With the changes to 8th edition character %'s you don't often see too many all skink based lists anymore. In 7th edition these lists were rather effective as you could mount a couple of heros on stegadons. I've decided to sit down an attempt to write up an 8th edition skink based list. Here's what I have come up with. CHARACTERS Skink Chief (General) - Javelin/Shield - Dagger of Sotek - Glittering Scales = 115pts Skink Chief (BSB) - Javelin - Armour of Silvered Steel = 133pts Skink Priest - Level 2 - Dispel Scroll - Ruby Ring = 150pts CORE 22 Skinks ***General Here*** - Full Command - 2 Kroxigors = 242pts 22 Skinks ***BSB Here*** - Full Command - 2 Kroxigors = 242pts 13 Skink Skrimishers = 91pts 13 Skink Skrimishers = 91pts SPECIAL Stegadon = 235pts Stegadon = 235pts 6 Chameleon Skinks = 72pts 4 Terradons = 120pts 4 Terradons = 120pts RARE Salamander = 75pts Salamander = 75pts TOTAL POINTS = 1996pts Overall it has a lot of "support" based units. I'm hoping the 2 units of cohorts and stick around a bit, but with T2 this might not happen. I think a skink based list is possible, however taking Tehenhauin would probably be a good idea. He gives the list access to a lord type character and adds to the magic phase. Opinions? Time of Madness
Yeah, I'd defiantly add Tehenhauin. Lore of beasts could turn you Skinks into better fighters, which would be great. Pann's Impenetrable Pelt would be great with most of the army having t2.
IMO it would still be prudent to take a Slann. You need the Leadership and a good BSB. Also, Lore of Light makes skinks T6...
Eh, it might be more effective to take a Slann, but a themed list like this isn't usually about having the strongest possible army. I'd say Tehenhauin is an awesome choice that is much more keeping with the list. The question is, would you deploy him alone or on a stegadon?
I would personally give him the Stegadon, for protection and hitting power. I mean, he can't join a unit anyway, (being Unbreakable), and Tide of Serpents isn't that good IMO, so the only reason to not give him the Steggy is points.
I wouldn't bother giving the skink chiefs close combat protection they just suck too hard. Instead keep them in a unit behind you lines. I liked the cloak of feathers on my BSB in 7th so I can move him were I need him easily and it can probably also save his life sometimes, he is the most important character really. Another thing could be to buy magic resistance 3 for a character to protect all your characters a bit from death magic, you have to put them all in the same unit though. Maybe you don't even need a skink chief general, skink/krox are already Ld 7 and stegs shouldn't loose combat often and even then Ld 6 reroll is pretty safe. Reroll on panic should also be enough with the BSB reroll. If you choose a chief general the stegadon helm could be considered, going from 6 to 8 seems like it's a bit more worth the trouble. Staff of light, range 18 and can march and fire if the chief joins some skirmishers. Chameleons are ace, get some more! Not really convinced by terradons yet. The switch seems so clear to me. Salamanders are also ace, perhaps get some more. My lizard playing friend recommends 30+ skinks with 2 kroxigors, so far 24 skink+3 krox haven't impressed me much, skinks died too fast. Must test. Quick write up: Priest general: lvl 2, dispel scroll, curse charm Priest: Lvl 2, tepok Chief BSB: Cloak 2x33 skinks+2 krox: standard, musician 2x10 skink skirmish 3x5 chameleons Stegadon Ancient Stegadon 2 salamanders 1 salamander I have my doubts about the all skink army in 8th but well just maybe it could work...
