Hello all, Playing Lizards for only about a year, but have really started to understand the tactics and nature of the lizzies I want to play. This is also a cool post for me as I have been reading this great fourm the entire time I've played lizardmen- but this is my first post. I hope it proves I've learned from all you pros My goal is to trap people into taking poor charges, and to force a charge I use magic. Its a competitive style list, but not cheese- I want to avoid dual EOTG. General: Slann- 425 2 disciplines, divine plaque, cupped hands, BSB Priest- 405 EOTG, LVL 2, Tepok Priest- 130 Lvl 2, Feather Cloak 2x Saurus x18 Music, Standard 3x Skink Cohort x10 (used in my redirection) 3x Skink Skrimisher x10 (except one unit with 12) Terradons x3 Temple Guard x16 Music, Standard Salamander x1 Handler Thanks for any advice
If you don't want 2 EOTG (don't know why, they are great, but not extremely great for the priest nearly always ends dead), the other rpiest you whould make it level 2 and with the cloak, for it gives you better line of sight (and IMO, a level 1 priest will do nothing in this list, either upgrade it and make it useful, or change it for a scar vet). And better to give the scroll to the priest in the engine, and not buying the plaque, is not useful for a priet, as the lore of heavens is quite expensive to get. You don't need the divine plaque of protection for the slann when he goes in a unit of temple guards, the "loook out sir" rule works like that, and it's free. Which disciplines are you going to take? I recommend the additional dice and the "cogitator" (don't know the exact names in english ) Buy the spears for the saurus! They are worth it, really, and they are soooooo cheap it's almost a sin not getting them. And then you can use your saurus in rows of 6, getting 24 attacks when standing. I don't like the skink cohort when they are so small (made myself clear? I hope so ), and for redirection you have the normal skinks. The revered guardian is not useful, for they won't be able to challenge the slann as he is in the second row, and you can use the points for a magi standard 2 units of terradons are needed, IMO, in your list, as you will need to hostigate and get flanks and backs of enemy units, and they are so great in doing so... And then you will not need to be of 4 terradons, just 3 each. I like the lonely salamander. It's dead useful.
I agree that you should upgrade your footslogging priest to level two. In addition, if you want to go magically offensive, drop the scroll give him wings and the lightning rod (cloak of feathers and rod of storms). This helps in two ways. 1. the slann effectively has LOS everywhere, as the flying priest is effective for using the slanns channelling ability. 2. you have two more spells your opponent has to worry about, one is a bound spell that will drain two dispel dice as it can do serious damage (combined with your priests flying he can target any unit) and hopefully another good heavens spell.
If you want him to fly why not put him on a terradon? I don't have my book in front of me but itsn't it about the same points or less? That way you could put him in a unit to avoid him just being shot to death right away.
You can't mount a priest on a terradon, only in an EotG. You can only mount a skink chief in a terradon (wich IMO is a shame, but the rules are the rules).
Happy Holidays everyone! Sorry for the late reply to all your comments. Yes, the saurus have spears, should have said so but I figured that the 6x3 rank would have been a clue but no worries. But the cohort, everyone has been saying just use the skirmish; but how do you use that for redirection? I thought skirmishers align to the charge, making it really easy for anything in the warhammer world to charge, force the alignment so they can tactically charge into my blocks behind it. If I use cohort, I can move an inch away at a steep angle, force a charge on the cohort, which then pull the block off at an angle allowing for a flank charge from saurus. Can skirmishers do this too? Thanks for all your comments, also any success stories about a lone salamander? I'm not totally sold on that part of the list. Thanks!
The art in skirmisher redirection lies in the point that the charger has to charge the NEAREST skink, not the main body of them. Thus we deploy them skinks in an L formation, with the one skink closest to the enemy of on an angle, forcing our opponent to make a wheel maneuver and exposing the enemy units flank. Someone here had a very good description of it, complete with good diagram. Unfortunately I've forgotten where it was.
It looks like this. C = enemy unit x= skink z= saurus CCCC CCCC CCCC x The enemy is forced to charge this skink making them wheel exposing their flank to the saurus. x xx xxx zzzzz zzzzz zzzzz zzzzz
I'd like to add that I like the idea of using the skirmishers like this rather than ranked skinks because your opponent may not read it as well the first time. The best thing you can do it have your opponent have to guess what you're doing and when he sees the odd way the skinks are deployed he may not know what's up. Also, a less experienced player may not even be familiar with the rule so you'll have an opportunity to teach them a little about the game which is always fun to do.
... or argue 30 mins that he MUST charge the closest skink and wheel, not the bulk of the skinks. thats what happend to me in teh last 2 games, and i have a feeling it will happen a lot more
Book mark the page about skirmishers and have the Games Workshop phone number on hand. Problem solved.
Thanks for the description So I will use skirmishers if I can figure out how to redirect the ways I need to redirect. Thanks for everyones help. I am now figuring out how I am going to setup my on foot priest. I like the idea of making him flying. I figure with flying I could keep him out of harms way fairly effective. If I'm going for magic domination will it be nessessary to even have a scroll caddy?
Alright, the main list has been updated. I changed the on foot priest to a lvl 2 with the cloak. i removed the champ from the TG, also changed the amount of terradons. I left the cohort in the list as I haven't practiced setting up the charge reaction with skrimishers. I will practice that on my own. Forgot to add spears on the list, but no worries the points are factored in.
