Howdy y'all, just a naive newbie here hoping for some opinions on this list which i intend to field against my VC using friend. Lord: Slann Mage Priest (275) - Focus Of Mastery (Lore of Light) - Focused Rumination (50) - BSB (25) - Plaque of Dominion (50) - Diadem of Power (25) - 2 Dispel Scrolls (50) Heroes: Scar-Veteran (85) - light armour (5) - shield (3) - cold one mount (20) - burning blade of chotec (20) Skink Priest (65) - level 2 (35) - EoTG (290) - staff of sorcery (40) Core: 15 Saurus warriors (165) - command (30) - spears (15) 15 Saurus warriors (165) - command (30) - spears (15) 10 skink skirmishers (70) Spelcial: 14 Temple Guard (224) - command (35) - venom of the firefly frog (10) 5 Cold One Riders (175) - command (50) 5 Cold One Riders (175) - command (50) Total: 2247/2250pts Now for a quick question: will the plaque of dominion actually work on undead wizards ? I checked the rulebook and it says that units which are immune to psychology will automatically pass all panic, fear and terror tests but makes no mention of stupidity tests so ive included the plaque in the (possibly vain) hope that it can still work its funky magic on the undead . Be sure and let me know what you think. All suggestions and criticisms are welcome
The Plaque of Dominion is a really nice banner against VC's. Another great trick is getting the Becalming Cogitation on your Slann, it works miracles absolute miracles against the Vampires Give your Scar-Veteran the Enchanted Shield for a nice 0+ armour save. This way he should easily be able to take on a Vargulf and win . I would either get one block of Saurus and place the Scar-Vet in there (making the Saurus immune to the fear) or make sure that those saurus blocks get a lot bigger. If you lose combat once you'll be needing snake eyes if he outnumbers you and you can be fairly certain that his units will be bigger than yours Hope this helps
Totally forgot about the enchanted shield and you are right i think my saurus blocks do need to be bigger so they can stand against the zombie tides! So how about i lose one of the Cold One Rider units and use the points generated from that to take each saurus unit up to 20, pop the enchanted shield on me scar vet and have enough left for a unit of 3 terradon riders
Skeleton blocks normally come in what? 30's? That's what I normally get thrown at me, but still, the chances of losing a static combat to skeletons is fairly low. They will only ever see the additional points granted by outnumbering (+1) and their added ranks which will only ever go to 4. So usually they normally only have a 3 point advantage in static combat. Assume for a second that your units are wielding spears, 5 wide and all attack, that is 20 attacks (21 if champ is there). S4, T4, +5AS, you shouldn't really be losing too many saurus, if you are then you are having some very bad luck. However regardless of the stats, the longer you stay there the longer you run this risk of having some bad dice, so you need units like CoR to drive into the flanks of those blocks, cutting their rank bonus and crushing them. They harder they get hit the harder they crumble when it comes to undead break tests (literally lol - yes I know, break as in break, bad joke, just sat a 2 and a half hour english exam, leave me alone) Having more saurus doesn't stop them from overruning you because of the fear, it just means that you have to kill less to prevent that from happeneing, that in itself is something that can be easily prevented by VC's using their fun little abilities to top up their numbers, something that is reliant on dice more than strategy. Try not to play to the strengths of the VC army, which in this case, is static combat. Instead command the flow of battle! I advise keeping your list as it is instead of switching CoR's for 20 man squads. Hope this helps -Eagle-
Good point. As long as the are CoR doing their job properly then i shouldnt need to worry about bolstering the numbers of the saurus so i think i will keep the list the way it is for now. Still it would have been fun to use the terries to dump a load of rocks onto some unsuspecting necromancer. Ive always held that a unit that survives the terries dumping rocks on its head should be prone to stupidity for the rest of the game due to severe head trauma
Enchanted Shield plus Burning blade is massive hate draft against varghulfs. Staff of sorcery is a strange choice to me, but I suppose against all those one dice invocations it could be good. I would actually take razordons against the undead, since they have a lot of random trash to pew, and you have to kill them all anyway so you might as well get shooting. Plus, unlike other artillery razordons cause fear.
I would change the Banner for Cognitation. Dropping 6's on his lord is so much more usefull than making him stupid. As most of his casters will be near his lord they will all have Ld10 which makes it hard to fail a stupidity test. I would choose either The Dispell Scrolls or Diadem. Or 1 Scroll + Diadem + Cupped Hands.. If you go magic take something to protect your Slann who is your General, Battle Standerd Bearer, in the middle of your battle line and your strongest unit. A simple miscast can either destroy half your TG unit or destroy your general. So I would advice to bring this item along... Why bring staff of sorcery ? Waisting 40pts to just be equal with his +1 to cast ? When I play vs VC I almost never dispell their incantations. I focus on the bigger spells like VanHells Dance and Wind of The Undead. And which such bigg spells the +1 to dispell will have very limited effect for its 40 points. I would prefer to have the wardrums on my EoTG so it can still march (which is awesome on a monster) along my battle line to use B Alignment where it is needed to weaken or destroy his units. Could I also advice to bring the Huanchi Banner ? Its a waste of such a great banner for your cold ones. I would even drop some of its command just to take the banner. Would prefer the +D6" over +1 attack you get of the champ. To me 15 saurus are ok. Usually I take 12 saurus 6x2 put them along my TG and use the Lore of Light spell to make my units withing 12" ItP. When Zombies or skeletons charge my saurus almost never one dies. Than suddenly 10 zombies or 8 skellies die. In 2 turns my saurus clean up any unit the VC sends at me except Grave Guard with their regen banner. Which I use my own TG with static +5 combat res and blast his units away with either EoTG or the 6th Light spell. Lore of Light gives you so much options that the VC guy won't know what to dispell. And by the time he gets to your unit, one of your CoR units will have smashed one of his which contains a character for sure. Just to give you some idea's. I got lots of VC experience. Almost half of the players I face play VC.
Your didn't Alesh.. It can be any magic item. Also The banner doesn't work.. Undead are immune to Psych..Stupidity is a psych. Like Gannon said and probably most think.. Get the Cupped Hands.. You will miscast.. don't be afraid to target his wizards with it.. Also i'd consider the Cube of Darkness.. a shot at putting down a whole VC magic phase is what you need. Watch out for his Wight models and Grave Guards.. Killing Blow is a small percentage.. but it is there.. and it will get you.
you need to get rif of your point values. GW laws dont allow it. advice wise i would say...... get some salamanders. while the auto-panic won't work(immune to psych), breath templates destroy horde armies.
