TOW 2250 MOAB Event List

    Really messing around with a lot of list ideas here (as you can see this is list #8). Event is 2250, no restrictions (but I am trying to keep to the rule of 3 as a personal choice so I can just be used to it for other events)

    Some decisions- Went with Ogre Blade on the Old Blood over Blade of Revered Tzuki. I think I would go with the revered blade at 2k, as its generally more useful in the event you charge heavy infantry, regular infantry etc. But at 2250 I feel there will be Dragons. Unavoidable. And as such the Ogre Blade just seems better over all with the multi-wound and higher S.

    For the Chief, wanted to just make him a static combat res machine. I see charmed shield alot for the one time 5+ ward, but chose enchanted shield here. Idea is that I get an all the time 6+ against great weapons with that.

    Original lists had no TG but a Giant Saurus block and then Ethereal on the Slann, but it was hard to get an Old Blood, BSB slann and Priest on Ancient Steg with a EotG for a double EotG list. Basically would have to go to scar vet or lose the BSB, and wasn't happy with either at this points level. So Instead dropped a special (was messing with Krox or Terras) and added the TG.

    For the TG, Rampaging banner to make charges and then PoT and Charmed Shield on the Champion- Essentially Make him an old blood for a turn of challenges.

    With the TG I now could take other disciplines. While Soul of Stone is my usual backup go to, Becalming seemed nice just for the extra 3" of dispel. The added dice is a nice bonus.

    Another list I am considering.
    If I can get the skinks painted, I may swap out the jungle swarms. I could also drop in 20 blowpipe skinks. I know javs are better, but its what I have.

    Uses the Terrabombing tactic in the list.

    I think the thing I need to talk about is the scar vet. Idea was a guy who would just clear out screens and be combat res where I need it. Venom of the Firefly frog is nice for the poison. Potion of speed because why not. Really make sure I can fight with him.

    Okay 3 lists, so I'll just give some general thoughts

    -Potions are drunk in the command phase of your turn. So you need to basically be certain you will get into combat and not be charged. In other words, something like the Potion of Toughness of a saurus champion I think is a waste, anything you might want to use it on will likely charge him first.

    - I like additional hand weapons better than cav spears on heros on stegadons. If you are charging with a stegadon, odds are you are going to be fine in combat anyway. Additional hand weapon gets that lovely poison too.

    - 4 kroxigors avoids a panic test when 1 dies from shooting

    - Horned ones without cav, keep in mind it becomes a viable shooting target. 2 wounds and no special save (and no -1 from skirmishing) it will probably die from the most mediocre archer block.

    - I love Ethereral on Battle Magic slann, they actually become decent warriors with hammerhands.

    - Earthing rod is garbage imo

    - I don't like cav spears on Saurus characters. st 5 to st6 is not always useful, and you only get it if you charge. Then (unless you've charged) you lose the -1 AP that you would have gotten with your obsidian blade. I think the obsidian blade is actually the better choice.

    - I agree Ogre Blade is the choice here

    - I love spears on my Saurus

    Earthing rod was because I had 5 points and seemed better to keep the priest alive on a bad roll than just one more skink.

    Understand about the potions. On the TG don't mind as much because the Banner, hopefully I'm making some charges and not just receiving.

    Horned ones can join infantry units still, but fair point overall

    A few follow ups

    -why spear saurus
    -do you give anything else to your Ethereal battlemage slann. Scrolls or grubs?

    With the additional hand weapons, would I still get to chose to use an Enchanted Shield (if I didn't use the additional hand weapon that turn)

    True on horned ones and infantry units if thats your play. You lose what makes them so great which is skirmish (and their massive movement). I need to look up the rules for leaving units, maybe its viable to be in a block for one turn?

    Spears are great because of the extra attacks you get in the back rank. Saurus so rarely charge anyway, haha.

    You can use your sheild for shooting. Maybe the charmed shield ends up better. But you already have the 4+ save with the stegadon. Yeah, up to you. Depends how much shooting and magic weapons you end up facing. If you're committed to the enchanted sheild, nothing wrong with cav spear for sure.

    No I generally don't give my ethereal battlemage anything else, he's already expensive. Charging flanks for disrupt is their speciality, especially as you are unlikely to get any magic weapons hitting you back, except for chaos. They won't break a unit solo but once combat is all on, the benefits of fireball and the vortex start to get limited.

    Earthing Rod - sorry I mixed up with Wand of Jet. I'd prefer an extra skink for 5 points but sure why not take it.

    One more blowpipes are so bad I'd barely take them. I know you're restricted by your models and WYSIWYG.

    PS. I was just rethinking potion of toughness. I could you could refuse to issue any challange or not accept if its not your turn. Rely on FBIGO or something to last a turn. Then drink and challange. Assuming you are fighting a monster or something they'd have to accept. Not as bad as I first thought. Especially TS as you can stubborn and FBIGO, so ensure you GG.

    Well this stinks. Tried looking at 4 krox. Not sure where I could bleed 9 points from. I have the absolute min for core (563/562 required). I'd have to either lose BSB on the chief, loose capability on the old blood, or lose a unit. Or swap core around to a min core with TG and lose the Ethereal BM slann.

    With the spears on saurus do you lose the 2 attacks that come standard and the -1AP from obsidian blades? If so is the main benefit you get just extra attacks on your turn of combat from whoever didn’t die

    You still get 2 attacks in the front rank. You only get 1 attack with the second rank. Yes you do lose the -1ap from obsidian blades

    You need to be in base contact to get more than 1 attack. https://tow.whfb.app/the-combat-phase/how-many-attacks, by definition supporting attacks are not in base contact.

    For me that swings it marginally towards saving points, and just sticking with Obsidian Blades, although I am running just a minimally small unit at present so would get less benefit from spears.

    I think spears can get better in larger (wider) formations, but the -1AP is just so critical IMO with the amount of 3+ save units out there
