This is my army list that i run atm, i have had 1 loss with this list, 2 draws and 6 wins. basically i put my cold ones my stegadon, and my carnosaur all next to each other, and there is not many units that can withstand all 3 of these charging into a single unit. The reason im on here is because I played quite an experienced player yesterday (we drew) but it was the hardest game i ever played, my dispelling was terrible he got 4 curse of years spells off on my saurus units(it makes anything(including whole units) take a wound on 6's, then at the end of the next magic phase they take a wound of 5's, then 4's etc.) anihilating a whole unti leaving 3 saurus in one and then leaving 13 saurus in the other before they where killed and run down. So i ask you what should i do to this list to make it more anti magic, i still want to keep my carno, steggy and cold ones, but i dont no how to dispel more, in the whole game i dispelled 4 spells and (that was including my dispel scroll) and i get 6 dispel dice a turn. my army list is as follows: Lord, general Saurus old blood Carnosaur Light armour Scimitar of the sun Maiming shield 445 Heroes Saurus scar Cold one Burning blade Glyph necklace Light armour Shield BSB 188 Skink priest Lvl 2 EOTG’s Dispel scroll Diadem 440 Core Saurus warriors x 15 Spears Command 210 Saurus warriors x 15 Spears Command 210 Saurus warriors x 16 Command 206 skink skirmishers x 10 Special Cold ones x 5 Musician Banner Huanchi’s blessed totem 230 TOTAL 1999 3 things u should know about me 1. I hate skinks they are weak and freighten easily, the only reason that i have 1 unit is as a flesh shield or blow pipes are good against enemies with not much armour. 2. I know cold ones are expensive and that they are anoying with stupidity, but thats a risk i am willing to take. 3. My guy on carno has that setup because he is know like a whole unit of warriors with better strength and tougness with 9 attacks when he is frenzied, and his carno having 5 attacks was too good to refuse. please help!
If you need more dispelling you could drop the maiming sheild for a normal sheild, that rogue saurus in the 16 man unit, and the skinks (since you don't like them) to get another priest scroll caddy. It would be 115 for a priest with 2 scrolls i believe, and what I put forward is 109 i believe so you might have to shave something else. beyond that, this is very similar to an army i ran recently. I found that the 5 attacks from the Old Blood and the 4 attacks from the carnasaur pre frenzy were enough to not need to spend 50 points on 2 more, i am a huge fan of sword of striking though, 2's to hit on most anything is amazing and for half the cost. For the most part opponents will keep their multiwound stuff (i.e. vampires who also have ws6) away from your predatory bite so you can devour basic infantry to your hearts content.
i might try taking the skinks out, but they are a handy flesh shield, and they do take down ghouls easily(i play against VC alot) with blow pipes. maybe im just over compensating (i think thats the word i want) as i did roll alot of 2's and 1's when trying to dispel. the main question is: 6 DISPEL DICE, IS IT ENOUGH???? In terms of going against balanced armys, as my army is very close combat heavy, do you think it will survive against a slightly magic army or even a magic heavy army. THANX FOR THE COMMENT(S) THOUGH
Another thing you have going for you is the EotG wardsave. You can consider this a form of defense against at least the magic missle type of magic, and possibly let some magic missiles go undispelled if they have other spells to worry about.
Local games tend to be very magic heavy these parts (12 power dice and the like). First off you need to see the chances of facing heavy magic armies. If you think that there is a good chance of coming against one such army, then I would definitely suggest another priest (lv 1 is enough) with one or 2 scrolls. Also, I would always use the diadem for dispelling pusposes in these situations. As a general comment, I like the composition of your army.
Thanx for the comments, i always save 2 dispel dice using the diadem. @ Aranigej thanx for the compliment, i also like the composition of my army . i think ill move som things around so i can get a lvl1 priest with 1 dispel scroll atleast.
Also, don't forget that the carnosaur is no longer a large target so putting it in the safety of a saurus warrior unit will ensure that it is not targeted by enemy nasty warmachines Keep him there for a couple of turns and when he is within range... unleash him *insert evil laugh*
