I decided to field 2 scar vets, and upgrade the scroll to the cube of darkness .

I dropped 2 salamanders, and 2 saurus from each block.

I am wondering how to build my scar vets now... Do I need them to assassinate characters, kill monsters, hunt warmachines or boost my saurus block killing power. Basically, what role should thye fill given the rest of my army?

Think the Scar-Vet decision is excellent, they are possibly the best and most cost-effective hero choices of all the races.

I would say that the way you kit them differs from which lore you take.

With Lore of Light you should be relying on saurus to win you the game, and adding high-str foot scar-vets in the units can really help in dealing with hard-to-kill monsters/cavalry etc..

With Lore of Life a Cold One, Armor of Destiny/Fortune and Great Weapon can make them almost unkillable str 7 roadblocks.

They're solid either way, personally I always like to include atleast one mounted GW+Armor of Destiny as the toughness and flexibilty helps you control the battlefield.

That being said I would definately put your army in the Lore of Life category, it really makes the TG strong and works well with your Ancient steg. Add two mounted Scar-Vets with GWs and Armor of Destiny/Fortune and you are golden. Only real weakness is Dweller's and Pit of Shades, but short of running a solo Slann you are prepared as well as you can be for that ..
