Well this is my favourite and most successful Southlands list so far.

    CHARACTERS

    Skink Chief on Ancient Stegadon
    - Spear/shield
    - Scared stegadon helm
    = 386pts

Level 2 Skink Priest on Engine
    - Dispel Scroll
    - Diadem of power
    = 440pts

    CORE

    16 Skink Cohort
    - 2 Kroxigors
    - Standard/musician
    = 204pts

    16 Skink Cohort
    - 2 Kroxigors
    - Standard/musician
    = 204pts

    10 Skink Skrimishers
    = 70pts

    10 Skink Skrimishers
    = 70pts

    SPECIAL

    3 Terradons
    = 90pts

    3 Terradons
    = 90pts

    5 Chameleon skinks
    = 60pts

    1 Stegadon
    = 235pts

    RARE

    1 Salamander
    - 3 crew
    = 75pts

    1 Salamander
    - 3 crew
    = 75pts

    TOTAL POINTS = 1999pts

    Casting Dice - 4
    Dispel Dice - 3
Models in the army - 93

The army features a lot of speed and a fair amount of hitting power. I usually find the EoG is enough magic defense. I'd love to squeeze a bsb into the list, but just can't find the points.

I don't really see the need for krox in skink armies. In CC they are mediocre but the skinks in the unit allow for free kills to win combat and force them to run. I would add more skirmishers instead and keep them all out of combat as much as possible. Three stegs gives a lot of oppertunities to trample your enemies stronger units and they're fast so you'll probably get the charge. Other than that you have a pretty good list IMHO.

oh... the other thing I would do is if you take out the krox you should have enough points to put a second chief of the third steg and give him the war spear for extra impart hits.

This list looks pretty good to me, except for one thing: your skink chief.

Firstly, and you should probably change this whether you agree with my next suggestion or not, his shield is pointless. It does not contribute to his armor save because he's on the steg, and if that dies he is utterly screwed anyways. Did you just add this because you had extra points?

Secondly, the Stegadon Helm. I would personally switch that for the War-Spear, but you should change it with whatever you want, because the helm is not a useful item. The +1 armor save is useless like I said above, so you are spending 50 points just to give him Ld 8 instead of 7. That is really not a fair trade. If you wanted to do something for your troops' morale, make him the battle standard - it costs half as many points, and I believe will be more useful.

Other than that, though, I think your list looks great and remarkably viable for a Skinks-only army. ;)

    Good luck!

I have to disagree with Eternal Warden about the helm. I think the helm is well worth the points in an all skink army so long as you plan to keep a lot of skinks near the chief. This is why I recommended adding a second chief with the spear.

    Thanks for the comments gents.

I really like the Helm over the spear. The additional +1 LD really tends to help the skinks out especially with the 3D6 LD tests.

I've toyed with making the Skink priest on EOTG the general. That would allow me to make the chief the bsb and take the spear?

As far as the Skink/krox units go I think they have a place in all skink armies. I realize they give up a fair amount of combat res. However if they get the charge they usually stick around allowing my stegs and other units to get in on the flanks.

Remember, the General has to be the Lord/Hero with the highest Ld in the army, you can only choose if there's a tie. This basically means that, since Skink Priests have the lowest Ld out of all the LM characters, one can only be the General if Skink Priests are the only type of hero in the army.

not exactly, a BSB can not be the general as per BRB. so if there are 2 priests and 1 chief (who is a BSB) one of the priests has to be the general... altough you might not want a whole army with Ld 6... maybe a chief with the stegadon helm behind all the skirmishers so they dont run off when the 1st terror bomb lands

I'm not sure but given how you worded it it sounds like you want your chief BSB to have the spear? You can't do that. BSBs can only take magical banners (except slann).

Read more carefully... a non-Slann BSB cannot take normal magic items only if he has a magic banner. If he simply leaves it as a generic battle standard then he can take magic items.

    And I stand corrected.
