Hey guys, I'm new to Lizardmen and could use some help. I have a massive Empire army, but have not played Fantasy for about 3 or 4 years now. I'm getting back into Fantasy with Lizardmen. Here is my list, let me know what you think! HEROES Saurus Oldblood w/ Carnosaur Scimitar Enchated Shield Glyph Necklace Skink Chief w/ Segadon Stegadon War Spear Skink Priest w/ Ancient Stegadon Diadem of Power Dispell Scroll CORE 20 Saurus Warriors w/ Champion, Standard Bearer, Musician 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers SPECIAL 5 Cold One Calvary w/ Champion, Magical Standard, Musician w/ War Banner 4 Terradon Riders TOTAL: 2000pts My main opponent so far will be a Skaven player building a tournament list. As well as Chaos, Daemons, and Dwarfs. The unit of Cold ones is a little iffy in my opinion. I'm thinking of swapping them for another unit of Saurus Warriors, though I don't like how slow the Saurus Warriors are! Let me know what you think and how I can improve my list! And if you have any strategies, especially against Skaven, it would be appreciated. Still new to this forum, so have not gone through everything yet. Perhaps there is a link there somewhere!
when moving the stegs try to get as many enemy units in 6 inches the fell-rat-spawn will flee (almost) every time
If your taking the skink chief with war spear its a great idea to find 40 points somewhere and upgrade the reg. steg. to a A. steg. 2D6 S. 6 impact hits = ouuuch
Your taking a lot of Champions in your units, something I don't generally use unless I plan on putting a character in a unit. You just don't get a very good investment for the points you pay. Also, I'd keep your unit of CoC since they make an excellent anvil unit once your enemy has jumped on your 20 or so saurus. Speaking of your Saurus 20 seems a bit large. I assume your going a block of 5x4. I like to run 6x3 which gives you four extra attacks which will more than make up for the loss of a rank of SCR. Tactics-wise I would screen your saurus with a unit of skinks to help prevent shooting. Use your other unit to run up along side and harrass the enemy. You need to try and figure a way to get a unit of terradons. It's probably one of the most favored units in our army list (for many very good reasons) and it's under 100 points so you should be able to figure a way to get them in. They're excellent at taking out war machines (even dwarves), march blocking and you can't ever forget their dropped rocks rule.
Indeed, would not recommend champions as it is just one extra attack for 12-20 points. Would rather recommend for the Cold Ones to get depending on who you are fighting but Skavenpelt Banner for 25 points or another magic banner.
how do you get an extra 4 attacks by making it 6x3? i believe he's running 5x4 because he's using hand weapon/shield. i don't believe he said spears. but at the same time, i agree, i don't like to bring champions in my blocks unless there is a character in it. on top of that, your cold ones don't need a full command, i usually run my COC bare because with FC and a banner is too much points for this unit, especially when they get charged and get destroyed. that's just too much points invested in a small unit. so if you take away that FC and banner, you could upgrade your reg. steg to an A. Steg. so my suggestion would be to drop your FC and banner on the COC, drop your champion in the saurus warrior unit and maybe drop 1 terradon, and you could then upgrade your R. Steg to an A. Steg. and also have enough pts left over for another unit of Skink Skirmishers which would be great to have when facing the skaven furnance, you could blow pipe it to death, also you could blowpipe the monks because i know they don't have an AS. oh yeah. your Priest is on an EotG right?
Maybe it's just because I play against WoC so much, but if I can ever spare the points I run a champion. The 1 extra attack is irrelevant, but being able to challenge is a godsend if they have any sort of superhero in the unit my saurus are fighting (especially since no one else runs champions). It can help to cap combat resolution from the hero's attacks if he's a real killing machine, and, more importantly, all the saurus that weren't killed by the hero are potentially able to attack back at the rest of the enemies. Even if the overkill bonus breaks my unit, it's no worse than if the rank and file took those wounds- and if the saurus escape, I still have a viable unit to rally.
Sorry about the whole 4 extra attacks in there. I did mean that a unit of spear saurus would have four extra attacks (w/ spears a unit of 6x3 has four extra attacks than 5x3 w/ spears). But if you don't want to give the unit spears than it's a mute points...except the two additional attacks... I can see where you'd want to take champions against WoC. But unless you know your playing WoC or you play against them more often than not I'd recommend not taking champs. I don't even always take standards because if the unit get's run down or destroyed it's an extra 100 VP.
