too but again almost tabled him.

What I noticed actually using this list (at least against 5th ed armies) is the saurus block is waaay too slow to keep up with my battle line. I'm thinking of dropping it and replacing it with two skrox units. Is this wise? Or should I just chalk the wins up to 5th ed armies sucking?

Would the bretonnian book still be the same one? I've got a feeling it is. Dark elves, though... yeah, big changes since 5th. But whatever, I think you can still draw some valid conclusions.

One thing, though, is that war machines use the toughness of the war machine for rolling to wound for shooting attacks (eg. for drop rocks). Did you use that? I've never had much luck with my terradons drop rocks.

Oh wow, just re-read your post. You've definitely got a hangover from a previous edition, as each model only gets 1 shooting shot, NOT the number of attacks on his profile. Your skink chief would only get 3 shots total (pg 40). I would think you'd be better off giving him a blow-pipe and venom of firefly frog, ditching the banehead (as pointed out, it does nothing for warmachine hunters, and your skink chief will get demolished by most other characters anyway). This gives you 2 re-rollable to-hit poisoned shots, as opposed to 3 not poisoned attacks, for 17 points less.

On the topic of Saurus vs Skrox, you're right, the carnosaur and CoC will run way ahead of your saurus. Skrox will keep up, though they make weak anvils IMO. I'd say give it a go next game.

Oh wow, totally didn't notice the 1 shot thing. This makes him a much worse choice then Chamos. I was on the fence before as having the ability to fly around made him a bit more attractive despite the extra points. Guess I'll be replacing him with some chamos and frees up a bit more points for the Skrox units.

If I put in 5 Chamos (That's 10 attacks with scout, still should be enough to down a war machine) that frees up 79 points. Cutting out the 30 Saurus brings me up to 469 free points to throw into the skrox blocks.

    So...

    16 Skink
    2 Krox
    Full Command

    16 Skink
    2 Krox
    Full Command

and Up the level 1 Priest to a level 2.

    Think that's a good exchange?
