Hi i was wondering to try this list on my next game:
    Lords (490pts)

Slann Mage-Priest (490pts) lore of lfe or death
Cupped Hands of the Old Ones, Divine Plaque of Protection
Focus of Mystery, The becalming cogitation, The Focused Rumination
    Battle Standard Bearer
    Standard of Discipline

    Heroes (105pts)

    Skink Priest (105pts)
    Cube of Darkness

    Core (884pts)

    28xSaurus Warriors
    Musician, Standard Bearer

    30xSaurus Warriors
    Musician Standard Bearer

    10xSkink Skirmishers
    10xSkink Skirmishers
    10xSkink Skirmishers

    Special (295pts)

    5xChameleon Skinks

    Stegadon

    Rare (225pts)

    3x Salamander

    total 1999

i was wonderin to put the slaan with 28 saurus in the center, keep the 30 saurus with the sallys in one flank and the stegadon in the other. skirmisker in front slowing down the coming enemies shooting on them and escaping. what do you think about this? it is better to play with life or death?
    Thank you very much :)

Doesn't look all that "bunker"-like to me, at least by Slann standards.

If putting the Slann in a Saurus unit, I think you absolutely need Life. Many miscasts are horribly destructive to the Saurus unit.

The list lacks killing power. You have nothing strength 6 or higher, and your only source of even strength 5 is the stegadon. Anything with armour or Toughness 6 will be a big problem, and that includes characters.

Slann in a saurus unit actually should cause less destruction than one in a temple guard because they will be in the front rank, and with cupped hands you have miscast protection, so don't get shoe horned into life because you are worried about miscasts, just don't six dice things once cupped hands is gone!

Life is most effective with temple guard and multi wound monsters, making a toughness 8 regenerating stubborn block, while healing monsters, this list doesn't lend itself as well to that tactic, one unit with the slann will get buffed and do well, the other will get in trouble.

Death could work but doesn't bring too much to the table in the way of killing mass ranked units but the sniping is good.

I personally prefer light in this kind of list, the ability to bubble the key spells can make both units very strong in combat.

But David is right, you have no killing power, you need a scar vet in there, maybe with a great weapon and venom of the firefly frog to give some strength seven goodness.

You say your next game but don't say what army you expect to play? Because the divine plaque of protection isn't very useful if you plan on bunkering your slann, he is already ethereal so very very few thing can pick him out of the unit (Skaven artillery, dwarf artillery) and then he has to fail his look out sir as well, the points could be better spend elsewhere unless you know you are going to play one of the above

However if you take swap cube of darkness with dispell scroll because cube will remove youR throne of vines as well, something an enemy would love to see happen

    thanks for the answers!
I do not know against who I play next time (may be vampire counts, Empire, Skaven, demons, high elves or dark elves) my goal to make a"standard" list that allows me to play with different armies, whoever he is my opponent .

-for what concerns the lack of killing power, one scar vet is enough to
    compensate?

-the slaan is not ethereal, my mistake: D actually discipline is the becalming cogitation (I just corrected it)

-good idea to remove the cube of darkness playing life, I never thought of: D

-in the few games that I've always played the temple guards, but I have a feeling that in the eight edition for those points is not worth to play them, because they are not so much more than saurus imho(they have (+1S +1Ac 4+ as with no parry 6++) , that's why i'm tryng with warriors(i'm still a noob player so tell me if i say something totally wrong). what do you think?

You really want your slann to be your bsb. Or well I want at least. I'd swap the Scar vet on a cold one so you can use him to hunt down chaff on his own if you want.

I find that i love using a Scar Vet with Crown of Command, GW, LA, Luckstone (or charmed shield), Dragon Helmet. He can take on whole units by himself, causes fear and is stubborn. He is just CRAZY! - Your Scar Vet does pack a good punch himself though, i'd like a better save on him, but that is a matter of taste really

I'm a little confused by your Scar-Vet. Does he have an Extra Hand Weapon, or are you just listing the fact that he comes with one? If he does indeed have a spare hand weapon, keep in mind that he will only get ONE poisoned magical attack from the Venom of the Firefly Frog. If he does not have a spare HW, then the Venom is null and void as it only applies to mundane weapons.

Regardless, if the SV is going to be a BSB I would highly recommend looking into getting him some better armor in place of the Venom.

Good list overall though. It may be beneficial to run your Sallies as separate units.

OH! Welcome to LO!! Almost missed that. :smug:
