I am going on memory here, but I know all the points are correct to add up to I think, 2247. Please advise. And keep in mind, I do not have enough Terradons to form a unit. I have two now, and am working on getting the third and fourth, but I will not have them in time for the tourney this weekend. This is my first tourney playing the Lizardmen, and I am wanting to begin the tweaking process for a big tournament in September. I think this list is a good starting point, and am wanting to see how it works. Any comments would be appreciated. I do have some areas I can adjust on, and just wondering if I need to, or if I need to just leave it the way it is. Thanks, (oh and strategy and setup ideas are always helpful too). Sure its great if I ever miscast, but if I don't its 45 points that could be used elsewhere. Of course I feel the same about dispel scrolls, then hate it when I don't have them, but then I get 2 of those for 50 points. Also, I wander about the wisdom of the Blade of the Hornet with the Revered Guardian, since if there is a challenge issued, he is locked in, and the purpose of the blade goes away. I would rather have it with a Scar-Vet with the Sauruses, but I do not have a Scar-Vet on foot yet. Anyway, thanks for any comments. John
You might want to consider giving the priest an Engine of the Gods. The thing rocks! You can drop a unit of Saurus warriors to get the required points.
I do want to do that eventually, at the moment though I just have the one steg, and I modeled it as a chief with the two blowpipes. I will need to get another one to do what you suggest, and I would probably just not use the chief, since I like lots of infantry. Thanks for the suggestions.
I would personally drop focus of mystery and take Soul of Stone instead. Seeing as now the slann is no longer immune to miscasts I would try and protect him from it as much as possible. Same reasoning goes for the cupped hands. If you have enough points you might choose to take the plaque of tepoc for that extra spell.
I do like that idea, and am changing accordingly. Substituting the Focus of Mystery for the Soul of Stone 0 point Change. Adding the Plaque of Tepok to Slann Removing the Blade of the Hornet from Revered Guardian Adding Venon of the Firefly Frog to Revered Guardian Net change in points to list is 0 I cannot get the points for the 2 extra TG, however, since I am using ranks of 6 wide, it wouldn't work for me anyway. I have 2 full ranks which should be plenty. Originally I wanted to use 20, which did give me 3 ranks, however, they are expensive, and in order to take the very cool looking Saurus Oldblood on cold one model, I had to sacrifice (even though I am using him as a Scar-Vet. So tomorrow is the tourney, and I will try to post a report of my three games. I know of at least one other Lizardman player that will likely be there, not sure of any more. Hopefully the game will help me tweak my list even further, and who knows, by the big tournament in September, it may be radically different. Thanks for the help. John
Tourney rundown, at least for my part.... Game one, I faced a fairly average Vampire Counts army, and got creamed!!! I definitely need something on my Slann's Temple Guard unit that handles fear!!!!!! On the plus side, my Scar Vet and his Cold One Riders handled themselves quite well. Game two, I faced off against a High Elf player, who despite hitting my Steg several times with his bolt throwers failed to do ANY wounds to it, or to the Chief!!!! yes, he hit the chief on the first shot, rolled a ONE to wound!!!! Again, the Scar Vet, and COR performed beautifully. Game three, I faced Ogre Kingdoms....I handily won a major victory there. I think I placed fourth or fifth out of about 16, and had a blast! Oh, and Cupped Hands! My first spell of EVERY game miscast, and I shuffled that off to the other wizards. IN game one, he took a Strength 2 hit, and lost a magic level. Same result against the High Elves. Game three, it was a strength 2 hit, and I got to continue the magic phase, but nothing really happened to the Ogre Kingdoms guy until his own magic phase, where the ground swallowed him alive with his own miscast, so I definitely like that magic item. I am thinking the fear causing totem may have to go on my Slann in future though, since that was what killed him and his unit in 2 out of three games. However, in three games with my Lizzies I am now 2 1 and 0, I think thats right, 2 wins 1 loss, no draws. John
Not bad for a first try! So, just a comment on that whole vampire counts/fear issue: A unit of temple guards that is joined by a slann becomes stubborn and immune to psychology which effectively means that they are immune to fear and terror and therefore do not break automatically when beaten in combat by a fear causing enemy that outnumbers you. So fear should not have effected you in any way and you defeinitely do not need the totem of prophecy. As regards the cupped hands, I think it is a must with the slann since you really don't want him blowing his head off in the first turn!
Wow! I didn't realize that! Will definitely remember, would have made things go a bit differently in two games!
So, I think I have learned a lesson today, know one's army very very well!!!! I can't believe I forgot that about the psychology!!! That first game would have gone very very different, and I would have had a much better victory in the last game than I did. Which means I could have placed maybe, third! UGH! oh well, not the first time I have forgotten something important, least I remembered the cupped hands in every game, and my dispel scroll, and my other Magic Items.... Though my burning blade got destroyed by a High Elf spell in the second game, didn't much matter though. Elves are sooo crunchy.
These things happen mate! Especially if you have just started playing LM. More often than not it is not knowing well my opponents rules that messes up my game sometimes. In fact, I'm always asking about my opponents' special rules and double checking with their army book. It can be a pain sometimes but at least I ensure that the rules are being followed Do you have another tourny planned for anytime soon?
There is one close by coming up in June, but not sure I can make that one. My next definite tourney date is September 13-14, a two day, five battle tournament, with lots of prize support. I plan on getting in lots of practice between now and then, and tweaking my army to the best possible extent. I do believe a Lizardman Army won yesterday. His army had little or no magic in it, and was led by a Oldblood on a Carnosaur. However, I like the magic phase, and like the Slann, so I will just have to play with it, and see what I like best, and what works best. To my surprise there was only one daemon player yesterday, and 2 Vampire Counts, neither did well.
