Hi guys, Working on Lizardmen...I have no idea why the bug bit me to do so, but it did - outta the blue! I'm working on a scar vet on carnosaur and some Saurus right now. I also own a Stegadon model from a while back so I have a bit of a jump on the purchasing Some of the thinking going into my list: - I want to run a scar vet on carnosaur because he looks awesome and it just feels fluffy to have a killer dinosaur in the list. That said, I recognize he's not considered very competitive. - I want to include an Ancient Stegadon because I have one (blow pipes?) - I like Saurus warriors better than Skinks - I included a Slann mage priest because I get the feeling it's a mistake not to use one lol My goal is 2250 which is the points level used at the biggest local tourney. I feel like I ran out of points really fast and am missing some key stuff like chameleon skinks vs warmachines for example. Are my saurus/tg blocks too big? I wanted another stegadon lol - reckon THAT's not gonna happen Lords Slann Mage Priest Wandering Deliberations Heroes Scar Vet Pirahna Blade Shield Light Armor BSB Carnosaur Loping Stride Bloodroar Core 20 x Temple Guard Musician Standard Razor Standard 25 x Saurus Warriors Musician Standard Bearer Hand Weapon Shield 25 x Saurus Warriors Musician Standard Bearer Hand Weapon Shield Special Bastiladon Solar Engine Ripperdactyle Riders Rare Ancient Stegadon Unstoppable Stampede Sharpened Horns total 2220 so far...
I'm a little new to doing it right as well but I'll tell ya what they told me that I notice in your army too. You need redirectors. Skink skirmishers are perfect for that. Just tiny units of 10. I realise you said you dont want skinks as much as Saurus but fx 2 units of 10 is just a few points and gives you all the redirection you need. People seem to question the carno here as well on one side and others swear by using them (correctly). That's probably more something another could tell you more about.
Thanks Dorgicus! I have to learn what redirectors/direction means a bit better. I vaguely grasp it, but it's a key element of the game and I need to understand it better. Meanwhile this was the tweak I made to my list (before I saw your tip): Slann Mage Priest 1 BSB 1 Wandering Deliberations 1 Heroes Scar Vet 1 Charmed Shield 1 Talisman of Endurance 1 Carnosaur 1 Loping Stride 1 Bloodroar 1 Core Saurus Warriors 24 Musician 1 Standard Bearer 1 Hand Weapon 24 Shield 24 Saurus Warriors 24 Musician 1 Standard Bearer 1 Hand Weapon 24 Shield 24 Special Temple Guard 20 Musician 1 Standard 1 Bastiladon 1 Solar Engine 1 Rare Ancient Stegadon 1 Sharpened Horns 1 Ancient Stegadon 1 Sharpened Horns 1 Total 2248 points
I'm not sure you need 3 combat blocks. What's really eating your points is your desire to run 2x 24 saurus and 20 TG. Your slann is naked, and while a nakes slann is better than no slann - you really want soul of stone to protect your TG since you have no skinks to hide him in. Also you want an obsidian amulet or the likes to protect him further vs. nasty enemy magic, and your TG too. I'd sell one unit of saurus warrior to get : 2 x 10 skink skirmishers or cohorts (your choice really, i'd go with skirmishers). I pref Jav's, but you can go BP if you really feel like it. A Dispel scroll on the slann. Soul of stone on the slann. An obsidian amulet on the slann. and one unit of 6 chamo's. (they won't be enough but they will bring some protection). Now if my math is right you have 23 points left - i'd say Champion for the templeguard since some armies can force you to accept their challenges and your slann is allergic. That actually leaves room for 1 more chamo skink, or whatever you'd rather like. With a 7th Chamo, we're at 2250 sharp - if my math is right (which it probably isn't). With cohorts you have 40 points spare.
Thanks Vamp! This is great feedback. Over on warseer, it was suggested that I don't really need to take the Bastilodon because he will be using up power dice that my Slaan will want for his own spells. Thoughts?
Realistically you can throw 1 power dice at the Beam of Chotek and have it go off 66% of the time and save the rest for your slann spells. For what it gets you, it seems worth it to me.
