Hey everyone. I'm going to be playing a game this weekend against a friend of mine and his orc army. I've been getting bored with my slann, so this is my first time playing an oldblood on carno in 8th edition (in fact, I didn't play much in 7th edition, so the last time may have been in 6th!) I don't want to tailor my list too much, but I do expect to face a warboss on wyvern, a horde of black orcs, and a couple war machines. Saurus Oldblood: Glittering Scales; Talisman of Preservation; great weapon; Carnosaur (Loping Stride; Bloodroar) Skink Priest: Dispel Scroll, level 2, Lore of Heavens Saurus Scar-Veteran: cold one, Armour of Destiny; great weapon; Battle Standard Bearer (goes with the saurus) 30 Saurus Warriors: musician; standard bearer 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers 11 Skinks: standard bearer • 1 Kroxigor 7 Kroxigor: Kroxigor Ancient 2x 7 Chameleon Skinks Bastiladon: Solar Engine 1 Salamander Hunting Pack: additional Skink Handler Ancient Stegadon: Sharpened horns somwhere close to 2,400 points Obviously this list wants to get up in the opponent's face and eat some greenskins. Skinks and bastiladon should be able to clear his chaff so I can set up the combats I want. My main worry is war machines. I'll have iceshard blizzard and the 2 units of chamo's, but I wonder if I should also have more target saturation. I could take out the bastiladon and a unit of chameleons or the salamander to get another ancient steg, but I thought the extra spell would come in handy. Also the salamander will be good for thinning out the black orcs before combat. I'm also curious in people's thoughts on a CoC unit to escort the carno. This won't protect against rock lobbas, but it occurs to me now that doom divers would make mince meat of a carnosaur. I would probably have to make similar sacrifices to include CoC.
Regardless of how you configure it the Carnosaur is always going to be a bit of a glass cannon. I would think about getting a 2nd Skink Priest and maybe going for some Wyssan's spamming. In terms of pure competitiveness I think a Carno is better spent in your hero allotment than the lord one. It looks like a fun list to me though, so try it out and see how you like it.