Spent some time on Army Builder trying to get this all to fit - I'm trying to keep the Saurus and TG units 6 wide (I hear that's the thing to do) - Couldn't seem to squeeze in Cham Skinks - Ended up having to drop the Bastil - needed the points. was having trouble fulfilling my core properly. 2250 Pts - Lizardmen Roster Slann Mage-Priest . . 1 Slann Mage-Priest (Battle Standard Bearer), . . . . 1 Dispel Scroll . . . . 1 Obsidian Lodestone . . . . 1 Ironcurse Icon . . . . 1 Soul of Stone . . . . 1 The Becalming Cogitation . . . . 1 Wandering Deliberations Saurus Scar-Veteran . . 1 Saurus Scar-Veteran, . . . . 1 Carnosaur . . . . 1 Charmed Shield . . . . 1 Talisman of Endurance . . . . 1 The Other Trickster's Shard Saurus Warriors . . 31 Saurus Warriors, . . . . 1 Spawn Leader Skink Skirmishers . . 11 Skink Skirmishers, . . . . 1 Patrol Leader Skink Skirmishers . . 11 Skink Skirmishers, . . . . 1 Patrol Leader Temple Guard ( . . 19 Temple Guard, . . . . 1 Revered Guardian Ancient Stegadon . . 1 Ancient Stegadon, . . . . 5 Skink Crew Ancient Stegadon . . 1 Ancient Stegadon, . . . . 5 Skink Crew Total Roster Cost: 2248
I totally forgot about core requirement in my previous reply. However now you're sitting in a new problem - no real banners. No units carrying banners for Blood and glory - while you have 2 very eligible units. I'd probably scrape some SW off and convert them into a FC instead of only a Spawn leader since a musician is handy as well. You could actually... Scrape 2 SW off of your Saurus unit - this leaves an odd number (29) but for the points you can get, a musician and standard bearer. You can then scrape off 2 Skinks, 1 from each unit. You can now afford a standard for the TG. THEN you can drop the Dispel scroll (even though it rocks) and get Harmonic convergence, + a dispel scroll instead of becalming cogitation - this will on average provide you with an extra cast and dispel dice each full turn. This requires you to get a channeling staff though (for the 5-6 roll to get an extra PD or DD) i think it would be worthwhile though. since after that (if you still follow?) you can afford a musician for your TG as well. so %2 Saurus warriors 2 Skinks 1 Dispel scroll 1 Becalming + FC in the saurus warriors. FC in the templeguard. 1 Harmonic covergence. 1 Channeling staff. Just a suggestion - i like the new list a lot. It's just those banners CAN come in handy, and the Channeling staff combo will give you a slann kitted for both offense AND defense instead of pimping him for defensive magic - I still like him with the setup you had changed him to though - it just costs you in the FC department. Then again, you could probably just scrape the saurus down to 24 - earn the points here, and these things anyways, without losing becalming, but still losing the dispel scroll, and still have some leftovers.
This is great feedback thanks, good point about the banners! Once I get AB working on my home PC (license issues) I will reconfig the list a bit. I actually meant to include a musician with the SW so I might have messed up.
I'm almost wondering if my list wasn't copying right. In any case, here it is with FCs on the units. I had to take most options for skins/SW to keep it in the required core %. I think I don't know how to output the list from AB properly for forum posting lol 2250 Pts - Lizardmen Roster Slann Mage-Priest (1#, ) . . 1 Slann Mage-Priest (Battle Standard Bearer), (Cold Blooded; General; Hand Weapon; Battle Standard Bearer) . . . . 1 Channeling Staff . . . . 1 Obsidian Lodestone . . . . 1 Soul of Stone . . . . 1 The Harmonic Convergence . . . . 1 Wandering Deliberations Saurus Scar-Veteran (1#,) . . 1 Saurus Scar-Veteran, (Cold Blooded; Predatory Figther; Hand Weapon; Halberd; Light Armour; Scaly Skin) . . . . 1 Carnosaur (Bloodroar; Cold Blooded; Causes Terror; Loping Stride; Scaly Skin; Thunder Stomp) . . . . 1 Charmed Shield . . . . 1 Talisman of Endurance . . . . 1 The Other Trickster's Shard Saurus Warriors (32#, ) . . 31 Saurus Warriors, (Cold Blooded; Musician Mus; Standard Bearer Std; Predatory Figther; Hand Weapon; Shield; Scaly Skin) . . . . 1 Spawn Leader (Cold Blooded; Predatory Figther; Hand Weapon; Shield; Scaly Skin) Skink Skirmishers (12#, ) . . 11 Skink Skirmishers, (Cold Blooded; Hand Weapon; Lustrian Javelin & Shield; Aquatic; Scaly Skin; Skirmishers) . . . . 1 Patrol Leader (Cold Blooded; Hand Weapon; Lustrian Javelin & Shield; Aquatic; Scaly Skin; Skirmishers) Skink Skirmishers (12#, ) . . 11 Skink Skirmishers, (Cold Blooded; Hand Weapon; Lustrian Javelin & Shield; Aquatic; Scaly Skin; Skirmishers) . . . . 1 Patrol Leader (Cold Blooded; Hand Weapon; Lustrian Javelin & Shield; Aquatic; Scaly Skin; Skirmishers) Temple Guard (20#, ) . . 19 Temple Guard, (Cold Blooded; Guardians; Sacred Duty; Musician Mus; Standard Bearer Std; Predatory Figther; Hand Weapon; Halberd; Light Armour; Shield; Scaly Skin) . . . . 1 Revered Guardian (Cold Blooded; Hand Weapon; Halberd; Guardians; Predatory Figther; Sacred Duty; Light Armour; Shield; Scaly Skin) Ancient Stegadon . . 1 Ancient Stegadon, (Cold Blooded; Howdah Crew; 2 Giant Blowpipes; Sharpened Horns; Causes Terror; Immune to Psychology; Large Target; Scaly Skin; Stubborn; Thunder Stomp) . . . . 5 Skink Crew (Cold Blooded; Hand Weapon; Lustrian Javelin; Aquatic; Scaly Skin) Ancient Stegadon . . 1 Ancient Stegadon, (Cold Blooded; Howdah Crew; 2 Giant Blowpipes; Sharpened Horns; Causes Terror; Immune to Psychology; Large Target; Scaly Skin; Stubborn; Thunder Stomp) . . . . 5 Skink Crew (Cold Blooded; Hand Weapon; Lustrian Javelin; Aquatic; Scaly Skin) Total Roster Cost: 2248
Spawn leaders are there to absorb challenges. or give them. Won't find a better way to keep a tooled up something from smashing your core.
